Hi all,

I want to inform you all that Wi-Fi Media Connect is not supported on our Europe 2012 models ( xxPFLxxx7).

On the support page for your TV you will find Media manager + server (Twonky). This is a push and pull multimedia tool that you use over DLNA to your TV.
You get the license key for Twonky by register your TV on Club Philips. Without registering, you can use Twonky for one (1) Month. NOTE: Reinstalling does NOT reset the 1 month counter.

You can also use Windows Media Player 12 as an alternative Media Server.

Best regards
Benedickte

Forget about the twonky server. The program does not support fastwind. Nero home media server works without "dancing" around

That's kinda funny. Since a couple of days ago (right after I unpacked my 4007 model and PTA01 WiFi adapter), MediaConnect ACCTUALLY projected my PC desktop on TV. However, it never works again afterwards.;)

Are you now telling me the information printed on the box of my T.V. stating Media Connect "wireless connection from your
t.v. to you Mac or PC is not true? If so! Should there now be a recall on your product for false advertising or better a class action lawsuit?

See below for my chat with Phillips. They care so much they hung up on me!

Eric:
I recently purchased the above model t.v. after several weeks of researching
brands of t.v.s I settled on the Philips t.v. because it seemed to provide all the features I wanted in a t.v. at an affordable price. However, after many hours of trying to get the MediaConnect feature working. I gave up in frustration and then called your support line. I spoke with several techs that each gave me their own spin telling me that it was something other than the software. One tech. also told me it was a router issue. I then spent hours on the phone with the router manufacturer. Being told after checking the router all throughly and having them check my router remotely that there is no problem with the router. I now read in your support site that the MediaConnect software is not compatible with the 2012 T.V.s Is that true?

Welcome Eric! Your request has been directed to the Consumer Television department. Please wait for our operator to answer your call.

Call accepted by operator Marc. Currently in room: Marc, Eric.

Marc:
Thank you for contacting Philips. Please give me a moment to review your question.
Marc:
It is compatible to certain models. Yours is one of them.
Eric:
Obviously not because your support center has no answer for why I can't get it to work. They checked my current computer specs and said it was more than suffient to run the software. I guess I am glad I bought the t.v. at Costco. I can return it without an problems and purchase a different brand. Because Philips can't give me an answer other than it is compatible with my t.v. I GIVE UP!

Marc is now off-line and may not reply. Currently in room: Eric.

Eric:
GREAT! Thanks for NO RESPONSE!

Hi EricN.

I can understand you are frustrated reading this. For your information that WiFi Media Connect is not supported on Europe models. When it comes to USA models these are supported.

Hi Benedickte

Thanks, but I'm more than happy with iSedora which I find works far better than Twonky.

However unlike Wi-Fi Media Connect, neither iSedora nor Twonky is able to stream from a web browser which is why I would like to know why Wi-Fi Media Connect not supported on 2012 Euro models (like the 32PFL5007K model that I have just bought!).

That is exactly my question too! http://www.supportforum.philips.com/en/showthread.php?8042-How-can-I-see-remotely-my-laptop-screen-on-Philips-40PFL5507H-12&highlight=wi-fi+media+connect

How is it possible for Philips to cancel a very useful application such as Wi-Fi Media Connect from its Y2012 TV models in Europe while older TV models still have the app???!! And since Philips has made such decision, why didn't replace the wi-fi media connect with an alternative application bearing grosso modo the same features? Is there an official explanation to this??

Do you mean the entire wifi/dlna functionality which is included on the European 2012 TV models isn't supported, or do you just mean that the "wifi media connect" software program for the PC isn't supported on these TV models?

I just bought the PTA01 adaptor, and after reading this thread I'am very disapointed with my purchase, because my TV is 42PFL4307H and according to these news I'am not able to view my desktop/internet explorer windows!
Is there any other software available, that could allow the TV to show desktop and internet explorer windows?

Hi everyone!
Just bought an 42PFL4307H/12 TV, didn't buy the Philips USB wifi dongle as i had one from another manufacturer already at home (used it on my old laptop to connect on the net with it).
When i tryed to connect the TV with my old USB dongle it didnt work, the tv would just stay there & do nothing, apart the message that it doesnt support that device.
After that i did some searching to see witch USB-wifi dongle is supported by TV & i found this thread.
Do i even if i buy the Philips PTA01 dongle would not be able to connect the TV to my home WIFI or i can still connect to the internet with it.
I can connect with the cable but that would involve some major drilling around the house walls & this would be the very last option.

In short do i need to drill trough half the house to connect my tv on the internet for the Smart TV feature, or the Philips PTA01 dongle will work for that too???

From what I have seen on youtube this software allowed to replicate PC's desktop on Tv screen, am I right? If the answer is YES, why for God's sake Philips did resign of this technology? With this on board my PFL6007K would be the smartest TV on Earth. :(

I have the same model and same PTA01 adapter. I also wasted money. I can connect my computer with a wired USB to hdmi out adapter (about 40 GBP). But unfortunately, no connectivity with wireless PTA01 from Philips!!!!!! So sad.

I have 32PFL7605 (2010 model) with PTA01 dongle and have used WIFI media connect, but I have to disappoint you: the wifi speed is just to slow to use the TV as a replacement PC/laptop screen.
Wifi connection with PTA01 is however fine for playing pictures or movies on a NAS.

Hi,

your TV is a 2013 model. You can install a DLNA server such as Twonky or Serviio on your PC to share audio/video/pictures. You can access them via the "Browse Network" on your TV.

Hello,

My TV (102 cm (40"), Full HD 1080p, DVB-T/C 40PFL5007H/12) finds my laptop and the maps Music/Pictures/Videos, but it can only read a few types of files (actually only mp4). Jpg, avi, etc files can not be shown on my television. I'm using Windows Media Player 11.

I tried installing Twonky, but it seems my pictures still can't be shown.

Can you please help me with this?

Thank you!

Well,I was thinking mainly about projecting. I have a widi laptop with windows 8.1. My tv and pc find each other and I can Project my pc to the tv for less than a second and then the tV just hangs. Actually, this TV hangs way a lot! What's the problem?

Had a senior moment today with our 40PFL9705 Tv. Since my last note to Philips in 2012 our WiFi Media Connect has worked seamlessly usually on FILMON and computer screen access. Today our wifi just did not work. Went thru all the usual web based checks and decided that the PC end of the system was at fault. Used my WiFi media Connect disc to download a fresh copy and found the disc was no longer operative. Contacted Philips and this is their answer,
" We no longer hold the licence for this software and suggest you contact them directly for further assistance"
This is real kick in your teeth stuff. Not only did they not try and help, they do not want to help.
Can any of the Philips techies, who I have a lot of time for, provide me with a software tip or suggest an alternative way of connecting PC to TV please. With the loss of satellite TV in my area we now rely on our Philips for all sorts of communication with the outside world so we need a fix fairly rapidly.
