Lots of resets with Cinema 21:9 Gold TV (50PFL7956H/12)

I have a Cinema 21:9 Gold TV (50PFL7956hH/12) fw 14.84 and use it together with the Home Cinema set (HTS8562/12) fw 1.27. I experience a lot of resets on the tv, the most common is when I insert a USB stick on the HTS and press play. 9 out of 10 times the tv resets, the screen goes black, you see the Philips logo on screen and the tv starts showing picture again. It feels like the tv can't handle the video output from the HTS. I also experience resets when using other video sources on the HTS. What can I do to stop (prevent) the resets?

maybe you can try to disable Easylink... or also try to use another HDMI port...

Yes, I was affraid this could be the problem, the thing is I use the HDMI (ARC) port in order to be able to use 1 remote (the tv remote) to control the Bluray player of the HTS. Also I set up Easylink so that the audio from my tv (broadcasts) also goes to the HTS (through ARC).

The ARC channel does not handle the imput correctly and I don't know what the cause is of this. What I want:

1) Start HTS automaticly when I turn on the tv (should work as it is advertised to work like this by Philips but doesn't work at this time)
2) Play the sound from TV broadcasts through the HTS (works only if I turn the HTS on first and than wait a while till the HTS is started up and has an active connection and then turn on the TV, otherwise it says: "Turning the receiver on failed".
3) Use the tv remote to control the HTS (this works at this point).

I don't know what the problem is, is it software or hardware or the HDMI cable I'm using? I have a Philips HDMI-cable SWV3432S High Speed, 1,5 m.

I suspect there's something wrong with the TV software (the easylink part) as I also experience a small flickering once in a while (every 10 min or so) when watching 3D Bluray as if the tv looses the signal but never gets to a reset, see also this thread:

Hi all, I think I found the a solution for these problems. I also had an Apple TV (1st generation) connected with a HDMI cable to the HTS. After disconnecting the Apple TV, I don't experience the resets and the Easylink problems any more. The TV sound is played by the HTS and the HTS even gets on when I turn on the TV from standby.

Looks like the Apple TV was "jamming" the signal some way. I'll now investigate if it's the signal or the HDMI cable of the Apple TV that was the culprit.

I thought my Apple TV was the culprit, because it all worked for a couple of days, now I started to experience the same problems:

• TV not showing image when turned on, ambilight works though. Does it have to do with my UPC CI+ module, this one still shows "authentication in progress, please wait". Sometimes it takes almost a minute to authenticate.
• TV resets when the HTS is turned on, showing Philips logo
• Easylink does not work anymore, HTS does not autostart anymore

The only thing that helped get a picture back on the TV is to pull the TV plug from the AC wait a minute and put it back on. I don't understand what is causing the resets, but the problem is still there with this firmware.

Ok, so I have some additional information. After a reset the TV gets on and I get the grey info screen saying "Undefined" on the left top of the screen. Does anyone know what it means?

P.S. Yesterday I tried to contact Customer Support as they proposed me to enroll for an experimental "remote support" function. Sadly although the support technicians are available form 9:00 to 20:30 those "remote-support-trained" personnel are just available from 9:00 to 17:00 on workdays. I work full time so I never get a chance to do the test.

Today I had the chance to test the TV with another HTS, the HTS9140/12. The TV had the same behavior, crash just after the HTS was put on and duplicated 'Multi-view' items instead of the right HTS Easylink activities. I tend to think that the duplicated TV menu items are related to the crashes.

This can be tested when the Easylink --> TV speakers are set to EasyLink (and not Easylink autostart).

Because it's been more that a month since your last reply on this matter, could you please tell me if any progress was made about this issue?

I got my Philips Cinema Gold replaced by a brand new Philips Cinema Platinum (58PFL9956H/12). I tested the configuration (HTS + new TV) with this new TV. The problem is still there. My brand new Philips TV still reboots when used in combination with a Philips HTS.

I can still 100% reproduce the reboot by going to the TV menu and pressing on the HTS-Radio icon. 9 out of 10 times screen and ambilight go on black, white Philips logo is shown on the TV, TV needs 40 seconds to reboot.

After reboot all HTS Easylink entries are gone from the TV menu, TV link to HTS is broken, Easylink does not work. Only a cold restart of the TV (by button) and disabling Easylink and re-enabling Easylink helps to get all HTS icons back in the TV menu.

The resets still occur like I said before:

According to what I've been experiencing lately, it seems that the reboots occur more if the Easylink setting for TV speakers is set to Easylink Autostart instead of just Easylink.

Seems that Philips combines HDMI - CEC and HDMI - ARC protocol in this Easylink function. That is the only explanation why the sound setting can be found in the Easylink menu.

It still looks like a sound issue to me, when the TV gets a sound input from HTS, TV does not like that and shuts down.

@ Philips moderators: could you tell me if the investigation started allready and if there is any progress on this issue?

wow. Did you get a 58pfl9956 platinum replacement for the Gold ? That is actually a very nice gesture by Philips. Too bad there are many issues with that screen as well :(

I had to pay a price difference, but yes, it is a nice gesture from Philips. I must say I am pretty satisfied with this screen. 2D image is very good and I actually don't have other issues with the screen. I did not have a chance to test 3D much as the provided PTA516 - 3D glasses were the old version making the annoying buzzing sound. So Philips is exchanging them for the new PTA516 version v3 ones.

Too bad such a nice TV screen and such a good sound from HTS don't go together.
