HDMI pass trough of Dolby True HD/ DD 5.1 audio

Hi,

I'm struggling to get this to work. Any input would be appreciated to correct this problem :)
Setup:
- TV 46PFL9705 WK 36-2010, SW 140.27.
- HTS Yamaha YSP4100 SW 7.03. 1x HDMI-ARC, 4x HDMI 1,4 in.
- BD BDP8000 SW 1.53.
TV and HTS are connected trough HDMI-ARC connection.
When I connect the BD-player to the TV at HDMI 2 the 5.1 sound is not passed over to the HTS via the HDMI-ARC connection. The output to the HTS is stereo.
Connecting the BD-player directly to the HTS over HDMI will give me the selected 5.1 sound.

Is the TV not capable to pass trough 5.1 surround over HDMI?

Have you tried to connect the SPDIF cable for the HTS (coaxial)
and use the HDMI Arc for the BD?

Hi,
No have not tried this yet. Before buying yet another cable I would like to be sure if the passing trough off this audio modus is possible at all in this configuration or that I'm stuck with some mallfunctioning HDMI hardware/software in the TV.
Funny thing is that when watching TV the 5.1 sound is passed to the HTS without any problem.

The SPDIF cable is included in the standard configuration of the HTS normally (at least in the Philips HTS that I've purchased).

To be honest: getting the HTS of the wall, disconnecting and reconnecting the cables, and putting the HTS back on the wall is kind of a pain in the ...:)

I'm suspecting the TV's HDMI connections for several reasons. When I turn of the TV the time it takes to turn of the HTS differs from directly to up about a minute. This applies for turning on the HTS as well. Often it even lets me hear the audio from a different TV channel as the one I was watching when I switched off the TV.

Resume:
- BD->HTS<->TV. When I turn on the TV the HTS is turned on too, but no sound. Have to go in to the easylink menu and turn on and of the easylink and ARC options to get the audio to go to the HTS.
- BD->TV<-> HTS. No 5.1 audio to HTS.

BD-player connected with HDMI to TV (HDMI 1 ARC) - TV is connected with digital coaxial SPDIF to my HTS (Sony receiver).

DTS is NOT routed through the TV to my HTS! I didn't check Dolby Digital... I have connected my BD-player directly with my HTS via optical digital SPDIF - that works.

Don't know, if this is a feature or bug...

The main question is still unanswered : are the TV's HDMI connections 2-4 supposed to pass trough any surround audio over the HDMI 1 connection to another device (HTS, AV receiver)?

I complain about silently dropping DTS pass-through since September 2010. Its a shame my 9731 does pass-through DTS from HDMI -> SPDIF, and my 9705 does not...

DD is passed-through correctly from HDMI -> SPDIF...

OK.I checked it and video from BD->TV over HDMI and sound from BD-> HTS over S/PDIF coax works. In this setup I have to say goodbey to the wonderfull and comfortable world of HDMI however, I have to operate yet another remote control to select the inputsource for the HTS.

Hi Paladium!

I want you to test one last thing with the ARC connection.

go to TV sound setting and set SURROUND --> ON (THE DEFAULT IS OFF)

maybe that way the ARC pass-through will work and not be cut to Stereo only.

I also plan to buy an HTS and configure it with ARC. i have a 52pfl8605 TV

please try this and tell me if that provides 5.1 through ARC.

Lets say i have an HTS (with HDMI ARC) connected to the TV via HDMI 1 (arc 1.4).
and also have an XBOX connected via HDMI to the TV's HDMI 2. (1.3 not arc)

i play my XBOX game.

Will i hear the sound of the game on my HTS???

Will the sound from my XBOX will go to the TV's HDMI 2 and then BACK to the HTS connected via the HDMI ARC?

Will the Sound be 5.1 if the game supports it???????

WE WANT A PHILIPS OFFICIAL TO ANSWER THAT QUESTION ONCE AND FOR ALL!

ARC SHOULD PASS THROUGH 5.1 AND IF NOT ITS A BUG AND SHOULD BE FIXED.

I'm sorry to dissapoint you. The stereo/surround option only controls the TV's internal speakers.
Furthermore I don't think the ARC channel itself is to blame. Philips just hasn't put this functionality in place. Maybe to cut some costs on lincense fees. Cable TV's multi-channel audio is passed trough just fine.
All in all this is very dissapointing. Maybe an official statement from Philips regarding this issue could stop us speculating about the cause.

a complete passthrough chain with HDMI (BDP->HDMI->TV->HDMI-ARC->Receiver) should work, since in this setup the complete encryption chain is preserved. If you connect your TV only with SPDIF to the Receiver this could be a problem...

Theoreticly: yes!
Is there anyone out there with this configuration (all Philips devices or a mix of brands) who can confirm multi-channel sound is passed trough?
