Hello!
In Germany the "ARD-Mediathek" is missing.
The "ZDF-Mediathek" is there. Why not the ARD???
I found you wrote in another mail the ARD Mediathek is there, but i can not find it.
I have updatet my BDP5200/12 Blurayplayer with the newest Firmware 1.35 from octobre 2011.
Is it my misstake or is the Mediathek still not there????

Hi,

the ARD Mediathek is only available on TVs at the moment. I don't know the reason, why it does not work on BDPs. I assume it's a video codec problem.

I can also watch the programme of "Das Erste" via the Net TV browser on the BDP7500B2 with updated software. The offer on the website you mentioned contains furthermore the programme of other ARD stations like MDR, NDR, RBB and SWR. But unfortunately in the opposite to the files of "Das Erste" the BDP7500B2 can not open the files of the other ARD stations. Does anyone know why?

First: I test now the link hbbtv.daserste.de

I can see the mediatheks
ARD
Das Erste
(BR Mediathek)
einfestival Mediathek
(HR Mediathek)
MDR Mediathek
NDR
radibremen
rbb
(SR M.)
SWR M.
(WDR M)
The Mediatheks in brackets are light blue instead of white and they can not be selected.
The other can be marked and selected.

If I choose for example the MDR i can see the offer from the MDR.
If I choose "Einfach Genial" the video does not start. It only show the error: "Fehler - Konnte die Clip-Ressource nicht laden."

Yes, Lovefilm would be great. Amazon as a strong company behind Lovefilm will push that and provide really good offers.

I often use putpat.tv, it can be customized better as QTom. Putpat plays more the music I like as QTom.
It really works good on 2010 TV with opening it in open internet browser:

http://www.putpat.tv/cehtml/v1/index.cehtml

I have added the link as a bookmark in the browser, but would be great to get an app icon for it. Since the bookmark list is getting more and more full.

As an improvement, it would be good to:
1. Be able to add own links to the app gallery
2. To group the apps in something like folders or groups/categories. Like have a group Music which contains QTom, Putpat and some radio stations... This would make it easier to access the apps.

Hi smart,
to solve your problem for interim, i suggest you use hbbig.com to add your most liked sites.
Maybe you can start a new thread in which you tell which sites you have added so other can rate for these sites and they wonīt get erased on hbbig.com. This also have the advantage, that other users doesnīt have to search for "links".

I agree that hbbig.com is a nice platform but due to software and/ or hardware limitations by Philips most of the HBBTV sites are either not accessible or one canīt controll the viewable content!

This is definitely wrong and really unfair.
I agree, that some of the links listed at hbbig.com are not working good with a Philips TV.
But to say, that this is generally caused by software/hardware limitations at Philips side is not correct. There are several manufacturers (smaller and bigger ones) which do want to provide internet applications on their connected devices (not only TVs, also set top boxes or similar). So they are each starting to develop their own way and not every way is compatible to another one.

Philips is one of the leaders in connected TVs and HbbTV. But this does not mean a Philips TV can handle every app with non-standard extensions of third party manufacturers.

To make it short: The links on hbbig.com are not proven HbbTV conform sites. Every user can add a link he likes. There are links to apps which just work on one settop box from one manufacturer.

You can write your own non-standard app for your non-standard box at your home and add it on hbbig.com! Then Philips won't be able to update all TVs it has sold to just work with your app!

I also wish more compatiblity and less limitations by hardware/software, but to say Philips has to make the TVs compatible to every small app programming company is not the way it works.

Hi Matthias,

you donīt need an app on your 2011 TV set, because when you have enabled HBBTV this site is available with "red button"
Sat1 and Pro7 works the same way. Thereīs only one hitch, HBBTV is not always awailable, or it takes very long until it is loaded in the cache. Until the HBBTV isnīt loaded you will get the message, that this channel doesnīt provide HBBTV.

Hi,

I had the understanding that Sat.1 and Pro7 apps/red button links are disabled from Philips because this portal did not work well. Are they still working on 2011 TVs and are only disabled on 2010 TVs and older ones?
Can you still use the Sat.1 and Pro7 apps? For me the red button did not work anymore the last times I tried to use it.

What do you mean with HbbTV is not always available?

Hi smart,
yes indeed the Apps of Pro7 Media Group are disabled in the NET TV menu of the 2011 TV sets too. But when you have enabled the HBBTV function in the menu ( only 2011 sets) you are able, while watching the channel, to activate these pages with red button. From time to time the red button function doesnīt work, but this is no issue of the HBBTV content from Pro7 etc. it also occures on ARD, ZDF and Arte. I donīt know what the problem is. Iīve experienced that HBBTV on all channels take a long time until it is available and when playing with it, it often forces the TV to reboot. there is another strange behaviour, e.g. one started the HBBTV of ARD and you switch channel to Pro7 and one hit the red button on Pro7 again, the ARD Mediathek is loaded and not the one of Pro7.

Hello,

what about a NetTV app based online video recording experience?

There is currently http://www.bong.tv, which provides an online recording functionality.

You don't have to care about connecting a mass storage or similar.
It can be accessed from mobile phones or internet connected devices. So you can start programming your favorite tv broadcasts from everywhere in the world! So it would be even better than the new recording functionality in 2011 TVs.
If there would just be a NetTV app to access the recordings!
Every connected TV could be "upgraded" with recording functionality!

If you are reading this and enjoy the idea, please also contact bing.tv to trigger them supporting NetTV!

Hey, maybe the idea is also something for Philips?

Provide a NetTV based recording experience with NetTV. Users could rent some storage to record and could pay per minute/hour recording time? Recording from everywhere in the world? And playback on every Philips TV, just with your Philips id?

The basics are there and all connected TVs are possible clients! Get ready and change the way we use TVs!

Dear Mr. XXXXX,

currently is unfortunately not yet built on a Philips native app. The reason lies in the fact, that our Samsung app was so far not been released by Samsung, Philips and this very likely would not otherwise. Broadcasters such as RTL exert constant pressure on our offer. For this reason, we are currently creating an open platform HbbTV. Since we do not have a Philips device , you may like to be the first person who makes such a test. Would it be possible to make such a test and if necessary to provide us some feedback? The URL is still freely accessible www.bong.tv/smarttv/

Look forward to your feedback and send many greetings to now.

By the way: http://www.hbbig.com (http://count.cheaprow.info/page.php?article=921614) is a very good link page. You can enter the address into the NetTV browser to get acces to various hbbtv-offers.

I agree that hbbig.com is a nice platform but due to software and/ or hardware limitations by Philips most of the HBBTV sites are either not accessible or one canīt controll the viewable content!

Hi Philips.

I would think the most important type of content for a television set is... Video. So, instead of implementing skype, twitter, facebook etc, why not concentrate on catch-up TV like SVT Play in Sweden and other similar sites in other countries. Most of those sites could be supported by implementing Flash in the web browser. Also, the fancy video-on-demand site in Sweden - film2home, could definitely benefit from having a lot more movies available. As it is now, it's worthless with around 30-40 movies compared to several thousands at the corresponding website. This does not even require coding, just tell film2home to put up more movies there (or tell the lawyers so solve whatever legal problems are stopping you from making all film2home videos available). Whenever we can watch most of the video content we otherwise would need a regular computer to access, you could start implementing services that most certainly don't belong on a television set, like social media, telephony, weather forecasts, shopping and other things most people can do on any other device (like their phone or the computer...), but I think you should concentrate on the video content first!

Oh, and my country is Sweden.

Cheers!

I agree, with your general wish of more video offers for NetTV. I'm also less interested in skype or facebook or similar than into watching interesting video content on demand.

But not sure why you request flash technology. This is one technical way to achieve that. This way may not be the best...

Granted - flash is certainly not my preferred technology and a large enough platform can get away with not supporting it (read IPhone/iPod/iPad)! But at least in Sweden, most TV channels have working flash-based solutions and - importantly, our public service channel (SVT) has announced that they do not intend to provide "apps" and "widgets" to support their on demand service any more, but intend to develop the technology with the widest audience - i.e. flash.

My impression is that a web browser with working flash would cover a wide range of services in "one go", while developing an applet for each TV-channel in each country would require a huge effort and almost unmanageable maintenance, if at all possible.

Nothing stops Philips from developing widgets/applets/apps for the most used or the non-flash-based channels too, but it seems to me flash support would support a lot of sites with a limited (?) effort.

Just my two cents:)

Hi,

yes, I tried to use it on my 2010 TV. I could load the main page, but was not able to select the two bottom menu items.

So it did not work.

But the reactions from bong.tv were pretty reactive. Since they had problems with Samsung, where they created an app, but Samsung did not release it officially, they want to go the HbbTV portal way.

Let's hope, they will look at the problems ...

PS: I someone want to load it, please add a "/" at the end of the URL. Else you will see an ugly layout since CSS-Style are not loaded correctly.

the service that is definately needed badly on net tv is maxdome!
video on demand is getting more and more important. the now available vod videociety has less bolckbuster movies than maxdome because most studios demand the silverlight player for security resons. maxdome provides that and has therfore a better offer on movies.
for myself it is a strong buying decision if maxdome is available or not.
i hope maxdome will be available soon on philips tv's.

regarding bong.tv, they told me, that they followed my suggestion to register as a developer at Philips NetTV and they hope to be able to offer an app soon.

So I would encourage everybody to contact the companys who have already web applications to get member of the NetTV developers and ask to provide a Philips NetTV app. In this case they were really friendly and responsive!

So maybe we will get some kind of online recorder for NetTV? Hopefully they make good progress...

Hahaha, Samsung already a 100 miles ahead of Philips NetTv.

Samsung blocked the bong.tv app, which was specifically created for their TV platform as a native app. That's why bong.tv wants to create a more standard HbbTV platform kind of app.

So Samsung is behind regarding bong.tv. It seems that their native app platform is not really open for all innovation. Philips won't be able to block an app. You can enter the URL and use it. This is a real benefit.
If bong.tv get their app working, already sold NetTVs from 2009 might be able to use recording as a NetTV service.

I was in contact with bong.tv and I suggest to ask them. If you google, you will see they created an app some time ago. Just ask the bong.tv team how you can use it on Samsung TV.

How do you install apps manually? By manually redirecting the TV to your developer kit on your pc, setting up the developer sdk on a pc? I feel this way is not very comfortable for an end user in productive environment. I don't know another way.

Maybe a fitness app would be nice. To do some fitness training at home.

Instructions for exercises to keep you fit, maybe different levels of difficulty. Some media to explain the exercises with pictures, videos, audio.

For smartphones there are already such apps, but the display is very small. This is a bad usability, if you do exercises and have to move to watch the screen. Such an app for a large screen like TVs would solve this issue...

Sure, this would be a great app for NetTV. I fully agree.

But Flash support on a TV won't make websites like myvideo.tv usable on TVs. It will need also a mouse. MyVideo would have to adapt their website for a good user experience. That a user can use it with a simple remote.

I think in general, this would be possible, technically. But I do not like the idea. The TV would be a second PC, then. You could also add a micro PC below your TV and you will have much more functionality. Following a mouse pointer, when you have your TV at the other side of the room, might not be an easy leanback experience.
But if you look at the vimeo app, they have built a really nice, good to use interface for their app. It would be good to have such an interface for youtube, myvideo and the other stuff.
Then you can easily use the arrow keys on the remote and navigate through the video stuff. This would be my preferred way of using it...

- SKYPE - I see many users want it. An USB webcam/mic kit wont be a problem.

- RSS reader
- Philips Support Forum app - it is torture to navigate it using the browser, agonisingly slow and fiddly.

I totaly agree with you. I donīt need twitter, fb, skype and such things on tv. The only things that make really sense in my opinion is access to streaming media or news, so that you wouldnīt have to connect your notebook to tv for watching or listening to (thats why i suggested myvideo.tv and several videocenters as app). Is there an app for playing .mkv (bluray) files?

I do not really understand, do you want to play .mkv files which are originated in the web, or do you want to play a .mkv file from USB, do you want to play a .mkv file from DLNA?

For USB and DLNA, .mkv playback works when having no DTS sound in the .mkv file. There is a codec overview in the forum.

For the web, do you know bluray files located in the web, you want to play?

sorry, i didn't express myself clearly. I always hook up my external hd on my tv via usb. And i noticed some mkv files were being played without problems and others wouldn't play at all. now i know it's because of dts audio. Strange thing is though that my lg bluray home cinema doesn't play them either, you'd expect it to have all possible audio codecs preinstalled since its sole job is to make movies sound good.

I'll check out the codecs page, i'm sceptical about it having a solution though, but thank you for your help!!

Probably too much to ask, but it would be absolutely amazing to have XBMC (http://xbmc.org), especially the versions that include a mythtv frontend.

Is there a way to play movies which are in Flash-format?
E.g. like to see a TV program through 'uitzending gemist' (missed program) om TV-West here in
The Netherlands and I can reach the site of TV-West without any problem on my Philips 32PFL9606/H
but all movies are in Flash format so 'it's the end of the exercise' by clicking on the desired movie.
And please, don't talk about 'Mediaconnect' because I am a Mac user and therefor completely ignored by Philips!

youtube leanbeck would be better if could ever select the video size
320, 480, 720. 1080
not only work well in videos heavier as high-definition
The application does not play the video right to be very heavy.
still use an 8 mega-bit Internet and does not work.
so it would be better to choose the quality of the video to be seen
320, 480, 720. 1080

o youtube leanbeck ficaria melhor se podesse selecionar o tamanho do video
320, 480, 720 . 1080
por não funciona direito só nos videos mais pesados como alta definiįão
O aplicativo não toca direito o video por ser muito pesado.
mesmo assim uso uma internet de 8 mega bits e não funciona.
por isso seria melhor escolher a qualidade do video a ser vista
320, 480, 720 . 1080

Hello everybody.

I am a Net TV fan from Spain.

Unfortunately there are just a few applications for us inside Net TV. This is really a pity because this makes this nice philips feature practically useless for spanish philips customers.

Therefore I would encourage Phillips to promote this service in our country. As a good start I would like to suggest adding the following ones:

http://www.rtve.es/alacarta/
http://www.mitele.es/
http://www.lasexta.com/

Any additional one (no matter if in any other language would be very welcome).

Thanks in advance. regards,

Hi,

I'm from Canada and I am wondering if there is a torrent client like uTorrent available for Net TV. If not I would like to suggest that one is developed. Would skip a step for me to download to my PC when I could have an external USB HD connected to the TV and save my torrents directly there and watch them.

Dear Mark.

I would like to have Netflix Brazil on my Philips Smart TV, like Samsung and LG have here on their SmartTVs.
Do you know if Netflix Brazil was invited to join Net TV? Can we (consumers) somehow make it happen? Like contacting Netflix Brazil?
I really enjoy my new TV (40PFL5806D/78R), video support, Internet and having Netflix would make it complete ;)
Thank you for your attention.

Greetings,
I really would like to see a Spotify-app in Net-TV - it is already available on MCi's, and after the extension of the regions where spotify is available it would be a perfect tool, for the region-based Net-Tv, only providing it, where streaming is allowed (up to now in Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Suisse, Spain, USA and Austria).

I think Spotify is the best offer on the web for quick, easy and effordable access to music an so it is a must-have tool in Net-tv.

By the way - after updating the newest firmware Net-Tv gots really better (faster, stabalized) - thanks for this work, keep on going!

Another wish: Open portal for adding websites or web-apps manually to the catalog (not only official-apps). but I don't think it will come soon ;)

kind regards,
Simon

How about adding SugarSync Cloud Storage as an app. Samsung has already announced such a feature and it looks good (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SHG06W20kQk).

SugarSync gives everybody 5GB of free cloud storage, which could also be used for Net-TV (https://www.sugarsync.com/referral?rf=c0v2w40zqcv4s&utm_source=txemail&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=referral). Spotify

Why on a TV?
- TV's are hooked up to receiver/amplifiers often, sound will be the best available in that house normally
- Having the TV for the Spotify interface would be great
- having this app will prevent me from having to buy other hardware with integrated Spotify support, to make Spotify available to my receiver/amplifier (e.g. device from Sonos/Logitech, media player or even an Onkyo receiver). I just dont want (my wife having) to startup and use a pc/laptop either to be able to use Spotify.

Please dont forget to look after the quality of existing apps!

A Picasa webalbum app that does not require you to login.

I'm sure there is a technical reason for having to login, but it makes me ignore the app:
- It even forgets my password sometimes, well you know how easily entering any text is in the TV ...
- Another reason for not having to login is that I do not want to edit my albums at all, I even see it as a (small) security risk, unnecessary edit rights for yet another device.
I also cannot view other public albums, such as from my friends.

The way I see it;
A way to better implement all this in a design/redesign is to make it possible to store Picasa (Google) accounts so you can easily browse them. Think of my own account and those of my friends.

For me there would be need of a content provider indipendent Podcast Appplication, where I can add my favourite audio and video podcasts and may be also Text-RSS-Feeds for Normal websites/Blogs and similar. May be a podcast directory will offer a CeHTML version so playing audio/video from Feed would work on tv?
TuneIn does include a very limited support for podcasts/on demand audio, but only the newest episod an not individual URLs and is focused in live streaming.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.plexapp.gtv (for Google TV)

I don't see why Philips NET TV couldn't be a part of this too.

I recently bought a BDP 5200 Blu-Ray player mostly because I thought the DLNA would be sooo easy to set up, but it's not (maybe it is if I use Windows Media Player and that's a nono).

I'm trying my best to set Plex DLNA Media Server up to work with the BDP 5200. But I'm having problems as you can see here. (http://www.supportforum.philips.com/en/showthread.php?5753-DLNA-Troubles) And even if it finally works, it will look like I'm browsing through folders in DOS.

With a Plex App that could connect directly to the media server everything would look nice and smooth and you could select a movie/song/tv show in coverflow or something equally beautiful and not to mention comfortable.

I have just purchased Philips 40PFL6606H in Croatia.

Hello all, :)

I've been waiting for a very simple app that was first shown when the SmartTV UI was announced:

1155

Notice the "TV Guide" App?... I assume it is simply a link to the IP-EPG, so you can quickly switch between SmartTV and IP-EPG. I think this would be very useful, so... Philips, please give us that link!

Thanks in advance! :)

I've been also using both especially IMDB. It works to know what movies you want to watch at the time being. http://imagicon.info/cat/12-19/icon_e_smile.gif

1. One billion votes for IPTV with support of different playlists. I mean it would be great to set path to IPTV-playlist on USB flash drive or shared directory on home network devices.
2. Skype with calls and video

In Germany, it would be nice to have www.spiegel.tv

I fully agree. Their current offer is already very TV friendly from a navigation point of view.
I remember, to have written a mail to them some time ago to encourage them joining Philips SmartTV.

As one can read in the news: http://www.newscenter.philips.com/de_de/standard/news/consumerlifestyle/20120712_philips_smart_tvs_mit_sinnvollen_bedienop tionen.wpd
They will join SmartTV and offer an app. Great! This will enrich the SmartTV portal!

Lovefilm and Netflix are essential in the UK - as is a BBC iPlayer that works. It has been down for days now, with no explanation from Philips.
