I buy Philips 40PFL5507 led tv and external hard disc.
I have some 3D sbs video files in mkv that he plays automatic, but some 3D sbs mkv files I must add manually side by side. I don't find difference between those files.
How to enable all mkv 3d sbs files to play automatic?

I'm also very interested in understanding that.

Could you try to rename first file ?
Say you name it "file1.mkv", and check if autodetection is still ok ?

I have searched on the web, and for another brand the filename makes the difference. It depends if it contains "half-sbs".

Have you tried with an external player as well by the way ? With what result ?
I never had autodetection using xbmc (Eden) on the few files I have (to my recall).

I extract small clip from MKV with mkvmerge for you to download.
Also, I play again this little video clip that I uploaded of a few seconds on my TV to make sure it works and also the TV automatically switches to 3D.
And when I convert dts with Popcorn MKV AudioConverter to Ac3 (I don't touch video file) TV still automatically switches to 3D.

This is the file:

I didn't try to another player like bluray player or PS3, only on Philips 40PFL5507 media player because I use external hard disc.

Thanks. I must say I didn't invest time into this earlier.
But I got it well.
I think we can share with everyone that you tried with this tool
http://www.videohelp.com/tools/PopCorn-MKV-AudioConverter

For those interested, I can add that
http://www.videohelp.com/tools/MKVExtractGUI-2
as well as
http://www.videohelp.com/tools/mkvtoolnix
is worth having a look at for dealing with Mkvs smoothly.

About 3D auto-detection while using external player, I tend to think that it is rarely doable.
As far as I got it, on HDMI, it is via EDID information that external module should declare that the video is in 3D format. So players like XBMC, VLC (or else), don't usually have the capacity to have alter Edid information (that are dealt by the video card).
Maybe on a ps3, the player can also alter Edid. But not on a HTPC (PC player running a player) because there is no API for editing Edid (to my knowledge).
Maybe someone is able to confirm what I have just written here.

Maybe the brand new XBMC released version will embed a way to trigger 3D. I promise to edit this post !

Hi, if you're still interested, the 3d flag is in the encode of the video file. This setting is needed for 3d auto detection: 'frame-packing 3' for SBS and 'frame-packing 4' for top/bottom.

The problem with auto 3d mode is that it doesn't use the correct mode when using side by side reverse mode, when you swith appropriate header. (MultiView_Layout) It always shows the regular side by side. My software is 150.87 and television is 42PFL6687. Maybe other people suffer from this problem too.
