Does anyone have a profile or settings for encoding video to play on a Philips 5000 series LED TV?
I'm on a Mac and I've tried with Handbrake, VisualHub and RoadMovie but I guess I dont have the settings right as I can't access or play the files from the USB.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Maybe you can post the MediaInfo from a video that does not work?
Whats is your source material that you're converting using HandBrake?

Strange that you say the file is an AVI yet MediaInfo says it's contents is actually MKV (Matroska). You could try simply renaming it as .mkv instead of .avi and see does that fix it.

Are you sure your 5000 can play mkv?
Taking a quick look at that codec spread sheet that smart posted it says for 2009 5000 series they don't play mkv. Is yours a 2009 model?
We just bought it a month ago so I guess it's a current model
It obviously doesn't play the original .avi either? Could you post Media Info details of the original avi?

Very odd. According to the codec spread sheet 2011 TVs should be able to play that avi as it is.
I'm a bit stumped.
If it was me I'd try and make a "regular" .mp4 file. MKV and AVIs cover a massive range of video and audio codecs and TVs with limited functionality most likely won't be able to handle all the permutations.
I'd load the avi into HandBrake, Select the Normal profile, Choose MP4 format then hit Browse and select where you want your file to be saved AND rename the extension as .mp4 (instead of .m4v) and let hand brake convert it.
You should end up with a regular .mp4 that the TV should be able to play.
Just to check, you say you can't access the files via USB. Can you access photos or anything from the USB drive on the TV? It may be the drive isn't formatted properly (for the TV). It should be FAT 32 (MS-DOS(FAT) in Mac speak)
I think your problem is this handbrake-setting:
Frame rate mode : Variable
I know, almost all (or maybe all) of the Pre-Settings use this in Handbrake. Still it did not work with my Blu-Ray-Player. Change that to "Constant Frame Rate" and you might be fine.
By the way, variable "frame rate" is not the same as the usual "variable bit rate". It means the resulting streams doesn't run constantly with (for example) 25 fps but changes THIS rate, according to the found material.
If you use Handbrake, chose H.264 as video codec, uncheck large file size and make sure that file extension is .mp4Quote:
