Hello Philips and other readers,

I have installed the 140.046 version and these are my findings.
- Sound-drops on HD channels with Dolby Digital 5.1 sound: NOT fixed.
- NetTV access problem: NOT fixed.

In short, nothing has changed since my previous posts.

Dirk,

I am afraid your NetTV access will not be solved by any FW release.
I had this same problem (get stuck in NetTV registration menu scrolling the conditions) and have been on the phone with Philips Service 2 times trying everything they came up with.
Finally they sent over a technician, who first tried to fix it, then did a factory reset and installed new software. Same problem. Finally he replaced the main board to fix it !
So I think you have to call Philips and ask for a technician to come to your house...

Niels

Thanks Niels,
I called Philips service a couple of days a go. Now I'm waiting for response by phone or e-mail. Since it is Christmas time, it will be next year to hear from Philips again I guess.

I hope hardware replacement will fix both my NetTV access and the sound-drop problem.

HI,

Dirk, did you unplug your TV for 2-3 minutes from the power supply? Often that helps... With which device do you have sound drops? How is this device connected?

Hi, Toengel

I turn off the TV every night using the hardware TV switch. So, there is a timespan of at least 8 hours for the TV to get rid of any remaining electronic charge. The TV is connected to a Yamaha receiver (RX-V1500) using the S/PDIF connector and a good quality Profigold digital coax. More details are described in my first post. I can also add that sound-drops do not occur when avi or mkv files with 5.1 sound are played over the network.
Dirk.

Ambilight is gone after the update.

The option is there, but does not work. If I try to select the color of the lights, it will turn on, but only white light, and only while I'm selecting the color, after I exit that option, it will fade out. It will turn on with Scenea, but only white light, when I get out of Scenea the ambilight will fade out too.

Also, if you go to the "wall color" option, the squares of the colors are there, but not the colors, they're all black.

I've downloaded the firmware again, re-installed many times, unplugged the power cord to let it "reset", also reverted to the factory settings using the menu, nothing helped.

Triple checked that the firmware is for my TV, 40PFL6615D/78.

Hope that they don't wait months to release a new firmware to fix it, the Ambilight is the only reason that I bought this TV :(

I bought my 42pfl5405h/12 in January 2010 (worst decision ever) andhave been waiting for a firmware since then to enable subtitles via usb port. I really had a feeling Philips team would deliver this with this new firmware...but yet again - nothing. I want to tear apart my tv every time I think about it - could've bought a Samsung, nice media player, not to mention DTS, but no, I foolishly went with reliable Philips. I have a breat collection of hd video files (legal, of course) but my younger brother is hearing impaired so it's no good for him if there are no subs. Highly dissapointed in Philips for making me buy a media player because of their own inability to deliver a decent one built into the tv.

Question: HDMI (1) ARC too working correctly?

Sorry, couldn't test it as all my devices are connected via hdmi and i use coaxial digital out from tv to my logitech speakers...

Not a single sound drop in last 72 hours (since flashed .140.46) and no knocking on any uncompressed source (i listen to FLAC only from my NAS and it was very bad with .140.44).
I dont see any difference on picture quality (i was very happy with it from day 1). Remuxed MKV via my MED500X are PERFECT on 1080p 24 > 60. Same thing with BDs from my BDP3000.

Hallo,

first of all, sorry for my bad english :-(

My problems are motion artifacts on HD programs like (ARD HD) on an Technisat S1+ over HDMI.
Sometimes i can see artifacts on motions.

Anybody can confirm this?

Thanks
phil_led

sound in this time is good - no problem at all, but there is a problem with Net TV - every time I start it and when connecting to Net always appear Register Step Application and I think internet loads slower - aplications in Net TV work slowly, before update its connected and worked with no problem. Next I've seen with working with newest firmware is worse picture view - more macroblocks.

140.44 in my 9705H/12 caused sound-drops on TV speakers with DD sound, distortion on both speakers & SPDIF, and distortion with PS3 games (both stereo & DD).
140.45 fixed the issues with movies, but the issue with the PS3 remained.
140.46 seems to has fix everything introduced with 140.44. 140.40 had sound-drops from SPDIF (I don't know about ARC), and I think that 140.46 has reduced these sound-drops (not completely eliminated them - but I think its better than 140.40).

Hi dears,

Plus 1 for the club
I update my 40PFL8605D/78 without read the review trusting that version 000 140 046 would improve but not worsen the problems...
Finally the symptoms are the same as reported here, just did not feel the problem with the sound because I use a HDMI HTS3541/78-ARC.
I and many other Brazilian consumers are very disappointed with this lack of consideration of the Philips (or blames to the new AOC policies)?
The Ambilight stop working ... It unutterable, in fact, these should be the greetings of Christmas and Chinese New Year of the Philips.
Anyway chatting with Philips Customer Support, they informed me that are aware but no estimate for a fix!

Ambilight disable is quite revolting as Harley Davidson customers without the engine roar, before out of the dealership:
In this review, we turn the noise off / muffled, and have no estimate of when his Harley will have snoring again....

Well, Happy New Year with great Good Health, Love, Peace and Prosperity!
That our Philips devices work properly and return to have the Dutch quality.

Problems with the firmware v0.140.46.0:

I have a tv model 42PFL7655H/12, a sound bar HTS5110/12, and a PS3. When I turn up the PS3, the tv´s remote control doesn´t recognize by the system PS3, and I can´t control the PS3 with the remote controler. Finaly, when I turn off the PS3, I have the same problem with the soundbar, I can´t control the sound bar with the tv´s remote control.

I think that this is a problem with the HDMI-CEC.

Jerome,

This problem is going to become serious. I have had this problem myself and read it on this forum a couple of times.
The only solution that Philips has provided me is sending a technician that replaced the main board, after all checks, sw updates and resets had failed to solve the problem.
Unfortunately I am now suffering from auto-reboots....

I do not think Philips will post updated 140.46 SW under the same number. How do you conclude that this 140.46 is different from the version you installed before (and I do not mean the TV behaviour, but did you compare file size and date?).
I think it is more likely something went wrong with your first installation.

Today I became this problem

I just look HD over my receiver S1+. Then i watched some videos over NET TV, after switching to my receiver again, the tv message "no signal" on HDMI.
Power off (Powercable) the TV for 30 minutes.... but the massage was "no signal"

S1+ power off for 20 Minutes and the message was "no signal".

S1+ connected over scart brings a picture with lots of fractales.
The menu text has very much bricks

They did, but all of sudden they rolled it back to the release of 23 December, I don't know why. With the "updated" .46, Ambilight is back, no audio issues so far (have tested only playing on my Xbox360).

The new file was last modified 05 January, I was surprised when the TV displayed .46 version.

I'm 300% that me previous installation was correct, but yet, Ambilight was not working. Downloaded the file 3 times, installed 4 or 5 times, tried to factory reset and unplug the power cord over the night to let it "reset". Nothing worked.

A lot of brazilian consumers have the same issue with the 23 December's .46 version, I wasn't alone =)

After surfing in NetTV, the TV was 20 minutes in Standby. An now all four HDMI inputs are inactiv. My TV says me, that my S1+ and my Mediaplayer give "no signal".

The German ZIP downloaded today is the same as the one from 23.12. :-(

Update
a 6 year old Grundig LCD brings a picture over HDMI. The 37pfl7605H12 brings only "no signal".

Hello from Greece and happy new year.

Before 1 week updated my tv (via usb stick ) to the latest software ( Version : 000.140.046.000 ). After that i have the issue below : Metallic sound heard via HDMI connection and TV has clicking sound while watching a connected device via HDMI connection. :(

Is there any way to reflash again the latest software ? I put the file "autorun.upg" to the root directory of my USB flash

After some weeks of testing I can confirm that this new version on my Econova 42PFL6805H/12 connected to the digital HD decoder ( CISCO 8485DVB MPEG-4 HD Digital Recorder) from the Belgian TV cable company Voo (www.voo.be), connected via HDMI:

1- solved the lips/image sync problem
2- almost solved every audio drops, some are still there but rare and of few milliseconds (before there were several drops of some seconds!)

So we are getting close Philips... please continue in this direction, I am sure you can solve everything with a proper firmware!

PS: for your information your technicians at the Belgian Philips support center (tel. 0800 80 190 ) were telling me for several months that the sound drops problem could not be solved by firmware and that the issue was not the TV, but the CISCO decoder provided by the company VOO... now with this firmware update you have demonstrated the incompetence of the technicians at the Belgian Philips support center!!

NetTV fix :)
Finely I was called this week by Philips-Support with a solution to my NetTV connection problem. No engineer was needed at home, some instructions were sufficient. I don't understand why Philips does not post this information, they should do it. The steps in a nutshell:
1) Downgrade to version 0.140.34
2) Goto NetTV and register again following the TV instructions. Using this firmware version, you will get past the terms and condition dialogue.
3) Upgrade back to version 0.140.46 (latest).

Sound-drops remain :(
Sadly, Philips refused to replace hardware to fix the sound-drop problem. Since newer models do also have the Dolby Digital sound bug, they think that replacement will not fix the problem. Again I (and we all) have to wait for another firmware release.

kosmasgr
01-19-2012, 08:54 AM
1. Philips correctly does not post your information about NETTV fix after engineer visited your home , because downgrading without professional philips engineer can possibly damaged our TVs ;)

2. Propably sound-drop is a software issue , no hardware.

All waiting new firmware

I encounter the same problem. Since I updated my TV to 46 my X-Box 360 tends to use "max visible picture" and it simply cuts off parts of the picture until I tell it to use no zoom at all.

In addition my ARC is very unreliable. Sometimes it works just perfect and sometimes (without touching any settings or cables) the TV only says "Failure. Using internal speaker" (or something like that). I reset both, my receiver and my TV to factory defaults but that didn't help either. I just got my Yamaha-Receiver last Friday so I can't say anything about the behavior with a previous version.

NOT SOLVED: Audio drop outs with digital (optical) out of 42PFL6805/H

I'm still experiencing frequent audio drop outs on connected audio devices (Bose via optical converter from coax digital out, Denon via optical converter from coax digital out as well as directly from coax digital out).

The drop outs appear every few minutes or so, sometimes they are only a few seconds apart, then no drop outs for another five minutes and so on. The drop out time is just a few seconds (one to three seconds).

There are no drop outs in the picture or the audio of the TV itself.

Due to the fact that different audio equipment behaves the same when connected to the TV, it is definetly a problem with the Philips TV.

Hi,

I have a 42PFL6805H/12 TV and searched a lot for my problem.
I have a PS3 connected to HDMI2 and a STB via scart.
As the sound output of the tv was insufficient, and i had a 5.1 dts receiver laying around with speakers, i thought i could use digital surround.
As i'm frightened about the display lag of the tv during PS3 games, i used the spdif digital output of the tv as input of the receiver. This way the tv adds the audio lag, as selected in menu(?) and also normal tv and the audio of the STB is directed to the receiver.

This should work fine in theory, but i'm wondering if there is any difference between the original PS3 optical output (SPDIF) or HDMI audio output -> TV -> SPDIF digital coaxial.

If i use the optical digital output of the PS3 to the receiver then the audio isn't lagged by the tv, and i could experience sync problems. No choice.

Is there any downside to use the spdif output of the tv?

I also experienced problems playing mp3's on the ps3, i think it was reffered to as metallic sound. It sounded like the audio sync was incorrect and adjusted continously, eg clipping?
The 140.46 update fixxed this.

Only problem left: if i use the tv remote to control the ps3 it gets "skipped", one normal touch right on the remote translates to 2 clicks right in the ps3 menu.
i have to tap the key on the remote to get it to only skip once in the menu.

DVB-T reception of Polish SD channels is still far from perfect, i.e. movement is not smooth (best visible on scrolls, e.g. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80PLsHrRVmo ) and temporary blackouts still decrease viewing experience :-).

TV model: 37PFL5405H/12 (but others report the same issue with 5605H/12). Signal Strength ca. 90% and Quality 100% which is more than enough to properly render a DVB-T stream for any other DVB-T receivers, I've ever tested.

Any hope this will be fixed or do I have to get a wired connection with the transmitter? :-) DVB-C works well as far as I've tested it.

Some sounddrops are motherboard related!!!! I think this software is fine now and the software is no issue what so over when it goes about the sounddrops.
People who do have sounddrops with this software should contact the servicedesk of Philips or the shop where they bought the tv!!!!!!!!!!!

I think Philips now must concentrate on other wishes:
- Nox/next when zapping
- Finally the right opera=-browser so HbbTV works for the 2010-models
- A complete IP-EPG in the Netherlands (now only 10% of the channels have EPG!!!)

My TV have the lastest firmware (140.46).
I have a 32PFL5405H connected to my set top box (Freebox Revolution) of the french ISP "Free" through an HMDI cable of 1.5 meter.
The definition is set to auto so maximum is taken by default (1080p, 50 or 60Hz).

The set top box is also connected to an A/V amplifier through an optical cable.

When i have a drops it appends in this way:
A blackscreen with no sound for 1-2 seconds , but NO message like "signal lost" or something like that
The video come back, but the audio not yet. The audio come back after 1 or 2 seconds more.

It appends totally randomly.

Thanks

42PFL5405H/12 with FW v0.140.46.0

The TV will not decrypt protected channels at random. Sometimes flipping channels is enough, other times turning tv off and on again is required.

Using CI+ module and chipcard from BoxerTV denmark. Specially the danish channel TV2 is a problem.

Another thing, have you used google translate to translate the tv's menu text? When the TV is unable to decrypt a channel it says, directly translated: "Mixed channel".

Sound drops still occur (less frequently than older firmwares, but still there)...

In my opinion sound/video problems on TV are unacceptable. How can they even consider releasing a TV in which even main functions don't work. I would count that as a manufacturing defect.
I don't believe that Philips engineers actually use any of the products that they are working on.

1. 32PFL5605H/12 belongs to the discontinued products?
YES or NO
2. Future firmware releases?
YES or NO
3. The issue I already mentioned should be software-based, so I will kindly ask if this gonna be fixed, if yes, when?

Hi J.K. :)

In answer to your questions:

The 32PFL5605H/12 is no longer manufactured, that is true, but we do still offer full support for it :)

There are no current plans for software releases for this television, as there have been no major issues reported that a software update would fix. The issue you report with your NVIDIA card is not unfortunately going to be fixed in a software update from Philips at any point. Please note that most NVIDIA card manuals clearly state that there will be a compatibility issue between them and Philips televisions, resulting in a complete loss of audio when connected via HDMI :(

Further to this, as your television is in fact working to specification, your local Philips support will not be liable to replace your television under warranty.

Best wishes,

^Rafe

Rafe,

In my opinion the spontaneous resets of my TV that I experience almost every day can not be part of 'working to specification', so if there will be no FW update that solves this issue, I will contact Philips for a warranty replacement.

By the way, I cannot believe that you write "there have been no major issues reported that a software update would fix". This means that
a) Philips is completely ignoring the complaints at customer service and on this forum or
b) this problem is not a SW but a HW problem. In that case I want new HW.

Hi Niels,

Sorry to see you've been having problems with your television :(

I was referring to the problems that J.K. was having with his NVIDIA card. This is simply an issue of compatibility between the two products.

If you are experiencing a similar problem, and are not using an NVIDIA card, then this is something I could definitely look into for you, if you want to give me some more information regarding the problem you're having? :)

First of all, thanks for your quick response.
As of compatibility issue you're talking about, I'm glad to inform you that 2D applications working by default with INTEL HD GRAPHICS!
I've already wrote, I have OPTIMUS notebook, which means, nVidia GT540 combined with Intel HD 3000 graphics.
The problem I've described happens with both configurations (in BIOS I'm able to set if I'm going to use just Intel or just nVidia graphics)
As you said that there are no current plans for new software simply because there is nothing to fix and we all are satisfied and complaining just because we have nothing better to do, I will downgrade and test all the firmwares before december releases (were buggy after all) and I am pretty much sure the issue will also occur with another notebook (with ATi - AMD graphics).

Not to mention extremely slow software compared to other manufacture products from 2010, I will concentrate just on bugs with HDMI and loss of picture and sound:

I am the owner of the model 42PFL5405H. When upgrade from factory firmware 0.72.24.0 to 0.140.25.0, deteriorated image quality (wrote about it earlier).
After your post

hopes of correcting this situation not remains. But I still want to ask, is it right that when I connect the flash drive with firmware to TV, TV automatically NOT switched off and the screen stays black for 10 seconds, as described in the instructions, but immediately began to upgrade and continue in background showing live TV? And if it is wrong, what can I try to do?
Thanks.

Sorry for English - just software translator

Hi gidagap,

I can confirm that what you're experiencing with the software update is not normal. The update is not supposed to commence over live television.

Has this happened every time you try?

It may be necessary for you to speak with your local Philips team and have this looked at. If you tell me where you are, I can get their details for you if needs be :)

never heared of such a thing, after the upgrade is finished, does the tv work?
press while watching TV 123654 on page no. 2 you can see the actual fw level, does it state the old or new one?
short: if it works even if it does not look right, who cares? ;)

Hello Philips - Rafe.
Judging by your Join Date to this forum you are new here. You relay should do more research in older forum posts before saying "...there have been no major issues reported that a software update would fix." People are raging about decreasing picture quality since FW 0.140.23.0. That was 2 years ago. Software update could fix that problem because it produced it. Everyone agree that picture quality was best with FW 0.140.23.0. There were many requests for links to old FW. Why is Philips so against offering old FW, if it was better than the current one. One could argue that other things were fixed in later FW releases. But as you can see, the biggest problem (the sound problem) was newer fixed. Some people speculated that Philips is decreeing picture quality on purpose, to force people to buy new TVs. Programmers can't be that dumb to not notice it. How can you be so sloppy. I bought no name Cinese DVB-T decoder for old CRT TV. There was FW update for it. When that company saw that it causes proplems to custumers, they add an option to downgrade until they fix it. If a no name Chinese company know how to treat their customers, how come that you don't.
So 2010 model TVs have problems with picture quality and sound quality, what else could be wrong with a TV?

Hi 5er,

By now everybody noticed that Philips has abandoned the 2010 models completely. There are no new software updates since a very long time. The last "major" update was for some flaw in the Ukraine or something like that. The sound and picture problems aren't "major" enough !
So I think it's better to stop asking for updates, they (Philips) don't listen to 2010 model problems anymore.

Philips, please react if I am wrong ! No reaction means "Yes, you are right. No more updates for 2010 models."

Just on the news here: Philips has (again) to fire 2200 workers ! So we all can forget new software for our 2010 models....

Hi,

please be careful what you are saying. Philips has many departments (healthcare, lighting, consumer lifestyle). As far as I understood is, that they "reduce" in these areas the workers. TVs are now in the new company called "TP Vision"...

Correct, but the service since hasn't improved. I am very frustated that Philips neglect and ignored their customers. Their CEO self stated that they are fighting against competitors and that they want to be a company in the next 100 years that matters. Mister van Houten (CEO) doesn't read this forum though....

So you are telling me (and the rest at this forum) that the Philips TV we bought not the responsibility is of Philips ? That we must complain by TP Vision ? So why it's still saying "supportforum.philips.com" at the top of my browser ? As long as the TV's are sold by Philips, branded as Philips, supported by Philips, Philips is responsible and therefore mr. van Houten is responsible !

Hi,

just take a look at tpvision.de or tpvision.nl or whatever... you will find the CEOs ;-)

Mmmm.... Have you seen tpvison engineers (or CEO's) in this forum ? No ? Why ? Oh, it is a Philips TV. Makes sense, buying a Audi and asking service and/or complaining at Seat.......

Hi gidagap,

Sorry for the delays in responding to you. It seems strange that you've been told that the issue you're experiencing is "normal".

The television shouldn't continue playing in the background when you're updating the software.

Did you contact your local team using this link? : http://www.philips.by/index.page?locale_org=ie_en

Hi gidagap

You will get service guys from Belarus in trouble. They are just being honest. They are tired of fixing TVs that are fundamentally broken fresh from the factory.
I am sorry Rafe. But if programmers can't fix sound problems in more than 5 tempts, in span of more than 1 year. Then there is a good chase, that there is something wrong with the hardware design. Picture quality was degraded with FW updates. You just broke it yourself on purpose.

Yes, and still no full HbbTV-support. I guess on purpose to...

Philips want us to buy the 2012-device. But guess what: I will never ever buy a Philips tv again. I am very very disappointed in Philips in the way I am treated as a customer that has spend loads of money for their tv!

Hi gidagap,

Although the issue you're experiencing isn't supposed to occur, can you let me know whether you have tried to update again, and what the version of software on your television currently is?

You can find out by pressing 123654 on the remote when the television is on.

I really would advise again that you contact the Philips team in Belarus once more, and try and find a solution to this with them - they may be able to arrange for someone to take a look at the television for you.

Best regards,

^Rafe

My model 37PFL5405H, 2 year ones the television.
Will not be to this more firmwares developments already?
From the TV set the ARC sound (HDMI1 - Philips Easylink function) is tattered invariably and continuously... :(
