Howdy...

The list of supported formats at http://www.p4c.philips.com/cgi-bin/dcbint/oleeview.pl?refnr=0084091&dct=QAC&ctn=BDP5200/05 says RMVB files should work.
I've got a bunch that don't... They do appear to be RV40 vid codec and COOK audio codec, and they are something in the 500x400 region (TV resln roughly).

Anyone had any success with RMVB files?

Ta!

PS: f/w is v1.31, and it didn't work with v1.00 either...

to my knowledge, only /98 supports rmvb and rm...

Thanks kwinnie.
I am wondering why you think that though? Or should I ask if you are simply reading it from the list of formats, which -- after I posted my question -- has magically been updated but without any actual reply here from Philips :-/

Just to put that in context, the list of formats (to which I linked above) is a FAQ, listed in the "before you buy" section of FAQs, and it was wrong. So I'm a bit underwhelmed that someone from Philips decided to "fix" it without so much a "whoops, sorry" as a reply.
And yes, I did save a copy of the list of formats before I posted (maybe I'm just paranoid! :-))

Apart from anything else, why on earth does the /98 version support RV but not others? (/98 is the Philippines it seems?)

i know it because i m from hong kong using a /98 :) /98 is asia version and this format has been very popular for years in asia... those mp3/ mp4 in asia supports rmvb as well...it's like a "must-have" format here...

i can observe that this case happens a few times... Philips guy ll respond to the "feedback" in the forum quite quickly, especially when it's real misleading or real wrong information before they have an instant response in the forum...i actually agree with you... a sorry message may be needed...

Hi neilski,

Thanks for your query. The rm and rmvb format are just supported in the /98 version Blu-ray players.

We are currently working on the general codec table (in both forum and FAQ site), to add remarks on such exceptions.

Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Kind regards,

OK, thanks for the update Remko. (And thanks also kwinnie for the background info.)
