View Full Version : Songbird software not starting on XP and sa4rga04kn/12 cannot be switched on

Hello,
I downloaded the latest Philips songbird software and installed it on my XP machine. When starting it I can see the splash screen for a bit but then no window is displayed. Checking processes I can see that Philips-Songbird.exe and PhilipsDeviceListener.exe are running. A restart or reinstall doesn't resolve the problem.

Question 1 - is there a way to get this software installed on XP SP3?

I have been able to connect to the device using XP's standard driver and copy MP3 songs on it. The songs play fine, no problem there.
BUT in capital letters, the device only switches on when connected to the USB port of the PC. The battery is full. When disconnecting it I can switch it off but not on again. I have to connect it to the PC again which is a bit of a problem for a portable device.

Question 2 - can someone please advise what the correct steps are to switch the device on? I assume it's holding the play or lock button for several seconds (neither works for me).

Software installed on the device is version 1.08

I can now answer question 2 - I have to hold the play button for 5 seconds or longer THEN release it for the player to start. A user friendly design would have been if the player comes on while the user is still pressing the button.
Only problem now is, the device switches itself on again after I switch it off. WTF? When switching it off and getting the message "Bye" and a slow animation I mistakenly assumed the device was switched off. That only seems to be the case some of the time.

So if someone could comment before I take this piece back to the shop as not working as sold I'd appreciate it.

Update: The on/off button is not working at all now. Had to take the mp3 player back to the shop and get a replacement. Wish I had done that before as now I had to take a replacement instead of getting the money back.
Of course I still can't access the Songbird software on my Windows XP SP3 machine. The Processes show up as running in the Task Manager but not in the Application tab.

Can someone from support please get in touch so that we can figure out how to install and use the Songbird software? Ta

It's nearly two weeks since I tried to install the Songbird Software. Does anyone on this so called support forum care to actually give support?

Hi, think the holiday period was between so that might be why :)

Try to unisntall the whole songbird and after run CCCleaner (thats what I use many times to clean up the mess I make ;) ). Once done install again since it should work with XP.

I had to clean the registry so that now works. What a mess.

Now I see that the latest Firmware is 1.11, my device has 1.08. Songbird insists I've got the latest one. Oh, well.
