Hi, anyone knows where the smart bit enhancement stands for?
This feature was switched off in the service menu by a serviceman because the tv showed soft vertical lines on parts of the screen with the same colour. (40pfl9705 wk34)

I am afraid that nobody knows what the options in the service menu do, except Philips.
Have the soft vertical lines disappeared after the change?
The idea behind Smart Bit Enhancement is to convert 8 bit RGB video into 10 bit.
Most video content that enters your TV via a broadcasted signal is using 8 bit RGB. This can give quantization effects in scenes where the color changes gradually (i.e. a blue sky).
Smart Bit Enhancement tries to prevent this, since the LCD panel is 10 bit.
The processing power to do this is not present on all models.
