Bought the BDP9700 last tuesday. One word: A-MA-ZING !!
Just a question, to be sure...

In the manual it says:
"SACD only DSD-output available through HDMI-output (AV-receiver)"

I think this means you cannot get surround sound from a SACD disk to the surround analog RCA connections, right? That's oké for me, I just need analog RCA stereo. Would anyone confirm following?

Will it:
- Output stereo SACD towards the analog stereo RCA connection?
- Output DSD-5.1 SACD downmixed towards the analog stereo RCA connection?

To be honest, I bought the BDP9700 because it -also- does SACD's, I really need it to be able to play all SACD's to my -regular- stereo RCA-connector amplifier...

Fingers crossed... Anyone?

I also bought the 9700 for audio purposes only and need both SACD to analog and DSD trough HDMI for different amplifiers.

So far I managed to get very good SACD audio to the RCA outs, but failed to get any DSD output to any of the HDMI connectors.

In order to get native DSD output into the RCA connectors I had to switch audio on the HDMI Main to none, and set the HDMI AVR to bitstream. This will invoke the DSD native (so without PCM conversion in the middle) D/A conversion and provided me with audio quality above expectation. Unfortunately I did not get the DSD through HDMI working yet, which is supposed to run simulateaously with the analog (Direct DSD) output.

I will be chatting to the philips support dpeople today.!

Excellent, Willem, thank you for your elaborate answer! I'm sure it will help here, can't wait to get my first SACD's and feed the MagnePan speakers what they deserve.

Sorry I won't be able to help you with your issue, had to read it twice just to understand it, and I don't have an AVR with HDMI-input... :p

I also could not manage to make DSD through HDMI working yet. I managed it
one time, but cannot reproduce it. So would be interesting to hear what
Philips will tell you - keep us informed.

Another issue that I see on SACDs is that none of my discs keep playing.
That means after one or two tracks I need to press >| to continue with the
next track - see my post here (http://www.supportforum.philips.com/en/showthread.php?11352-Playing-SACDs-on-a-9700) - anyway - needless to say that none of the Philips guys respond

Hi Gerhard, that 's a real bummer, would drive me  too, if disks would just stop playing... Might this be more than a firmware-issue? Maybe it 's just broken, a repairable defect, did you bring it in to have it serviced? The problem seems reproducible, right? So you can show them it doesn't function as it should! Good luck with this-one, keep the thread alive ;)

All,

Update:

The support team has logged a case for all SACD issues with this machine (9700) and need to investigate.

I too had some stops during SACD playback. It seems to halt at every track. This must be a mistake somewhere in the firmware. !
