View Full Version : BDP7600/12 starts sometimes without being asked

Hello to this forum!

Once a day my player starts itself without any other attached gear is running. This only happens when a medium is inside. Anyone know if i may have missed some setting in my player?
Also i wonder if it is on purpose that i canīt switch on the player from its "On" sensor? When i just shut down the player to standby the "On" sensor at the front panel works. After a while i canīt switch it on with it anymore. I have to use the remote then. If this is a power-saving feature, please shut the light off completely then.
Also one wish i have is that the eject key is intelligent enough to stop and eject a film when touched. I had to stop the playback of a DVD with the remote before i was able to eject the disc at the player sensor button.
One more strange thing is that i lost my settings completely one time. If i loose the settings a second time this piece for sure will go back. Please tell me there is a fix.

Edit: Problem solved. I send it back. After thinking twice i wondered myself why i have to look for faults of a new product myself hoping for some updates that may never come. Must be me that has bad luck with new products or there is simply more "beta state" stuff sold lately!?

Atm i use a PS3 for my Blu-Ray and DVD but i may just get me a simple BDP5200 or some LG. Still thinking about that.

Hi I got myself the 9600 the othere day and ( saturday ) and yesterday installed it. Really really nice device and am happy with it. Also looked at the 5200 and the 8000 whcih I both liked but at the end ( donīt ask me why ;) I got this one.

Think you might have just had bad luck with this 7600 ( as I had in the past with my PS3 and even worse my car  ).

I have almost all Philips products at home and am very very happy with them

hey Wombat,
a very devoted forum user, Toengel, found that BDP6000 is much more cheaper than BDP5200, yet with more features...IN GERMANY specifically...have a try?

and i actually agree with Pacman, just a little bit not lucky only. i hv bdp3200/ bdp5200/ bdp9600... so far dont have this kind of annoying problems... :)

Thanks but the BDP5200 is on its way. The BDP6000 is not available at the resellers i order. Besides that i donīt need its Cinema Perfect feature. I had this in the BDP7600. My recent Phiips 47PFL7656 TV has this feature implemented. Using it on the player and the TV twice makes no sense.
Btw. when using pixel precision on my TV i am hardly able to see any better picture from the BDP7600 against a PS3.
The TV itself polishes the data pretty well. I always wonder how people see all kinds of better pictures with different player models over HDMI.
Maybe when i make a hobby out of comparing difficult test scenes and pics iīll see a real difference. So far i only need a comfortable and not to loud play-back device delivering digital data to my TV.

So lest hope i donīt have to ask questions about problems in the BDP5000 series forum soon :)

Oh boys! This BDP5200 is a joke. Its turbo-jet drive noise fills the whole room!! Think that was it.

Hi, I also have the BDP5200 (for 2 months now) but cannot confirm the high drive noise levels Wombat is complaining about. Sure at start-up you hear some noises, but after that it is fine. Maybe the disc you are playing are not really centric? Do you hear this on all discs (blu-ray, dvd, cd)?
Until now I like this device very much, especially the very fast Net TV application, and the fact that a wireless keyboard can be connected. I can't wait for the Smart TV update......
One thing which could be improved is the remote control: I don't like the cheap feel of the buttons.

I donīt have to many Blu-Rays but on this "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" 3D the loudness difference to the broken 7600 i had is huge.
When the 5200 starts up the noise is extreme but it gets more silent when it plays into the movie. The whining noise once spotted is there all the time, in every place of my room. The PS3 does some noise also but more comfortable lower noise. My old DVD player is dead silent against all these solutions.
I didnīt think these Blu-Ray drives are that bad still.

Iīm baffled!
After rethinking the situation i was able to give the 5200 back and getting another 7600. And guess what? It sometimes is "On" when coming to my living room just as the other one.
Now i was by accident around when this happens. My aquarium light switches on the BDP7600!! LOL!
I have several electric equipment for years in my living room and now this BDP7600 reacts on some impulse by the switching on of the lights. It may induce noise for some milisecond in the power line most likely.
Sorry, but this must be a lousy designed PSU in this unit. So if i even get it under control with some additional filtering that shouldnīt be needed i wonīt trust that part. Leave alone i have much trust in it being durable at all.
I suppose thats why it forgot its settings once also.
So what to do now? The neon tubes have a netfilter already and never ever introduced problems.

Since here was no input i suppose no one else has problems with the 7600. Strange, since 2 out of 2 did strange things here over time. Just want to inform you that after the Noisy 5200 and this strange 7600 i was in a shop and tried some Samsung, Panasonic and an older BDP5180. Guess what? I did it again, i bought the 5180. It is fast enough, inexpensive, loud at seeking but very silent while playing even with 3D Blu-Ray. I like its older mirror-front design a lot. So far no problem at all! Not even ghots starts at night ;) I donīt use the Net features, so i mainly can talk about its Blu-Ray capabilities and these are superb.
