Can Philips TVs handle 23.976 without stuttering?

Hey,

I'm thinking about getting an 8-series 2011 TV and have a question about 23.976 support without pulldown and stuttering. I emailed Philips a while back and it took them several weeks to come to the conclusion that they do support it, however there is a thread on the forum that claims otherwise:

What is the final verdict on this? HTPC people like myself will spend time and money to match that frequency down to the sixth decimal or so and we will notice if the TV doesn't comply.

Also, how is the situation with other frame rates, like 50Hz (normal terrestrial TV broadcasts) for instance? Any funny pulldown and stuttering going on there?

Hi,

how should that work without pulldown? There aren't panels availalbe which have a multiple frequency of 23.976. So pulldown is always necessary... One always needs some image processing to display a 23.976 movie stutter-free on e.g. 100 Hz or 200 Hz panels.

I have no idea how it is supposed to work. I just know that some plasma panels can do this stutter free. No idea what sort of processing is involved. Some panels however, like Panasonic, can't handle 50Hz flawlessly. So it's a tradeoff clearly.

Do YOU notice any stuttering on your specific model?

Never used an LCD TV before so I am sure there will be a number of nasty surprises ahead regardless. I bought a Panasonic G30 Plasma a while back (never used a plasma either) and it turns out I can see RBE (the rainbow effect). Had to return it. Some incredibly bad luck there ... also, can apparently see motion trailing on LCD monitors where the majority of people see none. Just saying. Perhaps I wont see any stuttering regardless (again, some people claim not to see it), perhaps it will be an enormous problem.

on my TV (2010 21:9) I did not noticed any stuttering at all... So, I'm happy regarding 24p playback ;-)

on my 9705 there is no stuttering at all but there is some motion judder

Ok. Thanks for the input. All I can do is try one then I suppose, when the prices come down.
