Dear Philips, dear all,

I made a list of observed bugs, missing features, and needed clarifications for the 2010 TV series firmware (TV550R1).

@Philips
Please take a deep look at this list. This could be a good place to gather some information in a ordered way. And please state some answers to the clarification part!

@All
If you found further bugs, please state a "one line description", cause I'd like to update the list regularily.

Clarifications:
IP EPG and Ziggo: Ziggo says IP-EPG should work in parallel with DVB-EPG. Why does it not work?
IP-EPG for Ziggo users will be enabled in due time. This must be programmed on the portals, therefore can take some time to be implemented.
=> 12.12.2011: IP-EPG is now working for DVB-C in the Netherlands
How is the status of EPG over DVB-T in countries such as Greece? Why do restrictions exist?
Due to some TV limitations (hardware and software) this will not be implemented.
Does DTS and/or DD passthrough work with this setup?: BDP->HDMI->TV->SPDIF->HTS
DTS passthrough will NOT work, it is only working for DD. Reason is that these TVs are not supporting DTS. When a source with DTS is applied, the source will be forced to output PCM according the EDID content. So PCM will be available on the S/PDIF outpot.
Solution is to connect the source (like Blu-ray or DVD player) directly to the HTS by HDMI or S/PDIF. Be aware that in this case the HTS must have the ability to delay the sound.
Does DTS and/or DD passthrough work with this setup?: BDP->HDMI->TV->HDMI-ARC->HTS
Same as answer 3. Additional advantage here is that also the Tuner audio will be available on the HTS.
Whats the maximum USB-HDD size supported by the TV series?
In theory, the maximum HDD size is 16 TB.
Which TV series support native 24p inputs (pulldown, which setup etc.)?
We do support 24p input on all series beginning at 3xxx (will be converted).
Now/Next EPG OSD (transparent layer during zapping): What's the reason why this feature is not implemented (anymore)?
There are several reasons, some of them are related to the law and/or certificates. We are currently investigating if this can be enabled again in due time (no promisses :)).
=>2.3.2012 WILL NOT COME (see http://www.supportforum.philips.com/en/showthread.php?4411-Poll-Now-next-box-when-zapping&p=27706&viewfull=1#post27706)
What is the customer supposed to do, if he/she still has sound drop issues? Will this be fixed by software or hardware only?
Most of the sound drops are solved since SW version 140.34 (and later), Any remaining issues will be tackled in the next SW version.
Features:

SRT subtitles are not supported
Due to TV limitations, this will not be supported in 2k10 (or older) sets.
switching between audio streams in media files is not working
if DTS is present in media files, complete video is not playable even if video coded is supported
status page (option button - status info) does not show frequency of input source (e.g. 24Hz, 50Hz, ...)
channel list: "hide encrypted channels" feature is missing
MultiView (Cinema 21:9): it is not possible to switch from MultiView to fullscreen
MultiView (Cinema 21:9): it is not possible to switch from TV directly to MultiView
Home menu isn't completely customizable (moving icons, see also: http://www.supportforum.philips.com/en/showthread.php?670-Re-arrange-TV-s-quot-home-quot-page-(user-interface).)
sleep timer isn't present via Green Button (it's deeply hidden inside the configuration menu)
There is no zoom setting to display TV broadcasts in 4:3 aspect ratio without stretching to 16:9
Better (read faster) RW / FF via DLNA and / or a resume function
Download/Update the channel list on usb stick and provide a software for easy editing on PC.
Support access to local web pages in local network without Philips proxy server
3D: add modi "Side by Side inverted" and "Top Bottom inverted" - such as in TV550R3
(energy saving mode should turn off the ambilight) => tbc, works on 58PFL9955
Update Opera with HBBTV 1.1.1 capabilities - such as in TV550R2/R3
USB HID support
Due to TV limitations, this will not be supported in 2k10 (or older) sets.
DTS support
Due to TV limitations, this will not be supported in 2k10 (or older) sets.
Add support for more open audio codecs: FLAC, Ogg-Vorbis, APE, etc.
Due to TV limitations, this will not be supported in 2k10 (or older) sets.
Allow analog stereo audio output on the SCART plugs, from any input source (internal - digital and analog tuners - and external)
Net TV PIP: support also external sources (such as HDMI)
add an option to make the volume of the headphones directly adjustable through the remote control (ie. by the volume button, not by a setting placed in some nested menu).
Net TV PIP: switch TV-Channels with P+/P- or |< and >|
Net TV PIP: please use "Auto Zoom" in PIP window
Circular menues - after the last entry the cursor should move automatically to the first one (see also: http://www.supportforum.philips.com/en/showthread.php?2223-Important-Bugs-which-need-to-be-fixed-in-2010-firmware-(TV550R1)&p=14492&viewfull=1#post14492)
IP-EPG: flip pages with P+/P- or |< and >| (see: http://www.supportforum.philips.com/en/showthread.php?2995-Channel-up-and-Channel-down-buttons-in-IP-EPG)
Adjustable automatic shut down time (see: http://www.supportforum.philips.com/en/showthread.php?3079-Feature-Req-Automatic-Sleep-timer)
Use unused blue button as source selector (see: http://www.supportforum.philips.com/en/showthread.php?2223-Important-Bugs-which-need-to-be-fixed-in-2010-firmware-(TV550R1)&p=17723&viewfull=1#post17723)
Separate SMART-PICTURE settings for every HDMI-INPUT (see: http://www.supportforum.philips.com/en/showthread.php?2223-Important-Bugs-which-need-to-be-fixed-in-2010-firmware-(TV550R1)&p=20287&viewfull=1#post20287)
Bugs:
USB content is not shown in alphabetical order (or add an option to sort differently via the option button menu - such as by name, by date, last modified, ...) => Workaround: http://www.supportforum.philips.com/en/showthread.php?2519-How-to-Show-Files-with-the-correct-sorting-via-USB
during visibility of volume OSD, one is not able to switch channels or doing something different by pressing a button
This is a limitation of the TV set (will not be changed).
DVB subtitles and volume OSD cannot be shown at the same time (tbc)
This is a limitation of the TV set (will not be changed).
teletext/IP-EPG is sometimes not working (nothing happens if one press teletext or IP-EPG menu entries)
Unfortunately we cannot reproduce this issue. We found sofar only one case where this is happening. If there are more, please report all issues to us (with the necessary info like SW version, model number, serial number, etc.). Updated: affects also IP-EPG, see: http://www.supportforum.philips.com/en/showthread.php?2223-Important-Bugs-which-need-to-be-fixed-in-2010-firmware-(TV550R1)&p=13713&viewfull=1#post13713
TV channel lists: sorting does always apply to the complete list
This is a limitation of the TV set (will not be changed).
IP-EPG/channel mapping is always based on the complete channel list - independed of the actual chosen list
This is a limitation of the TV set (will not be changed).
internal update mechanism is stuck at 140.27
On the auto-upgrade issue: there are sometimes reasons not to “push” SW via IP:
- Lateley we had an issue that a certain SW version would not load 100% (stopped at 80%). If we would rolll that out via IP, we would be bombarded with complaints!
- Sometimes a SW update is only meant for a specific country. Why then bother all other customers with it (e.g. Ziggo certification).
- Etc.
But don't get us wrong, We agree that such a feature, if present, should work flawlessly. We are very aware of this and are trying to improve in the near future.
MultiView (Cinema 21:9): translation error in German OSD, if one opens the menu to switch MultiView inputs ("Browse Menu" is shown)
This has been reported to our engineers. Depends on their priority list if this will be solved.
Teletext (Cinema 21:9): aspect ratio of tv stream on the left is wrong in Dual View mode
This is a limitation of the TV set (will not be changed).
Translation error: German "What's on" menu displays english weekday on the bottom left // with DVB-C no weekday is shown (see: http://www.supportforum.philips.com/en/showthread.php?2223-Important-Bugs-which-need-to-be-fixed-in-2010-firmware-(TV550R1)&p=18908&viewfull=1#post18908)
This has been reported to our engineers. Depends on their priority list if this will be solved.
Some TV sets restart (e.g. 40pfl8605) when you switch off the TV while watching video via DLNA or USB
Unfortunately we cannot reproduce this issue. We found sofar only one case where this is happening. If there are more, please report all issues to us (with the necessary info like SW version, model number, serial number, etc.).
NETTV is slow and/or not working with many consumers => Fixed in Firmware 140.40
Embedded cover arts of MP3 files seem to have a size limitation (tbc)
This is a limitation of the TV set (will not be changed).
No IP-EPG when using DVB-S(2)-Tuner
NetTV crashes, when getting channel updates from cable provider (see http://www.supportforum.philips.com/en/showthread.php?1675-Philips-NetTV-ends-crashes-when-getting-channel-update)
Unfortunately we cannot reproduce this issue. We found sofar only one case where this is happening. If there are more, please report all issues to us (with the necessary info like SW version, model number, serial number, etc.).
Loading of commercials is impeding usage of NetTV (see http://www.supportforum.philips.com/en/showthread.php?1285-Loading-of-Commercials-is-impeding-the-usage-of-Net-TV)
Will be fixed with the new Smart TV implementation.
How to "scroll" through a zoomed EPG-Page? (see http://www.supportforum.philips.com/en/showthread.php?835-How-to-quot-scroll-quot-through-a-zoomed-EPG-Page)
It is not possible to scroll through the zoomed Page. This is a limitation of the TV set (will not be changed).
Switching between Net TV Home and OpenInternet or App store interrupts PIP-sound (see http://www.supportforum.philips.com/en/showthread.php?1286-Switching-between-Net-TV-Home-and-OpenInternet-or-App-store-interrupts-PIP-sound)
This is a limitation of the TV set (will not be changed).
Playing of xvid coded avi files over DLNA when specific flag (DLNA.ORG_PN) is set from some Mediaservers (see http://www.supportforum.philips.com/en/showthread.php?1754-DLNA-Interoperability-and-Mimetype)
This has been reported to our engineers. Depends on their priority list if this will be solved.
Red triangle (indication of Red Button functionality) in the upper right corner of each tv channel logo in the IP-EPG is missing since Net TV portal 2.5/2.6 (see also http://www.supportforum.philips.com/en/showthread.php?2289-Red-Button-mapping-for-2010-TVs-in-Germany)
This is a limitation of the TV set (will not be changed for 2k10 and earlier models).
Occasional sound loss when switching between HDMI inputs.
We are working on a new SW update to get this fixed.
If sleep timer is set and the sleep timer is changed, the changes are not applied (e.g. changing the sleep timer after the message "TV will be turned off after 1 minute" appears does not have any effect)
Videos without an audio stream do not work
This is a limitation of the TV set (will not be changed).
Net TV: Adding an app from App Gallery (see: http://www.supportforum.philips.com/en/showthread.php?2482-Bug-Adding-an-app-from-App-Gallery)
Will be fixed with the new Smart TV implementation.
Dynamic Backlight of PIP window (broadcast content) affects complete Net TV GUI (see http://www.supportforum.philips.com/en/showthread.php?979-PiP-and-dynamic-background-light)
This is a limitation of the TV set (will not be changed).
Dynamic Backlight does not work in 3D mode
Net TV Portal 2.6: German date format is not (completely) correct (see: http://www.supportforum.philips.com/en/showthread.php?1430-New-Program-Guide!-(IP-EPG).&p=13192&viewfull=1#post13192)
Net TV videos stopp suddenly after e.g. 88 minutes (see: http://www.supportforum.philips.com/en/showthread.php?2989-ZDF-Mediathek-App-Videos-stopp-at-88-minutes-on-Philips-TVs)
Dimming problem when subtitles appear on 32PFL9705 (also on 40/46" & 9956) (http://www.supportforum.philips.com/en/showthread.php?1265-Dimming-problem-every-time-subtitles-appear-on-32PFL9705)
Pixels flashing in black regions right next to brighter objects (http://www.supportforum.philips.com/en/showthread.php?1892-PFL9705-New-%28and-Old%29-Bug-List-Collection&p=17683&viewfull=1#post17683)
Bright colours juddering around half a centimeter behind where they should be when panning with "Dynamic Backlight" = Off and "Clear LCD" = On (http://www.supportforum.philips.com/en/showthread.php?1892-PFL9705-New-%28and-Old%29-Bug-List-Collection) (the second "new" bug in the opening post)
DVB-EPG reminder: The reminder pop-up appears even if one is already on the right channel (see: http://www.supportforum.philips.com/en/showthread.php?2223-Important-Bugs-which-need-to-be-fixed-in-2010-firmware-(TV550R1)&p=20287&viewfull=1#post20287)

Nice list. I want to add that only DD seems to happen in passthrough (ARC or SPDIF). Not event PCM stereo does not pass through. My SPDIF connected amplifier is able to receive nothing except DD.

Good idea, it is difficult to track those thing over all that posts.

My wishes to be included in you list:

1. If I remember correctly, 2010 TVs can't show IP-EPG when using SAT-Tuner.
For me, this is a bug. When buying the TV, I was not aware to have that limitation. I even think about exchange it.
"No IP-EPG when using SAT-Tuner"

2. Playing of xvid coded avi files over DLNA when specific flag (DLNA.ORG_PN) is set from some Mediaservers.
http://www.supportforum.philips.com/en/showthread.php?1754-DLNA-Interoperability-and-Mimetype

3. NetTV crashes, when getting channel updates from cable provider
http://www.supportforum.philips.com/en/showthread.php?1675-Philips-NetTV-ends-crashes-when-getting-channel-update
It is very difficult for me to debug this, since I do not know when a channel update is provided.

4. Loading of commercials is impeding usage of NetTV
http://www.supportforum.philips.com/en/showthread.php?1285-Loading-of-Commercials-is-impeding-the-usage-of-Net-TV

5. How to "scroll" through a zoomed EPG-Page?
http://www.supportforum.philips.com/en/showthread.php?835-How-to-quot-scroll-quot-through-a-zoomed-EPG-Page

Feature wish:
1. Save the channel list on usb in a file to save it.

Nice to have, but less important than other stuff (might be kept out):

1. Switching between Net TV Home and OpenInternet or App store interrupts PIP-sound
http://www.supportforum.philips.com/en/showthread.php?1286-Switching-between-Net-TV-Home-and-OpenInternet-or-App-store-interrupts-PIP-sound

2. Support to access local web pages in local network without Philips proxy.

I do not want to flood the list, So Toengel feel free to validate and change it

I recently had lots of freezes when rewinding or forwarding on .mkv-files from usb-harddisk. Sometimes the 46PFL9705K hangs completely so that no picture is visible, even on Sat, sometimes switching to Sat works but no possibility to watch the mkv again without a restart of the TV, unfortunately no possibility to foreward or jump to the hanging position. In general the media player is a stub.

Hi Toengel,

thanks for updating. For Feature 12. I would say this is a bug. File is played from other media servers not sending the flag. If sending the flag, file is not played. WMS 11 has a bug not to send the flag, so this works as a media server. TV should just ignore the flag.

Hi Toengel,
I tried to verify bug 13, but were not succesfull.
There seems to be more than just a size limit.

Are there any TV's or MP3-files for which it is working or is this more a new feature than a bug?

if u press (accidental) the return/back key longer then 3 secs, the tv is jumping everytime to channel 1 (dvb-t / dvb-c).
this happens also for a poor and only internal sat user like me, but there is no boadcast on this channel.
maybe a not-usable feature :p

Not sure, if you want to include bugs which happen in the NetTV apps?
If so, there is this one: http://www.supportforum.philips.com/en/showthread.php?2022-YouTube-app-doesn-t-save-login-and-password-info

It's always a good question, if such errors occur in NetTV, if this is a Philips error. Sometimes a user can't really decide if the root of the error is in the content providers app or in the embedded browser of the TV.
Anybody ideas about accessing those apps with a PC and a similar/normal browser?
Are there links to the apps to debug them with PC?

Toengel@Alex

Never used music player of tv before, but connected my USB HDD to my TV to give it a try.
Oh boy, this "music player" is a really basic one.... and concerning the embedded cover art : I never saw a cover art for any song. I tried at least 20 songs (all my mp3's have cover art).

I saw that for the 2011 series it's now possible to attach a Bluetooth keyboard via
USB dongle - I think this should be added to the feature list.

Another nice feature might be to completely open the firmware to allow customer to
do the necessary fixes...

Hi Toengel,

Many many thanks for this great initiative! The list is maintainable and we don't need to dive into dozens of (duplicated) discussions to inspect the status of particular issues. I wonder to which extent the list is similar to the list Philips' project leader on TV firmware development has got. Most welcome would be a response from Philips on this list. Most companies do understand the importance of communication.
Some positive sound: When I returned from holidays 2 weeks ago Net TV was for some reason much faster then before and it still is. Another thing is that forwarding/rewinding in 3 movies on USB is doing fine since the latest firmware (.39)

Something else: have you ever thought to have a group of community people who are beta testers for new fw (with the possibility to fall back on a released fw). People who think 'this is not something TV consumers should/can do', simply won't join.

Cheers,
daL

I doubt that is even an option. All the Audio and Video decoding takes place inside specializeds DSPs for the supported codecs and not in software with a general purpose CPU. Imagin the processing power that would be needed to decode a H.264 1080p stream on a general purpose CPU. And i'm not even talking about all the picture quality enhancement algorithmes that take place.

The general purpose IP-Core inside the PNX85500 SoC (which is the center of our TV550 platform based TVs) is nothing more than a 32Bit MIPS32 24K running at 300MHz. And i doubt it has a lot of cycles to spare for additional audio codecs - even if the system design would allow to do that kind of stuff outside the audio processing chain.

All who want to have a little insight into the TV550 platform i highly recommend a look at this presentation: http://www.hotchips.org/archives/hc21/3_tues/HC21.25.600.SoC-Clocking-Epub/HC21.25.611.Osborne-NXP-PNX85500%20-%20Hot%20Chips%20Presentation%20-%20090825.pdf

DSPs are (re)programmable (unless it's some pre-historic technology), they have software inside to allow them to perform specific tasks.
I know about the PNX85500 chip, I have that pdf.

There are (full HD) media player boxes that have a CPU at around 300Mhz and 256MB of RAM (or even 128MB) and with firmware updates they provide support for more codecs.
Certainly, it's not rocket science.

What I really miss in NetTV is that the PIP in the upper right corner, doesn't show the image from attached devices, only tv image. As it doesn't show the image from my mediaplayer, my Xbox or my settop box, I am looking at a black image most of the time.

BUG
Occasional sound loss when switching between HDMI inputs.

I have seen many good feature suggestions here. However, because I’m a new Philips user, I’m curious to know if Philips has ever released a software update with new features or even modifications the existing ones? Let’s take the sleep timer as an example. It’s buried behind several menus, and I’m sure Philips has heard customers’ complaints about it. Providing a shortcut would probably be the easiest feature request ever to put into practice, but still Philips seems reluctant to do so. That makes me wonder if Philips has a policy that they stick to bug fixes, but will not change anything in the features-category.

Dear Philips, dear all,

I made a list of observed bugs, missing features, and needed clarifications for the 2010 TV series firmware (TV550R1).

@Philips
Please take a deep look at this list. This could be a good place to gather some information in a ordered way. And please state some answers to the clarification part!

@All
If you found further bugs, please state a "one line description", cause I'd like to update the list regularily.

Clarifications:
IP EPG and Ziggo: Ziggo says IP-EPG should work in parallel with DVB-EPG. Why does it not work?
How is the status of EPG over DVB-T in countries such as Greece? Why do restrictions exist?
Does DTS and/or DD passthrough work with this setup?: BDP->HDMI->TV->SPDIF->HTS
Does DTS and/or DD passthrough work with this setup?: BDP->HDMI->TV->HDMI-ARC->HTS
Whats the maximum USB-HDD size supported by the TV series?
Which TV series support native 24p inputs (pulldown, which setup etc.)?
Now/Next EPG OSD (transparent layer during zapping): What's the reason why this feature is not implemented (anymore)?
What is the customer supposed to do, if he/she still has sound drop issues? Will this be fixed by software or hardware only?
Features:

SRT subtitles are not supported
switching between audio streams in media files is not working
if DTS is present in media files, complete video is not playable even if video coded is supported
status page (option button - status info) does not show frequency of input source (e.g.
DTS support
Add support for more open audio codecs: FLAC, Ogg-Vorbis, APE, etc.
Allow analog stereo audio output on the SCART plugs, from any input source (internal - digital and analog tuners - and external)
Net TV PIP: support also external sources (such as HDMI)
Bugs:
USB content is not shown in alphabetical order (or add an option to sort differently via the option button menu - such as by name, by date, last modified, ...)
during visibility of volume OSD, one is not able to switch channels or doing something different by pressing a button
DVB subtitles and volume OSD cannot be shown at the same time (tbc)
teletext is sometimes not working (nothing happens if one press teletext menu entry)
TV channel lists: sorting does always apply to the complete list
IP-EPG/channel mapping is always based on the complete channel list - independed of the actual chosen list
internal update mechanism is stuck at 140.27
MultiView (Cinema 21:9): translation error in German OSD, if one opens the menu to switch MultiView inputs ("Browse Menu" is shown)
Teletext (Cinema 21:9): aspect ratio of tv stream on the left is wrong in Dual View mode
Translation error: German "What's on" menu displays english weekday on the bottom left // with DVB-C no weekday is shown (tbc)
Some TV sets restart (e.g. 40pfl8605) when you switch off the TV while watching video via DLNA or USB
NETTV is slow and/or not working with many consumers => Fixed in Firmware 140.40
Embedded cover arts of MP3 files seem to have a size limitation (tbc)
No IP-EPG when using DVB-S(2)-Tuner
NetTV crashes, when getting channel updates from cable provider (see http://www.supportforum.philips.com/en/showthread.php?1675-Philips-NetTV-ends-crashes-when-getting-channel-update)
Loading of commercials is impeding usage of NetTV (see http://www.supportforum.philips.com/en/showthread.php?1285-Loading-of-Commercials-is-impeding-the-usage-of-Net-TV)
How to "scroll" through a zoomed EPG-Page? (see http://www.supportforum.philips.com/en/showthread.php?835-How-to-quot-scroll-quot-through-a-zoomed-EPG-Page)
Switching between Net TV Home and OpenInternet or App store interrupts PIP-sound (see http://www.supportforum.philips.com/en/showthread.php?1286-Switching-between-Net-TV-Home-and-OpenInternet-or-App-store-interrupts-PIP-sound)
Playing of xvid coded avi files over DLNA when specific flag (DLNA.ORG_PN) is set from some Mediaservers (see http://www.supportforum.philips.com/en/showthread.php?1754-DLNA-Interoperability-and-Mimetype)
Occasional sound loss when switching between HDMI inputs.

Toengel, thank you so much for your effort. This is a great list. I hope Philips will finally hear from their customers. However, I am not optimistic as I see that for months their responses on the forum have been selective, limited and toned in a way that it is always the customers that are doing something wrong. If I knew beforehand that as simple feature as subtitle support from external sources was not available I'd never go the Philips TV route. Now I am left with such huge disappointment and an expensive TV in my living room that I can't use for watching movies with my friends unless they speak perfect English and the rest of world's languages. That's some "sense and simplicity". Way to go Philips!

If the message has been shown, there is no way you can stop the TV from entering stand-by.
This is a bug I have reported a year now, and probably will never be fixed.
If you change the timer before the message shows (i.e. two minutes before the expiration), everything works as expected.

I just tried on my TV. I never used the SleepTimer before and I never thought it was such difficult to find that function in the menu :-D. I did not succeed by browsing the different menus, I needed the internal help to find it.

Once you have seen the message, you can't reset the SleepTimer. I think this is a bug.

Hi smart,

do you still experiences NET TV crashes with FW 140.40? At the moment it is more worse than with the FW´s before. There is a solution ( clear NET TV memory ) but this helps only for few hours up to a day until the memory is obviously full again.

Philips is releasing some firmware versions (like the last 140) that only corrects ONE feature/bug.
The list of features and bugs on the first post of this thread is already enough for giving the Philips TV firmware guy (I still think it's only one!) work for at least... 4 years.
But after two years, they discontinue the 2010 TV models and no more updates, many things will not get corrected.

I've heard/read about the new SmartTV interface, also on the 'older' 2010 sets (search on Smart TV Philips).
I'm gessing that a lot of development effort has gone into this, were probably a lot of the code has been hussled around or maybe even completely rewritten.
Hopefully a lot of these bugs are all (indirectly) fixed...

They've got at least my curiosity...

Dear Carlosfm,
you don't need to figure out what will happen....it's already happening.

The R&D is busy to implement new features for the 2011-2012 models and the issues/bugs of the previous models are for sure put as "reserve".

Some examples?

Hi all,

from a certain point of view I can understand, that we don't see any response from
Philips, but to be honest - even a short reply would be better much than obviously
fully ignoring Alex' list.

I think this list is a good summary and IMO there are some points on it that could be
easily fixed - and make customers happy.

I got a bit the impression that the xxx5 series was a usability test for some features -
think about the missing buttons on the remote control and compare it with the new
one - think about the limited now-and-next feature - in fact simply see what the customer
is willing to accept and what not.

how to realize negative sleep timers (even with 140 firmware):

1. set timer to 5 minutes
2. wait until the tv warns you, that it will turn off in a minute
3. go to the sleep timer menu and set the timer again to 5 minutes.
4. the firmware ignores your changed sleep timer setting and turns off the tv in about 30 to 60 seconds (depends how fast you are able to access the sleep timer...)
5. imidiatelly after the tv turns off, turn it on agian (i.e. by clicking the right button on the control to simulate a chanel change)
6. check sleep timer settings: it should show -1
7. wait some time an watch the sleeptimer raising in negative directiion...

while I am writing this post my sleep timer shows -17 minutes...

at point 5. you sholud be very fast. If you are to slow, the tv should turn off completally. At this moment the sleep timer will be reset to 0.

Hey Toengel,

I just remembered another bug, which is there since the update of the add app dialog:
http://www.supportforum.philips.com/en/showthread.php?2482-Bug-Adding-an-app-from-App-Gallery

It might be an issue where investigation can be dropped if SmartTV update will make the dialogue obsolete.
But I would add it to the list, if SmartTV update will change this, we can mark it fixed.

I still have issues with my 40PFL9705K/02 TV running Firmware 000.140.040.000 and my BDP9600/12 Blu-ray Player running Firmware V1.56.

1) TV: Channel switching audio issue:
When using DVB-T in Germany, it sometimes happens, that after switching channels, no audio can be heard. Switching back and forth brings back the audio.

2) TV + Blu-ray Player: Interaction of TV with Blu-ray Player:
The interaction between 40PFL9705K wasn't good since day one.
- A major issue is, when both, TV and Player, are off and switching on the Player, the TV starts automatically. Under such circumstances, the TV sometimes forgets many settings. e.g. it completely forgets any Ambilight settings and they need to configured again from scratch. Sometimes then, it doesn't save the settings on first attempt.
- Another issue is, that the Player options do not always show in the TV settings menu. Sometimes the show up and still stay even when the Player is already switched off. This is an unpredictable behavior.

3) Blu-Live bug with Blu-ray Player:
There are still constellations when some Blu-rays do not play when a network connection is present and a Blu-ray does have the Blu-Live feature. The Blu-ray then plays once but not a second time. As a workaround it does only help to clear the disc cache and to disconnect from the internet. Enableing Bl-Live Security didn't help.

Hi,

I think today I have found a bug that is not listed so far.
1.) Watching a 21:9 motion picture at a 16:9 TV. That means black stripes on top and bottom of the tv screen.
2.) When the Zoom-option "maximize visible area" is active there can be short black flicker found on the screen.
HINT: If you change the zoom-option from something else to "maximize visible area", you need to change the channel (e.g. press ">|" and "|<") to see the black flicker bug.
4.) I did not find this flicker when I choose a other zoom option that "maximize visible area".

One bug that resembles bug 4: ( teletext is sometimes not working (nothing happens if one press teletext menu entry))

This also counts for accessing EPG. A lot of the times the menu with "program guide, channel list, teletext" just disappears after I choose the program guide. The channel list and teletext
don't have the problem in my case.

So it seems when I configure the tv to use IP-EPG, I get the DVB-EPG. And sometimes just nothing... some error message would be nice.

Feature Request:
In the IP-EPG, skip entire pages forward or backward by the CH+/CH- buttons.
(Currently, you can only scroll down or up by one channel at a time. With dozens of channels, this is tedious. It would be nice to be able to skip entire pages, like in the ordinary channel overview.)

Hi,

if you show the on-screen buttons (via option menu) I think you can flip pages via the P+/P-. However, for 2010/2011 series your proposed solution should also be considered... (Can you please verify the P+/P- function?).

@Toengel: Thank you, I just tried your suggestion. There are P+/P- buttons on my virtual remote control, but in the IP-EPG they don't seem to have any effect whatsoever. In fact, only the play button seems to have an effect in the "Recordings" section in that it starts the playback of a recording. Otherwise, the virtual remote control seems to have no function other than showing buttons that you can press through the "Ok" button on your remote, yet without any effect.

Dear Thomas,

thank for all your answers.
But some answers I do not understand:

BUG: How to "scroll" through a zoomed EPG-Page? (see http://www.supportforum.philips.com/...oomed-EPG-Page)
A: It is not possible to scroll through the zoomed Page. This is a limitation of the TV set (will not be changed).

Request: To understand it right as the TV was designed the zoom function was programmed and written in the option menu and now you write due to a limitation of the TV set it is not possible to scroll around. If there are links at the zoomed pages i can pseudo scroll by jumping from link to link (that mean in principal it works if there are enough links in the content) but it is a limitation of the TV set and will not be changed.

BUG: Switching between Net TV Home and OpenInternet or App store interrupts PIP-sound (see http://www.supportforum.philips.com/...upts-PIP-sound)
A: This is a limitation of the TV set (will not be changed).

Request: At IP-EPG the PiP-Sound is not interrupted so it is not a limitation at IP-EPG but at NetTV it is?
Experiment at my 40pfl7605h/12: Watching TV; Channel ProSieben. Press red button. Page starts up without any sound interruption although PiP displays "No TV signal available" but sound is running without any interruption . Now press browser button. Ohh have a look now I'm at NetTV home without any sound interruption and running PiP.

BUG: Red triangle (indication of Red Button functionality) in the upper right corner of each tv channel logo in the IP-EPG is missing since Net TV portal 2.5/2.6 (see also http://www.supportforum.philips.com/...TVs-in-Germany)
A: This is a limitation of the TV set (will not be changed for 2k10 and earlier models)

Request: The red triangle was already there at 2010 models so it was not a limitation of the TV set in past but now it is?

Sorry to say but I feel dismissed by some answers.

1.SRT subtitles are not supported
Due to TV limitations, this will not be supported in 2k10 (or older) sets.

I mean, come on, we are not talking about implementing PS3/Xbox emulator here or something.... The TV should be able to handle something as simple as subtitles....

But I guess it's my fault for not asking about these features before purchase...

And I'm very exited that you are "investigating the Now/Next-Feature" - we customers would be very happy if this has a positive ending!

Clarification 3 and 4:

Dolby Digital Passthough does NOT work for this setup: BDP->HDMI->TV->SPDIF->HTS
I cannot passthrough the Dolby Digital 5.1 stream from a DVD (with my Philips BDP9600) through this setup! I only get PCM Stereo.

Hi! Great thread - thanks Toengel, thanks Thomas!

My 46pfl9705 still has the occasional Dynamic Backlight problem with semi-dark pictures. The Dynamic Backlight tends to go completely dark, even though some details of the picture should still be visible. In addition to that, in some cases the Backlight tends to flicker if semi-dark backgrounds aren't completely calm.

I can also confirm, that NetTV crashes haven't been solved completely with the latest updates. The German "tagesschau"-App still crashes the whole TV from time to time.

Heard that this has to do with the fact that the TV cannot handle all video formats, and hangs-up in some rare cases. Therefore Net TV app developers must take care that the correct video formats are offered in their app. Meaning that the provider of Tageschau (in this case) has some responsibility here. Maybe complain at their side?

Some of Philips' answers I find strange, to say the least.
Like this one:

"5.TV channel lists: sorting does always apply to the complete list
This is a limitation of the TV set (will not be changed)."

This is the worst TV set I've seen in this respect.
I've lost patience and gave up tuning and sorting the 30 analog channels that I have in my cable.
Fortunately, I have the cable provider's digital receiver box connected to this TV, so I don't need the analog channels.
Please see what you've done previously in your old CRTs, which were much easier to tune. I had one for almost 20 years.
See what LG does, it's very easy to sort and organize analog channels.

"Limitation of the TV set"?
Philips, this is software. You just don't want to be bothered with this.

Hi,

I've got the very same problem as rollufje, that around every 3rd or 4th time I want to open the IP-EPG, some minutes after booting, it does not show up while the "program guide, channel list, teletext" just disappears. I've got no problems with the channel list or teletext. I don't use the DVB-EPG (but if needed I can test that too).
This problem appears when TV was in stand-by as well as when it was completely turned off.
Deleting the NetTV cache doesn't solve the problem.

Toengel@Alex

No, the bluray player is a samsung one. I was thinking to buy the 9600, but I couldn't find it in the stores. Which player are you having? Maybe its reading the EDID of the TV wrongly?
(The samsung one selects automatically the DD track on disks if it exists, else it sends PCM 2.0 by default. So, it is reading what the TV supports and acts accordingly).

Regarding the NetTV crashes:

It's the same with the "tagesschau"-App & Q-Tom. Both apps show several video clips one after the other. Crashes usually occur in between two clips or within the first few seconds after a clip has started. The TV then simply turns black, after a few seconds ambilight switches off and then the TV restarts itself showing the last regular TV channel (before NetTV has been used). At least getting NetTV back up is much faster since the latest firmware update.

The crashes can't be repeated or triggered in any way. Sometimes the "tagesschau"-App runs smoothly through the whole playlist, sometimes it crashes right on the second video clip, sometimes later. (It doesn't seem to have anything to do with the codecs of specific videos as a) all "tagesschau"-videos probably use the same codec and b) videos which have just crashed usually work fine when you try again.) It seems to occur less often since the latest update, but it still happens. The same with Q-Tom - sometimes the app works for quite some time, sometimes it doesn't - you can hardly ever make it past the half hour mark. Sooner or lated it crashes and restarts the TV.

Hi,

first of all, thanks to Philips to give some statements.

...
Clarifications:
...
What is the customer supposed to do, if he/she still has sound drop issues? Will this be fixed by software or hardware only?
Most of the sound drops are solved since SW version 140.34 (and later), Any remaining issues will be tackled in the next SW version.

Okay with that, so I stay tuned and test the next version - any idea when it'll pop up?

...
Features:
...
USB HID support
Due to TV limitations, this will not be supported in 2k10 (or older) sets.
...

To be honest, I can't think of any real TV limitation - except the recompiled Linux kernel plus drivers won't fit
any longer to the flash memory. It should not be a big problem to provide the USB-HID feature including
support for Bluetooth. Sorry, but this "Due to TV limitations..." sentence sounds like a lame excuse.

It would be pretty interesting to start an open source project and provide additional feature to such
TV sets like the 8/9K10 series...

Gerhard

They produce nice videos where users with keyboards (!) are writing in NetTV, menus with non-existent options, widgets that disappeared in the way...
I cannot see the tutorial anymore on the site. Related to your discovery perhaps? ;)
Let alone "obscure" specification with unfulfilled promises (i.e. EPG for Greece).

It is very unprofessional for a company such as Philips to be erratic in this way.
My 2009 40pfl8664 had the now/next when switching channels yet my new 'state of the art' (in 2010)40pfl9705 does not.

Why is this?, and also how come the newer version of the EPG does not work in the UK and also Irish viewers have to set their tv to UK for the MHEG5 teletext to work therefore losing the new EPG.
As already listed there are many many other issues with the tv's. Overall I am happy with the picture and audio but the extras could at least work as they are supposed to.
There is something amiss within the philips organisation. For the full package to be successful, the software and hardware have to work properly. I advise you to change your engineers or is it the quality control department that should be changed ??
Please do something or you will quickly lose customers, you will go same way as the british car industry if not!!

I think, there is currently a change in the game of modern TVs. Many innovations are introduced and a TV is getting a more and more complex system which has to be integrated. More and more software has to be developed to get all the functionality which is requested by the consumer.

On the other hand, it is state of the art, that there is no method to write bug-free software. So the planning of resources to spent during development phase of new TVs and on support of older TVs is a huge challenge.

I'm sure, that Philips is aware of the list, they commented on it.
I'm not sure on the amount of resource capabilities which are spent on support of TVs which are in the market.

But I think it is better to give a little time to fix the things and do them right by constructions instead of doing many firmware releases which might introduce also new bugs. So we might have to be patient...

I also would like to have more information on the status, but I understand that this is not easy. You can't really estimate how difficult the problems are to solve.

I do not understand is that televisions offered for sale in the middle of things do not work. I do not understand that one year after the sale to a TV still has a list 27 bugs and 32 improvements.

I do not understand that one year after the sale to a TV have not yet had the dignity to update the web browser and effort in Youtube leanback.

I do not understand is because the competition offers better performance and without as many limitations as is Philips.

What I understand is that Philips must make changes and not firing 4500 employees as announced.

Philips must change its quality controls. Philips is to sell their TVs when they are well prepared. Philips should be more agile. Philips must respond to requests from their clients and not ignore them.

On the other hand would ask the moderator to organize a forum recently. There are many recurring themes and misplaced.

Thank you very much.

I agree with Xmen! Why should the consumer be some kind of beta-tester, but spend a lot of money on a new TV.
When you buy a new car with special features you also expect that they all work proper...

No, nothing new, not even a new firmware that corrects 1/10th of what was reported.

I'd like some navigation improvements for the "on screen keyboard" and the "home menu".
Eg. : no more stop at the left-right (or top-bottom) of the margins.
It should be possible to switch from the end to the beginning of the on screen keyboard simply by continuing in the same direction. The same for the "home menu".

I'll vote for that! Also in the rest of the (setup) menu's.

My TV should have been placed in front of me now, but the repairman came, connected it and turned it on. The dark stripes on the right side were gone, but still two new (small) darker spots were visible, so he packet it back in again.. :(
At least I got a decent loaner a week ago (32" 7695), so I can go on enjoying quite a good picture and sound in HD, but alas only 2 sides of ambilight...

I do have the feeling that the menu is a bit more 'snippy' on this 7000 series, while it felt a bit slougish on my own 9705...

first 3d crosstalk is by far more visible than philips say the tv has.
second is better local dimming control.i know that this kind of led tvs have some bugs but in many scenes this i watch is unwatchable especially at low IRE.see an example

Yes, I know what Philips says on the phone. They promise EPG with a pending firmware update.
See also this thread, to see how true are these "hardware" and "software" limitations:

http://www.supportforum.philips.com/en/showthread.php?2788-Very-very-disappointed-about-Greek-EPG...

i saw that and i did this with settings to Latvia.i don't understand why we have bud timing when we are in the same GTM+2 ZONE.also its not good.when you choose epg you have to wait some seconds to open without image and sound and then if you want to see informations about a program you have to wait again to open information in a new window.compare with my SAMSUNG's epg it is awful.see an image for what i am talking about.its not from my tv but its the same

http://gonedigital.net/wp-content/uploads/SamsungEPG.jpg

all these bugs look like my tv has too poor hardware and software material.
in few world expensive packaging with poor content.

Hello Toengel,

Thanks for the bugs-list. I do want add more bugs+features to this list.

1 - When choose teletextsubtitles (pressing down and then choose "Taal ondertitels" > "T888" (picture 1) the subtitles are way too big. The difference between normal 888 (picture 3) and earlier called way (picture 2) is to big.

2 - Also i bought Philips flat tv because my old Philips CRT TV supports automatic showed T888 when it is available. Now after buying i explored this is not available in digital tv, only for analog tv. I dont believe it is impossible. I want ask Philips to make it happened. Or make a extra line in the list "ondertitels aan tijdens mute/ondertitels uit/ondertitels aan" "T888 weergeven" so i dont need to press above, choose teletext, choose 888 en waiting before i can understand whats saying and not able to see whats happened on screen (because teletext is searching to 888 and is not transparant). The list i described is 1/4 part of the screen so i can see something before the 888 is showed up.

3 - Make IP-EPG + now&next OSD available for Netherland and 2010 models.

Please look at the next posted pictures for the difference as discribed in 1.

BUG: when an (HDMI) device is switched off, the TV displays a large white bar at the bottom with "no signal" forever, the TV does not go to standby.
This used to work until a certain firmware version, I'm not sure which. The TV went to standby after some minutes without signal.
This is a serious problem reported here by another forum member almost a year ago.
Philips has done nothing, after all this time.

What about feature 22 please ?
(add an option to make the volume of the headphones directly adjustable through the remote control (ie. by the volume button, not by a setting placed in some nested menu).)

I need that absolutely. It is a real disaster for me to scroll through 10 menus and submenus ...
Has this feature been added meanwhile please ?

So we'll have to live with the bugs and missing features until have money for something better...

Hallo Alex! :)

I went through your complete opening post... 631 to see which ones were still missing that are in one of my threads. And this is the result:

Bug 1: Dimming problem when subtitles appear on 32PFL9705 (also on 40/46" & 9956) (http://www.supportforum.philips.com/en/showthread.php?1265-Dimming-problem-every-time-subtitles-appear-on-32PFL9705)

Bug 2: Pixels flashing in black regions right next to brighter objects (http://www.supportforum.philips.com/en/showthread.php?1892-PFL9705-New-%28and-Old%29-Bug-List-Collection&p=17683&viewfull=1#post17683)

Bug 3: Bright colours juddering around half a centimeter behind where they should be when panning with "Dynamic Backlight" = Off and "Clear LCD" = On (http://www.supportforum.philips.com/en/showthread.php?1892-PFL9705-New-%28and-Old%29-Bug-List-Collection) (the second "new" bug in my opening post)

Feature: when pressing the (vacant) blue button once, swap between the last two selected sources. Pressing it more often would select one of your other sources, in the order in which they were last used, like Alt-Tab in Windows. A small information line in the left corner could show the name of the selected source, just like it does when changing the volume.

Hopefully your thread has more impact on Philips... :p

Hello,

I'm experiencing frequent audio drop outs on connected audio devices (Bose via optical converter from coax digital out, Denon via optical converter from coax digital out as well as directly from coax digital out).

The drop outs appear every few minutes or so, sometimes they are only a few seconds apart, then no drop outs for another five minutes and so on. The drop out time is just a few seconds (one to three seconds).

There are no drop outs in the picture or the audio of the TV itself.

Due to the fact that different audio equipment behaves the same when connected to the TV, it is definetly a problem with the Philips TV. There is another post on this forum describing similar behaviour for other Philips TV models.

I have updated to the latest SW version Q5524-0.140.390. The update did not change anything.

Any help is appreciated. I really like the TV, but I would have to return it if this problem can't be resolved.

Dear Philips Electronics N.V!

A type of LCD TV Philips 37PFL5405/12 owner or preparation. Below this unit I would like to ask for their help.

The television does not work properly, error: periodic hangelvesztés watching TV and HDMI connected device. The TV system without losing your voice, it's 1-2-3 seconds, it's unpredictable intervals, sometimes for hours, sometimes several times within 5 minutes. The device off and on after the error temporarily disappears.

The above problem in Hungary went to customer service. They suggested an HDMI cable replacement and software upgrade done, but the error is not resolved. Then I gave the official Philips TV to an authorized service center, but the service could not fix the problem.
A support forum for Philips respondent promised to prepare and publish a software update, which improves the error. The software update has been made available, unfortunately, does not remedy the problem.

Given that the Philips support pages last 2011th month of July was a new software update (which is not corrected the error), there are concerns that you have no plans to repair this error.

The machine warranty period is about to expire. I do not want the warranty period has expired after a malfunctioning device to provide.

A selection of TV long after I chose my expectations were to meet, the visual capabilities of the product are wonderful. But unfortunately, the error described above strongly interfere with the enjoyment of television.

There is also a Philips product in my household, and Philips will continue to trust the skills, knowledge and that of its customers' feedback and concerns of the relevant competence and expertise to handle.

As shown above, please be kind to propose a solution to troubleshoot your problem. If such a solution has not yet been developed, such a repair option does not exist, so - because this error in the unit of service provided by unpalatable, disturbing and terribly annoying - please propose another solution that can be a unit replacement type filled with water meter, which works perfectly.

I would like to bring up a

FEATURE REQUEST
I very often watch movies via DLNA from computers within my network. So I firstly was very glad that my 52PFL8605 is capable of handling that. Unfortunately one important feature is missing: going directly to a time position, which has to be entered.
I was using this very often with my old network multimedia player. Positioning with fast forward is very annoying.

By the way, do you encounter a crackling sound or sometimes a stuttering video after some time (~20 min) when watching videos via DLNA? My impression is that I get this since version 140.040, but I am not sure. Can anybody confirm?

Certainly technically i don't see why Philips is not going to support some more items, like HID (keyboard) etc. because the mainprocessor PNX is exactly the same as in 2k11. Only the software is changed and lvds (Vx1) mainly, plus there are only 4dram boards (ssb) now. Commercially i can understand because it is an extra selling issue. Plus that Philips is not building the mainboard anymore but TPV is, the only Philips in 2k11 is PNX and the Bolton board for some models. Software is still being made by Philips, except for the cheaper range TPM models.
If they wantthey can change the software and enable HID, there in my view NO technically limits.

Then maybe you can understand how many issues arise as still more options are available, and faults not always are caused by the Philips software. But still are providing some updates to solve things wich other manufacturers fail to do correct.
Nettv issues can be caused by the NAND_FLASH wich is divided into several data areas wich are not always cleared well, or can't be cleared by a little remote trick were you can clear the NETTV cache (not the one via the MENU), also in some cases a technician has to do it via Compair wich is an utility software with interface, only available to authorised workshops.

That will only clear some part of the nand-flash, if after that nettv still does not work or other failure then it has to be cleared by a technician who has Compair, a tool that only is provided (read can be bought by) to authorised repair workshops. Dear Philips, let him help already!
I installed it, worse, than was, more the mistake!!!
I am annoyed more, than 6 of his months... I start conceiving a dislike for it already the TV look... :(
Philips 37PFL5405H/12 sound loss over HDMI (1) ARC!!!
Connectivity:
- satellite receiver HDMI 2
- video recorder SCART
- home theatre/DVD HDMI (1) ARC
I listen to the sound through the home theatre. The sound the satellite receiver and the sound of the video recorder are perfect. The DVD is perfect likewise.

Now already on the satellite set top box a sound digital chug (?) is beside the sound in the function of the volume. the sound of the TV is still not functioning properly, even is I have made various complaints before
Solution: new, good software, service, dustbin ?...

Chris

I was kind off satisfied about the service of E-Care (1st repair AND politeness), but now after the 9705 TV has been collected for the 4th time at Friday 2nd December and still not having heard anything I called today.

Again got the message that it is at the repair and about to be repaired, although we've indicated that we do NOT have any faith in the fact that they can fix it (and it being able to work for at least half a year), so we want to know what the alternatives are...

Especially because between the 2nd repair and the 3rd collection was no more than 5 mins and the 3rd repair lasted tops a month AND they damaged the speaker cone at the back during transport/repair.

It's like they're hoping that we would forget the TV and let us stuck with the (not so bad) 32PFL7406 replacement set...
They now indicated that a(nother) remark has been added to the dossier and we will be called tomorrow, or at most the day after about a solution....

I know this is probably not the correct thread for this, but it does give us some relief... ;)
Thanks all!
Chris

PS: I see the last firmware was not so much a success.. too bad.. :(

An update: Last week I decided to call again after the 2 days had passed and this time I did got a good explanaition: the request was already at Philips and we had to wait untill they responded. I provided some feedback that probably it would have been better if they explained that directly the first time I called...

So yesterday I was called for an appointment when they could bring our brand new 40PFL9705 TV!
I've got a bit of mixed feelings as - of course - I'm very glad we've got a new TV, which hopefully will fix all pciture and sound problems!
But secretly I was kinda hoping it would be the brand-new 40PFL9606...
Apparently the old TV broke down just a bit too soon... ;)

So Friday I can again join the firmware test team ;)

I did: I called E-Care (responsible for the repair of the TV) that I wouldn't accept the 4th repair (it was 'only' repaired 3 times).
And after a lot of phone calls they agreed.

But I really don't like the way I'm being treated by them, because I just called the Philips support desk again to ask them if it really isn't possible to request a 2011 model as replacement and they were surprised that E-Care didn't mention that it - with or without some additional costs - is possible!

So tomorrow I'm again going to call E-Care again to complain/question/seek clarification about why I'm being treated like this - in the name of Philips - while Philips themselve does give me this solution...

A real pity it that I realy liked the 40" size, but in The Netherlands Philips officially only has 37 and 46 sizes.
My wife probably won't agree with the 46" and the 37" 'only' has edge lit LED... :(

Again to be continued....

Toengel@Alex

Hi Alex,

Yes, you are right, but the 40" 9606 is no longer on the Dutch philips website (after being there a couple of month) and now the 'old' 2010 model of 40 and 46 inch are there as 'current models': http://www.philips.nl/c/televisie-9000-serie/20199/cat/nl/#filterState0=9000_SERIES_FLAT_TV_SE_NL_CONSUMER%3 Dtrue.
So if I ask them explicitly for the 40" version they are right to provide me with the current 9705...

In my case (complaints for sound loss of my previous HTS5120 soundbar after the purchase), Philips has replaced it with the greater HTS7140 without additional costs.

Hi Nettle,

Thanks for that advice. The Philips support desk already told me, that E-Care should provide me with the option of other models with an additional fee, or - if less then current - a cashback
My other option is that I ask a complete cashback and order the 40" 2011 model via (Dutch) online shop...

Again: to be continued...

Hi

true, we did not mention this, we also did not mention, that you can not make usb recordings with 2k10 tv's, same is with 3d via smart TV.
On the other Side, we did not promise somewhere that this will work, did we?

Expectations and Technical Solutions are completely different, that is why we have this Forum, our Service Centers, Email/Phone and Chat Support, so you can get in contact with us to check if the TV you are up to does met your expectations.
If not, you know that this might be not the right TV for you.

Its fine for me that you found a Solution. Hope you will find a TV which is the right one for you. :)

This answer is to cheap, no one talks about usb recording, i did not expect this when i bought the TV. But i and surely everyone expects local dimming and low black levels in 3D as it is the main feature of this product. Surely lawyers will find the solution in the documents soon. By the way: Why is the cause listed as "bug" in the list?

Final update (while typing this on my new 40PFL9705):

After some conflicting phone-calls to E-care and philips (regarding what the possibilities were), I just decided to let it all go and see where it all ended.
So now I'm again enjoying my 40" 9705 (VN1M1146 - FW 140.40).
The problems I had with the model adter last repair and what I feared are thank God not present in this model. No strange backlight changes with subtitles, just nice clear picture.

(ok, so it would have been really nice to have got the 2011 model with the USB recording and build in 3D transmitter... ;) )

A happy 9705 watcher Chris.

PS: Everybody have a nice newyearseve and a great 2012!

Thanks for the wishes!
Everybody still got all their fingers? ;)

For now I did not see any things that disturbed me. I did set the picture again to standard and the dyn backlight to best picture after whatching 'Youp' last night.

The viewing angle is the same as the last panel after the repair (so really good for my standards) and I did not notice any strange dark spots, so yeah, you could say I'm actually quite content.

Anyways, it's only the 40" version that is the '2011 model'. I got some conflicting stories: the shop owner said it was expected in Feb 2012, the Philips support desk said it was skipped alltogether, so the 2012 would be arriving in september 2012...

Coming Tuesday I'm expecting the 3D transmitter (already got 2 pair of glasses). I only need to see if I can get 3D on my MediaCenter.
Anybody got some experiences with 3D on a Pre-Sandy Bridge Core i5?!

I have 40pfl6605h tv set. I dont know, it is bug or not, but I cannot rename channel (dvb-c). I select rename, change current channel name to the new one, try to save/apply, but name is shown still unchanged.

Hello,

Take a commercial multilingual DVD.

1/ put it into your old DVD625 PHILIPS player. Works like a charm (menu, scene selection, audio tracks,...).

2/ move to your favorite LINUX pc and lauch VLC. Open the dvd drive, read perfectly like DVD625.

3/ copy your dvd VIDEO_TS structure to your hardisk, with k9copy or whatever you want.

4/ lauch one more time VLC and open that VIDEO_TS directory. Ok, same as before. Reads ok.

5/ copy VIDEO_TS to your network server (DNLA) and to your usb disk drive.

6/ move to your 32pfl7605, firmware 140.046.000

7/ browse your network server, find the VIDEO_TS, find .vob files. The TV is completly lost.

8/ plug in your usb drive

8a/ browse again to VIDEO_TS and try. Nothing. (remember VLC point 4).

8b/ try a .VOB file and MIRACLE, it reads. Unbelievable. Oh it's far far far from DVD625. No menu, no sound track selection. But it reads. Wait... Yes it reads in sequence .vob files. Super. Keep reading and wait, what do I ear ? What langage is this ? THE TV JUST SWITCHED FROM FRENCH TO ENGLISH AUDIO TRACK !

your challenge feature for 2012
- handle VIDEO_TS like any dvd reader

and because you will never do that

your challenge bug fixes for 2012:
- not selecting randomly sound tracks at each chapter change.
- not read or reject a file depending on its source.

Happy new year TPV/Philips ! Start from scratch a real opensource software.

Hi,

just want to get back to this list, as the new SmartTV portal was released now.

Some items of the bug list will be solved with new SmartTV release. So we might check those items again and we might mark them as fixed with green color :D.

Thinking at "Commercials are impeding usage of NetTV".

This might encourage also the Philips team, since their improvement is also seen and we recognize their effort on this items.

@Toengel: If you find the time, you might update it? Do you think the same?

Hi,

yes, I have this on my todo list. However, I'd like to wait until the new portal is really finished and all is working (e.g. the dynamic background is not working properly and many translation errors are present).

This is the list, which we need to check:
- Bug 16
- Bug 24
- Bug 27

Did I miss something?
