View Full Version : HTL5120/12 and automatic turn-off function

Hi Support,

Is it possible to deactivate the automatic turn-off function?
Indeed, the soundbar is turning off after 30 minutes if no interaction hs been made by the user.

But in most of the cases, when you're watching a movie or television, you don't want the sound (as well as the images if the soundbar is the HDMI hub in your installation) to be cut off in the middle of a dialog or music!!

I understand that Philips does want to save the planet and allow us saving money on energy wastes... but this automatic turn-off function is absolutely weird and non-sense for a home-cinema installation!

Thanks in advance for your answer,

Someone from Philips Care just answered me through twitter that this could be linked to the way I plugged all elements together (as it is supposed to switch off if no video nor audio is sent to the soundbar or if no button is pressed for hald an hour - so it is just like the soundbar doesn't detect it receives video from the ADSL TV box) but the way it is set up should work I believe.
I have My TV HDMI in connected to the soundbar HDMI out and then a blu ray player and ADSL TV box both connected through HDMI in 1 and HDMI in 2 on the soundbar.
When watching TV with the ADSL TV box, it switches off after 30 minutes if I don't pres any button, which is annoying.

I might look at my conenctions tonight to see if I can arrange it other way (TV box to TV, then the sound bar to the TV box for example) but I don't see the point why it would behave otherwise with that configuration...

If someone experienced something similar with his installation, I'm ready to receive advices ;)

Well, I just wanted to make an update on that.

I didn't modify any of my connection setting finally (as a reminder, both my Blu Ray player and my ADSL TV box are plugged to the soundbar through HDMI 1 and 2 only and my soundbar is plugged to my TV through HDMI (HDMI Arc on the soundbar, "classic" HDMI in on my TV) but my problem disappeared.

Indeed, it did not disappear all by itself but because I noticed that there was kind of a connection issue with the HDMI cable plugged with the Blu Ray Player (kind of a contact failing resulting in displaying video or failing in doing it randomly). I changed the cable and since then no more problem.

So, if anyhow, you have the automatic switch off that's aunching even if your device is actually connected to the soundbar and playing, verify all elements connected because if there's any issue with one element connected with the soundbar it can lead to the automatic switch off of the soundbar, even while it is receiving video or audio from another device.

Hope this message could help in the future some other unlucky user having the same issue as me.

Glad I found this post as I was having exactly the same problem as you and it also turned out to be the HDMI cable I was using. I switched with a new cable and it fixed the issue.

Thanks for posting this update.
