So I bought a Philips 40PFL4706 and the sound is horrible. 20 W? ridiculous! I can't hear it over my own breathing. The picture is great the but sound is a joke. Anyway, I bought a home theater to remedy the sound problem. The home theater system has a dvd player which connects directly to all the speakers and a subwoofer. I have a cable box that connects to the TV via a coax cable (cable box doesn't have HDMI but I am getting an HDMI cable box soon). My idea was to transmit both the sound and video (via coax) from the cable box to the TV. Then, from the TV, transmit the sound to external spakers via RCA yellow and red cables. Unfortunately, it hasn't worked. I'm also thinking long term, when I get my HD box, how will I send the audio to my DVD player (which sends audio to speakers)? As far as I can tell, if I had an HDMI going from the cable box to the TV, that would transmit both video and sound to the TV. But how would I get it to go from the TV to speakers??
Any help would be highly appreciated. My home theatre system can accept HDMI too. Also, I am able to plug RCA red and yellow directly into the cable box and transmit sound to the DVD player, to the speakers, while the coax from the cable box it transmitting picture to the TV. That works but I have to turn on/off both the DVD player and the TV if I want picture and sound to be On/Off... It shouldn't have to be that way. I shouldn't have to use two seperate outputs from the cable box, RCA and coax, going to the external speakers and TV respectively. I should be transmitting both video and audio from the cable box to the TV, then sound from the TV to external speakers.
So to summarize everything: how come I can't transmit an audio signal from my TV via RCA to my external speakers?
