View Full Version : Some of the subtitle files can't be recognized

Hi, All:

I am using Removable Hard Disk with USB interface for watching some of the video files with .MKV extention.

The subtitles of those videos come with .SRT extention files.

I found for some videos, the SRT file can be recognized and displayed correctly by pressing the Subtitle button from remote controller. However the other videos, although the subtitles files are also present, those couldn't be recognized by 9600. (Phenomenon was that pressing Subtitle button it showed Denied logo by 9600 player)

Can anybody tell me what is the criteria what kind of SRT files can be recognized?

Note, all the SRT files I used are valid and can be displayed on PC using Windows app.

Did you put them in exactly the same folder as the movie and not in any other?

Hi,

check, if the SRT files are in UTF-8 format (you can easily change that with e.g. notepad++).

Yes, I put the .SRT file under the same directory as movie file. As you can see, I did successfully make some .SRT file displayed.

check, if the SRT files are in UTF-8 format (you can easily change that with e.g. notepad++).

Thanks, Toengel! This helps. However still I can not make all the subtitle work. It seems one of my MKV file embedded with subtitle however it is empty(nothing showed). In this case, the external SRT couldn't be used. ( It works fine with my PC)

Another case was that the SRT file contains Chinese subtitles, I tried both Unicode and UTF-8, none of them worked.

But it did help me on some movies.

9600 or 9000 series has poor support of Big5 chinese character set. Note your SRT could be in UTF-8 coding already. The stupid players just can't handle the Big5 character subset of chinese words properly.

This is even obvious of missing character on player Menu.
It's shit. A piece of crap in terms of firmware quality.
