I need help deciding which Philips TV to buy

I need a new TV and I will buy one as soon as I find a suitable one.

Requirements:
42" to 47" size
Ambilight / Philips, preferably on 3 sides
IDTV - it needs an internal decoder that works in Norwegian conditions (Must support DVB-C)
Also needs to be on my network provider Canal Digitals approved TV list

Since my provider is Canal Digital my first choice will be a Canal Digital approved screen. Second choice will be TV approved by RiksTV so that I can switch to RiksTV if it is incompatible with Canal Digital.

I have narrowed it down to these models
Philips 42PFL6877T (sadly, the 47 inch model is not approved)

I dont care much for image quality, but Im really picky about motion and movement. My eyes are sensitive and accustomed to 160hz refresh computer monitor, what I want is fluid movements. On most CRT TVs/monitors I can actually see the black flicker between images.

Hi, I want to buy a new Philips TV tomorrow but I cant decide which one. I want to narrow my choices down to a few models so I can see which one I prefer like at the local store.

Im not too concerned with image quality, but I am very picky about motion lag and jittery movements. My eyes are sensitive and accustomed to 160hz CRT screen, now I actually see the black flickering on crt monitors and TVs.
So far I have found 42PFL6877T/12 and 47PFL6007T/12 - is there any other TV`s I should take a closer look at? Budget is around ~1300€.

Ambilight, functional IDTV here in Norway and a beautiful fluid image free of annoying bugs when there is movement.

TV must also be in stock at any Norwegian store

I bought a 47pfl6007t/12 almost three weeks ago and finally received my new TV today, connected it to internet and installed latest firmware. Im impressed and I really like this tv.
The menu was really choppy before I installed the firmware update, it could still be more responsive and quicker but it does its job.

I think the picture is excellent, motion as well. The ambilight is really nice too, I had to unplug the TV and plug it in again for lounge mode to work properly but its working nicely now. Looks extremely nice in a refurbished room.


As for the motion judder and things Ive seen complaints about on this forum - I tried setting every possible image quality enhancement setting to its maximum setting and yes, the picture quality became really bad then. Not just noticeable but annoying judder and artefacts in almost every scene (I watche Wall-E on bluray) .
I then reduced the settings, either disabled them or put them at their minimum/standard settings and the picture is great now.
Its not diffcult at all to get excellent picture on this TV, but its also easy to get a bad one if you adjust the wrong settings too much. No wonder people are having problems, its not really the tv panel or user its the confusing menu where enabling image enhancements makes picture quality worse..


I think the volume controls on remote should adjust headphone volume when tv-speakers are disabled. TV would feel smarter if it could do that.


Overall I find this TV excellent, and Im very happy with it. I have not noticed any real shortcomings yet, I must be too blinded by the ambilight :)

Looks like I celebrated a little early..

I have unplugged the TV now as the HDMI inputs no longer work properly. I can not use my playstation 3 or use my speakers as all signals was sent by hdmi through the TV.


I sent a contact form to customer care, should I send the TV back to the store or should I wait for a repair-guy?

Did you get your 47PFL6007T to work as IDTV with Canal Digital? The TV is still not on the list

Cant remember actually, I think I did. Have some other problems with my TV so I havent really used it much yet, getting a visit from a service man tomorrow (who just happens to be a coworker from my old job, small world..)
however I did not return the CAM-module to the store and Im sure I would have done that if it was not working.

So Im pretty sure it should work!
