View Full Version : Is there any way I can control my MCI500H other than the supplied remote?

Hi all

I am new to this forum and have been brought here by the total frustration caused by the fact that the remote control supplied with the unit is dreadful when it comes to searching for an individual track for example or even an artist or album. The alpha numberic keypad is clumsy and you need to be a few inches away from the minute screen to be able to see what you are typing and/or looking for. I was overjoyed to find there was an android app available to use on my Samsung Galaxy but I have since discovered that this is not supported on the MCi500H nor is it going to be. I have around 1000 albums ripped to the hard drive and the unit is otherwise great so I do not want to upgrade it at this point in time.

Is there any way at all I can control it via my home network (which the MCi is linked to) for example via a tablet with some kind of app on it? WADM is also hopeless and does not offer any kind of search facility (that I can find anyway).

PLEASE can somebody help? I am happy to purchase other peripherals if required to be able to do this.

Yours hopefully

from my experience there are some apps out there, for example plugplayer and media:connect (for iOS) that can somehow control the mci500h. However, this is often very shaky and I think searching for a specific title is also not supported.
Sorry for not giving you any hope, maybe anybody else has a better solution?!

Hi Taim

Thank you very much for your response, it is much appreciated. I do hope somebody else has a solution but I am beginning to think that upgrading to a different unit is my only option which of course is what Philips would like us to do of course. Shame the myremote app is not supported by the MCI500.

If anybody else has any other ideas then please let me know

Thanks again Taim

Hi !

In short, any decent UPnP-application will work with your MCi500H (which BTW is fully UPnP certified).
I can recommend the following two applications (I am using them on my Samsung Galaxy S2) :
Skifta (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.skifta.android.app&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5za 2lmdGEuYW5kcm9pZC5hcHAiXQ..)
Twonky (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pv.twonkyremote&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5wd i50d29ua3lyZW1vdGUiXQ..)

Cheers !
