Manual Back Light Control for 9664/9704

I realize this may be hopeless but maybe someone from Philips is actually reading this & can forward this to their software development team.

Is there any chance of adding manual back-light controls to the 2009 9000 series specifically the 9664 series. You cannot control the back-light directly, only indirectly via the light sensor but what if you want to set it at a level your comfortable with all the time ?

The light sensor works during the day to compensate but at night even in a well lit room it dials down the back-light brightness, this is very frustrating as you then have to turn off the light sensor to restore the brightness level (which is a chore in itself buried in the menus). If you raise the brightness/contrast settings too much then it washes out the picture, whereas raising the back-light makes the picture simply brighter without any major side affects.

Is it too much to ask to please add some manual back-light control option to a firmware update for the 9664/9704 series.

There will be no change in the TV software that adds manual backlight control.
This means that you have to play with lightsensor on/off and the contrast and brightness settings.
Another setting that you can try to change is the Picture smart setting (select one out of Personal/Vivid/Natural/Cinema/Game/Standard).

if contrast is reduced, then also backlight is dimmed.
This is general for all Philips tv's.
The backlight cannot be dimmed to zero, because then we cannot see signal anymore.
Therefore mostly below 70% the amplitude of the videosignal is reduced, to lower the contrast.

You can see this if you check the brightness of the menu. the brightness from menu is reduced till you reach 70.

Indeed smart settings might help, but first start with adding device to your home page.
Depending on the source that you select (blu ray, VCR, satelite) there is also different signal processing.
If you have good source, then noise reduction should be OFF. Also sharpness not too high.

This is something that should be added to all Philips TV. Its a badly missing feature. See for example my 46PFL9705: it has local dimming that works in 2D. BUT in 3D, there is no local dimming: the blacks are too gray and the image has much lesser contrast than when local dimming is on.

What can I do to fix this? I can do nothing at all. So, 3D is not usable in this "3D" TV...
