DVD menu not working on linux share (via DLNA)

Hi,

I have ripped all my legally bought DVD's to a NAS as ISO and as DVD structure (VIDEO_TS). When I browse to a VIDEO_TS map (via Open PC, or "PC openen" since i'm dutch) I expected that I could select an VTS_01_0.IFO and that a DVD menu would appear just like when inserting a DVD in a DVD player. But unfortunately it does not show a DVD menu.

Selecting a .VOB file does work but I can't select the audio stream and subtitle stream.

Some .VOB files do stutter. Every second it freezes for a couple of milliseconds.

I also have no luck playing mkv files.

Firmware: Q5551-0.10.65.12

Can someone help me on this?

For philips: will this be solved in future releases of the TV firmware? That I can play backed-up DVD/BR via DLNA?

Hi,

ISO Files can not be Played and for DVD Images (Video_TS) you can only select the single *.vob Files but not the ifo to have a Menu.
There are 2 possibilities to have the Files played:
1st use a Philips Media Player (HMP3000) this one can play Divx Ultra which supports menus etc within Divx Files
2nd use a Philips DVD or Blu ray Player which supports the same

For the TV it is not planned to have either direct Support for ISO or DVD incl. Menus.

Then I think I have to convert all my DVD's to MKV's.

Can you or someone else tell me which tool i can best use to convert the DVD/Bluray discs to MKV files including subtitle and audio streams?

And which settings do I need to make in the convert tool to have my 9606 play the MKV file correctly?

The easiest way to convert your DVDs to MKV will be probably Handbrake or Staxrip.
Make sure you use Profile High Level 4.0 or 4.1 for the H.264 encoder. Main 4.0 files will most probably not be playable.
You better search for a dedicate site and read trough it. Explaining all the settings in a post will not be possible.
And if you are done with that, you should search for a dedicated site dealing with deinterlacing. You most probably want to have deinterlaced videostreams, since the TV (at least the 7655 I own), in contrast to the BDPs, will not display MBAFF encoded streams very well. You'll notice that in fast changing scenes. There will be no smoth movenment, some fields seem to be missing. On the other hand most deinterlacers for AVISynth do not really yield a nice result. So you'll have to deal with blending or stuttering, depending on if you deal with PAL or NTSC material. Deinterlacing is most probably the hardest part of the whole process.
Make sure you turn off the header compression when muxing the video and audio streams together into the mkv container. Otherwise the movie will most probably not run.
And don't forget, any copy and any reencoding of your DVDs is most probably against the copyright law, even for private use.
