Today I received my 40PFL9704H TV.
The first thing i tried, was to play a HD movie from an USB device.
It played, but in slowmotion and without the sound.
Any idea what might have caused this?
The movie was shot with a HD camcorder and after modifications stored in mp4 format.
Any hints might be great. Thanks in advance.
Start using DLNA. http://www.dlna.org/home
Put the TVersity program on your PC and start it up. Put the TV in “Open PC” modus. http://tversity.com/
Now the TV will show the directories on your PC that have payable content; movies, audio or pictures! Just browse and click with the remote control through your content on the PC.
No hassle with USB sticks! More video formats are played, including DivX.
Note: When the TV and/or PC is connected wireless you will need a fast network and good Wifi signals if you want to stream HD content.
The newest TV's have wifi media-connect
In some older houses, Wifi is not on option due to the steel constructions that are used in doorways.
And since the TV has the option to show movies via USB I still like to know where I can find an answer to my question.

Had an offline discussion with Ruudjw.
It seems that he used an SD-HC card connected to the TV via a USB card reader.
This was causing his problems of slow playing movie, no sound and not being able to see JPG photo's on the TV.
When he used, on my advice, directly a USB stick, it all worked well.
Hopefully this helps some of u having the same problems....

Well not correct.
The USB card reader caused the i could not show jpegs on the tv.
But i am still unable to view home made movies, even when i bought a brand new 16Gb Cruzer usb stick.
I have tried all kinds of formats, but all i get is a message that the video has a non supported format.
I have contacted Philips, but still havent got a good answer.

I have a simular problem, when playing movies from a HD connected to the USB connector it also doesn't always run smoothly. Some movies do, some don't. It looks like when the movies shows a great/big view like the grand canyon or a skyline, the USB connection is just to slow to get all information quick enough to the tv.
Also I would like to know how to get the DVD startup screen when playing DVD movies from harddisk. I now can start the movie, but cannot set anything like subtitels or audio settings of that movie. On a computer this is (of course) possible, but the 40PFL9704H doesn't show me the options, just VOB files.
I have contacted Philips customer services, and they advised to use the following codec:
H.264/MPEG-4 AVC
for coding movies.
But no positive results so far.
I installed the latest ffdshow codecs.
I have managed to create a video with DivX HD settings from Pinnacle Studio 14 HD.
Only downside is that is is not 1920x1080 but only 1280x720.
Using the H264 codec did not result in a playable movie.
I do hope some1 from Philips will respond to this thread.
I have tried a 1080p .MKV movie which was stored on a 2.5" 250GB external HDD and the tv played it great!

Well i hooked up the TV to my network (wired), installed TVersity, but still most video's can't be played on the tv :(

Do you have any link with some of examples of HD movies which works via usb ? I've tried trailers from http://www.h264info.com/clips.html but unfortunately no one is working.
Pixel Junk could you tell what software you are using to convert movies to format you are talking about ?
According to my experiences with Avidemux 2.5.x, the pre-defined XviD video profile will return a playable video file. I never had any problems with HD content - at least my 32PFL9705K + 42PFL8404H never complained :)
You should give this pice o' software a try (it's open source by the way).
