View Full Version : BDP 3200 / 12 Mediaplayer is not detecting 24Hz/24p/ Sources. Plays 60 HZ instead

The BDP 3200 / 12 Mediaplayer ( European ) is not detecting 24p/24HZ Sources like Xvid,MKV, Mp4 accurate.

It plays 60 HZ NTSC instead alltime :( no matter what source it is.

I use several Mediaplayers like the Xtreamer Sidewinder 2 and the WDTV Live HD ( FW 1.04.22 ) who all detect if a Source has 24 HZNTSC / 24p H264, 50 HZ PAL, 60 HZ NTSC "autmatically" and also displays
such Framerate/ Refreshrates flawless on the TVs i have.

Those are 2x LG32 LE 5300 edged LED TVS using HDMI.

Whatever i feed the BDP 3200 / 12 FW 1.66 Mediaplayer with having 23,9xx Frames NTSC or 24 P H264 it plays at 60 HZ NTSC which looks horrible wrong and stutters like hell. It does wrong from USB and also if i copy MKV, Xvid,MP4 to a Data DVD.

Working is the DVD / Blu Ray Playback.
Here it detects the 50Hz Pal /60Hz NTSC /24 Hz Blu Rays flawless alltime and also on the TV the accurate Framerate is displayed/played without any stutters.

I have all Video settings to HDMI AUTO.

Even if i change to 1080p/24 HZ manually in the Video Settings the Philips Menu then shows 24p on my TV first Place .

Once i play any 24Hz Media if Xvid or 24p H264 MKV / MP4 it still plays with 60 HZ which is entirely wrong.
If i then stop the Playback the Dsiplay is also showing at 60 Hz until i power off on again.

My TV sure supports 24p and even my old Philips "DVD" PLayer plays Xvid 24 HZSources flawless and autodetects
it alltime if i switch from 29,x Frames Vob to 23,9x Frames Xvid back to 25 Frames and so on.

All Sources i have tested are accurate made 25 HZ, or 24Hz Sources which all other Mediaplayers detect like a charm.
I also tried different cables and different HDMI Ports without any changes.

I also did Factory Resets without any changes.

Its same behave with supported Profiles
The BDP 3200/12 integrated Mediaplayer always plays 24 HZ MKV/MP4 and NTSC XviD Sources with the wrong 60 HZ

Xvid Profiles are not even listed in this Excel Sheet

Fact is that the Player is not working correct with NTSC Xvid 23,9xx Frames and H264/Mp4 24p Profiles

Even the FActs Sheet shows it supports XviD

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/A1Hnn7kLWdS.pdf

If the Levels were unsupported ( H264 Low Profiles and so on the Player wouldnt even play them usually.

I really think this Codec sheet is not accurate Updated.

Hi Azumi,

Thanks for your sample videos.

We are currently looking into your issue.

Regards,

Philips - QK

Dear users,

Yes, we support xvid.
The issue to us is about playing back content with 24Hz (24p) and that you are always getting 60Hz. We support 24Hz/24p but the output to HDMI will vary depending on the HDMI setting in the menu and also the capability of the TV.

• If BDP HDMI setting is set to “Manual”, it will output 24Hz/24p to TV if it is set to 1080p/24Hz.
• If BDP HDMI setting is set to “Auto”, it will check the EDID of the TV, if the TV support 1080p/24Hz, then it will output as such.

Otherwise, our players will always output 60Hz as mentioned. We advise to check these options and come back to us your testing results.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused to you.

Kind regards,
Philips Moderation Team

The DVD/ Blu Ray Framerate Detection works like a charm.
Thats why i always luv Philps DVD and Blu Ray Players.
They are Quality Hardware.

50 HZ Pal plays 50 HZ Pal ( Also displayed on the TV)
60 HZ NTSC Plays 60 HZ ( Also displayed on the TV )
24Hz Blu Rays play 24 HZ (Also displayed on the TV)

The issue is a "Mediaplayer" only Problem like i noticed.
It does again NOT affect the Blu Ray Playback.

I do not see this Problems in my TV since all Mediaplayers i use, also the elder Philips DVD Players detect a Hz change flawless.

If you still do not believe me that my TV is able to play 24p
here are the facts

Hi,

my BDP 3280 is having the same error. When playing videos with the mediaplayer it's switching to 60hz no matter what framerate the files have.

When will an update become available?

i m not quite understand the issue here.
isn't 60hz somewhat better?
do you see a downgrade in picture quality for this?

It is a huge difference if a Video which usually has to be played with 23,9x ( 24 Frames ) is faulty played with 30 Frames second. Its stutterly like crazy and looks UGLY.

:)

It looks like if you see a car moving from right to left and someone has cutted out pictures, so the car doesnt moves smooth anymore.
