Hi,

I have one major issue with the player. When I play a video file using a USB hard drive, the player output signal is PAL instead of NTSC. This is because the video is PAL and the player change its output mode. I'm using RCA, I don't know for HDMI. I'd like an update which will add an option to force the video output signal to NTSC.

I also have two minor issues :

- When a file is compressed under NTFS, the player hangs. I'm not trying to play it, it hangs just because the file is there. It should ignore it.

- When a video file is a 3D video, the player hangs. It should display the usual message "Video file format not supported".

Thank you.

Ok, no answer in the forum. No collaboration from Philips phone support. No update since 2011, after I reported the issues. Forget it, I'll try to sell this toy and buy something serious from a serious company which make updates for reported issues. Thanks alot.

looking in the supported model list, this model is not in there. some users posted for similar products as well. then seems they will be referred to contact country support.

suggest you try out the chat service in ur country? this service is real helpful for me.

Thank kninnie,

I have bought this product at december 2011. I have already contacted them and they repeatly told me that "this feature is not supported". I have the dream to develop an application for them, me doing the same after the release . I'm a developper.

Yes, the worst is they already gived it with their DVD players (what I've learned from other forums). And also about NTFS file system with compressed files and 3D video files. For the latests, I just don't want my player to hang and search for a week what is the problem like I did the first time.

It's not about new features, it's about bug fixes. Please read attentively what I've reported.

Thank you.

Welcome sickle! Your request has been directed to the Video (DVD/Blu-Ray/Home Theater) department. Please wait for our operator to answer your call.

Call accepted by operator Johnne. Currently in room: Johnne, sickle.

Johnne:
Thank you for contacting Philips. Please give me a moment to review your question.
Johnne:
Regarding the PAL issue, is the content you're trying to play natively recorded using the PAL standard?
sickle:
I don't know, it's videos comming from email
sickle:
I've checked and the video is really PAL
Johnne:
What kind of file are you trying to play?
sickle:
avi
Johnne:
If you play a regular DVD or Blu-Ray, is it displayed in the PAL format?
sickle:
no, because they are NTSC
Johnne:
If the content in your AVI files was originally encoded using PAL standards, the most you would be able to do to would be to use your TV to zoom or scale the content you're trying to display.
sickle:
the problem is, when something is PAL, the player change its output mode to PAL and the only way to come back to NTSC is to find another video which is NTSC, then it switches back to NTSC
Johnne:
You're trying to view PAL sources in NTSC dimensions?
sickle:
you don't understand : PAL and NTSC are video output sgnals, not dimensions
sickle:
when PAL, the image flip from bottom to top and become black and white. my TV is NTSC
Johnne:
So PAL flips the image upside down?
sickle:
i don't know if I've used the good word in english, but in french is "saute"
sickle:
jump
sickle:
the image jump from bottom to top, and is black and white because the signal is PAL and my TV is NTSC, it's simple not ?
Johnne:
And these are the AVI files that cause this?
sickle:
just PAL ones
sickle:
I'd like an update which will add an option to force the video output signal to NTSC.
sickle:
Normally, every players offer this option
Johnne:
I don't think there is an update that would solve this problem. Your player recognizes both PAL and NTSC signals. I think your only option would be to connect your player to a PAL television.
sickle:
i can't do it, it's not an option. i will need two tvs ! you just have to make an update
sickle:
Normally, every players offer this option. The player is updatable from a USB stick
Johnne:
You can also update via the network, it may solve this issue.
sickle:
no update has been released to fix this issue. i'm telling you this issue to make an update !
Johnne:
Have you applied the most recent update?
sickle:
yes
Johnne:
I will make a note of your request to have this issue addressed in future software updates.
sickle:
thanks alot. how many times does it will take ?
Johnne:
There is not set timeframe for firmware updates. When a common issue is discovered in a product, the update usually follows shortly.
Johnne:
Is there anything else I can assist you with today?
sickle:
no, thank you. I'm a little bit deceived because it makes 4 months that I'm waiting for a fix
sickle:
sorry, disappointed
Johnne:
Thank you for contacting Philips. Hope you have a great day.

Sorry Philips, but I'm selling my player and I'll buy a mini-PC instead ! I'll never buy a player again. File formats are limited, PAL/NTSC problems, limited system file support, no bug fixes on reported issues, we can't hope enhancements on the firmware ... It's not just about you, it's about every makers. I'll wait until one of you will make something better.
