View Full Version : 40PFL5206H/12 : flicker when connecting a WinXP PC over HDMI

Is the 40PFL5206H/12 able to receive a 1080p60 signal coming from a PC over HDMI, without generating flicker ?

Serial Number is SN1A1148018871.
Paid 499 eur in a Krefel retail shop in Belgium (Brussels) in January 2012.

I am entering the 1080p60 signal coming from the PC using the side HDMI input.
I am using the "PC mode".
You won't notice the flicker when the screen is dark.
The flicker becomes noticeable and annoying when the screen is white like using Word or Excel.
The flicker is really there, because when I change my PC video settings to 1080p50 (configuration panel, display), there is no flicker anymore, you immediately perceive the difference.
Unfortunately, I cannot use the 1080p50 setting when viewing all my movies that are stored on my PC. The travellings rendering is terribly bad, compared to the 1080p60 setting.

What parameter in the TV do I need to change ?
Is there a TV firmware upgrade ?

My 40PFL5206H/12 is currently running :
Main Software TPM62E 2.18
Standby SW 0.17
Panel Code 142
NVM-version V1.3

On the retail box of the 40PFL5206H/12 it reads "100 Hz Perfect Motion Rate For flicker free motion". Therefore, knowing I need to connect the TV on my PC over HDMI outputting a 1080p60 signal, and reassured by the 100 Hz reference, I bought Philips with great confidence.
If it shows that the 40PFL5206H is generating flicker on a 1080p60 HDMI source, I will ask exchanging my set against another better one in the Philips range, only paying the required supplement.
Because of the objectively observing "anoying flicker on all 1080p60 sources even when there is no motion". Because what the retail box says is a lie. I still have the purchase invoice and the retail box. Would they have said on the retail box "PMR 100 for flicker free motion" there would have been less lying (no explicit reference to Hz). Anyway, if the issue can't be solved, I should never buy Philips anymore.

Actually according to the law, I may be entitled to be refunded in full, without buying again from Philips.

Any advice appreciated, for persuading this TV set to absorb a 1080p60 signal on HDMI in "PC mode" without generating flicker. Otherwise, it'll be war.

Hi and Welcome to the Forum Steph,

Optimal Setting is allways 60Hz.
However, most of the Picture enhancements Settings are disabled in PC Mode as you have a Graphics Card which should output the Picture as best as possible.

Good to know would be if that happens only on 1080p but also on 720p or on 1280x1024?

best Regards

best Regards Thomas I just tried on two different computers. One running WinXP and one other running Windows 7. Flicker is there using HDMI at 60 Hz when configuring the PC for all resolutions like 1280x720, 1280x1024, 1366x768 and 1920x1080. Tried all those resolutions. Flicker is not there when configuring the computer for outputting 50 Hz video.
