DVB-T2 is just the second version of DVB-T. Both DVB-T & DVB-T2 can support HD.

Hi,

the question is, what the broadcaster will distribute... in Germany over DVB-T only SD quality is transmitted. But in the "near" future only DVB-T2 will be used for HD signals...

Regarding the rumors, I would very much to see the double tuner (and PAP) return to Philips TVs.
Two of my old TV had a double tuner (9618 & 9731), and I am used to. I bought an 9705 to replace the 9731: I got a better picture quality, but I lost so many usability features, especially in getting an idea on what is broadcasted. The 9731 didn't had EPG, but you could start PAP on the channel you re watching, and do a quick zapping to the rest of the channels.
The 9705 does not have twin tuner (so no PIP/PAP), the zapping in DVB-T channels is slow, and no EPG...
To get an idea on what is on, I have to either check with my laptop, or use my panasonic 50" U20 which has a complete EPG guide (despite that I bought it for 630 euros...)

I am very curious to learn what was in Philips mind, when designing a TV without EPG in 2010, about how users are supposed to use the TV...

In my old 9731D there was only one Digital tuner and one analog tuner. It had PAP function but the second part of the screen was not useful.

I'm not quite following you... You say, "No EPG" ? The 9705H/12 does have full EPG (and the information comes from broadcaster or Internet). The remote control is very different than the old ones but that's why there is the on-screen manual in your tv (the yellow button).

The 9705 has full EPG only in a very limited number of countries. In most European ones, the EPG does not work.
I am in Greece, and the EPG does not work at all. If I install channels with another country (like Spain/France/Germany), EPG is shown, but the time is wrong, so the displayed information is also wrong.

We are at least 4 owners in Greece that have made a request to Philips to fix the EPG since September, but after so many months and so many firmware releases, nothing has been fixed. EPG is still not working...

Dear Petasis,

this isn't only an European problem. At least in Turkey (it's the same $TIMEZONE, isn't it?) they have exactly the same EPG w/ wrong clock problem. And I'm pretty sure that Philips Support is also in that case well briefed about this issue...

Hi!
I confirm that EPG also does not work in Russia in 2009-models.

Hi,

I've just started a new topic (http://www.supportforum.philips.com/showthread.php?883-EPG-doesn-t-work-in-some-countries-%28please-post-your-know-how%29) regarding EPG problems some users are facing currently. Please go there and share your know-how on this matter. Thanks!

I am sure Philips does know about the problem (the problem also exist in 2009 models like 9704), but seems to do nothing for 1.5 year now...
I think that they really don't care. DVB-T guide from Panasonic, LG, Samsung, Sony TVs DOES work in Greece. Philips TVs doesn't, and is the only manufacturer that has this defect in software.

I hope these new models don't come without solving the old bugs of the 7000-8000-9000 families
(in my case the audio between pfl8605 and the hts5120 soundbar disappears for 2 seconds several times per hour).

Unacceptable for products like Philips.

Well "rumors" say that they will have keyboard support, skype and DVB-T recoding in USB, like other brands do in their 2010 models.
And there will be (again) no DTS support, but will have subtitles in MKVs.
And they will rename things, like "Perfect 3D Natural Motion", "Superb" resolution, and so on...
We will see...

H - indicates tuners built into the model.

* D - DVB-T (MPEG2) + analog kabel
* H - DVB-T (MPEG2/MPEG4) and DVB-C (MPEG-4.HD AVC)
* C - DVB-T and DVB-C
* M - DVB-T (MPEG4), DVB-C (MPEG-4) and DVB-S2 (MPEG4 HD, MHEG)
* K - DVB-T (MPEG2/MPEG4), DVB-C (MPEG-4.HD AVC) and DVB-S2 (MPEG-4)
* S - DVB-T (MPEG2)
* SB - DVB-T1 (MPEG2/MPEG4)
* - - lack of a point shows that the model is only an analog tuner
* C - this is a design series / 7605S / http://www.philips.com/designyourtv

Wish they released more info about the 6000 series as I'm not really interested in 3D and ambilight doesn't matter that much to me either. I wonder how much the 55" model will cost? :)

Also, I wonder how good the USB recording is, will it even work with analogue signals or only with DVB signals?

And info if they improved the support for various video/audio codecs so more stuff can be played with the built-in media player.

petasis

Only DVB-T channels, and the recorded video will play only on the TV. This is a 2010 feature, and you can conclude on the features by looking at 2010 models from other manufactures.

Hi all

do you happen to know if the USB recording will only workl if an internet connection is on or not? Can one use the EPG provided by the station via the terrestrial broadcast? What if in the channels there are channels originating from different countries most of which will be unknown as the provider of our terrestrial broadcasting provides us english language from romania or other countries as deemed appropiate?

Moreover does anyone have an indication when these will be available on the market?

Hi,

in the first half of 2011 only the 7000 series will be released with USB recording...

7406 - May/June
7606 - May/June
7906 - July
7956 - July

Not all Smart TVs will have the USB recording feature: only 7000 series and better

What are the 7406 7906 and 7956? I have not read anything about them.... I am very interested in the 42 inch 7606 model.

What about the browser, will this be opera? yesterday I saw a video posted by opera http://my.opera.com/techbreak/blog/2011/03/28/preview-of-social-browsing-on-your-tv and they were definetively using a Philips TV.

petasis

I don't expect recording to be practical in countries where DVB-T EPG is not available.
So, the real question is: is your country supported by Philips DVB-T EPG?
Malta I think is not, along with a large of other non supported European countries.

Actually "advanced" features target 4-6 countries only...

Honestly i'm not interested in the local transmissions as I hardly see them. How about Italian channels? Where can i get a list of all the countires/channels where I can get EPG support?

If the provider of the DVB-T is in Malta can i still get the EPG for italian channels broadcasted by my local provider?

I think I have to wait for the model to be released and test it out at the local agent prior to decide!!!
