MCI500H will not switch on

Can anyone help please.

I have a Streamium MCI500H and it will not switch on. When the on button is pressed, it sounds like the fan (or maybe hard disk) is starting up, but there are no lights at all showing on the system and nothing will work.

I have a lot of music on the system, which is backed up to a laptop, so was hoping that I could export the music into a format I could transfer to another system - however the Philips WADM software will not start if the MCI500H is not online.

I will be sending the unit to the repair centre, but in the meantime, does anyone know if it is possible to convert/export the music from file created by the WADM software on my laptop?

Hi !

If you used the backup function in WADM you've got an encrypted backup file that can only be used with your MCi500H. It can't even be used for a new (working) MCi500H :-(
If your HDD still has some life in it (hopefully it's only the boot partition in it that is broken), you can take out the HDD from your MCi500H and connect it to a PC that is then started with Linux. if you're lucky, you may see the partition with your music tracks there (named as 5-digit-numbers plus the extension, usually .mp3 or .wma).
If you, for some reason, make your MCi500H start, use my WACHandler instead of WADM to copy our tracks from your MCi500J to your PC.

Hi my unit has just had the same issue, was your power button flickering?

Mine was and I have been informed by the engineers that it is the power module which is no longer manufactured and not able to be sourced therefore it can not be fixed!! Its only 3 years old - you should really be able to access parts after only 3 years!!! even if it is outside the warrenty.

as the power supply is no longer stocked you may need to ask your repairer to repair the power supply at component level as i had to do the same with my wac7500

Out of interest which repairer did you use? I used one in Kettering and they did not have the expertise to repair at the compnent level - I was told the unit would have to go to Philips..

May be cheaper to use your repairer? - how much did it cost you and have you have no further issue?
