Since a few weeks the streams of Hardwareinfo.tv (Netherlands) don't work and sadly enough hang up my BDP player.
Resetting by disconnecting power is very annoying.
Once it said as (error)...
A forum inquiry put my attention on this (still open) issue.
Are there any plans to fix it (so I can tell my friends what a good support Philips gives)?
kwinnie, probably is this workaround the reason for the 1:10 lucky hits when I was testing NetTV access.

Philips acknowledged its a bug.
Not seen the 'comming soon' announcement yet.
February 4, 2012 The netherlands, NetTV with BDP5180:
A SmartTV logo was showing in the left upper corner :)
later on that day:

Hi Philips - Remko,
it takes just 5 minutes to test, in order to see if the issue happens at your situation.
Solving it may take some more time, but can you at least do a test.
Thx.
Need help with testing? I can reproduce the issue of not memorizing fixed IP address everytime I try.
It works after setting the bdp5180 to fixed ip, but after switching off (I mean off, not stand...

You are asking for user experiences and your concern is not having a v1.57 upgrade for this BDP player?
My experience is that DVD and Blu-ray play flawless with v1.54.
The only real hick up I...
Hm, no one yet is using the coaxial SP/DIF for connection to their surround sound amplifier?
I responded today in this thread: http://www.supportforum.philips.com/en/showthread.php?1190-upgrade-1.54-bdp5180-12&p=15684#post15684. It gives you a clue how to reproduce my issue.
Remko,
It didn't last. So no NetTV for me.
Every now and then I tried, without success.
But enjoying the dlna feature made me use the bdp5180 very often.
And everytime I tried te get NetTV....
[QUOTE=Pacman;15005]I always try where possible to test different things, cables, tv,network etc.....Lets call it basic troubleshooting. To take my TV somewhere else is a bit hard but to take my BDP...
You are quite right !
Luckely I have a second amplifier. Not much people will have that luxery.
With all the cables deconnecting, connecting, deconnecting and connecting starting a topic on this...
BDP5180 is connected to my amplifier by digital SP/DIF coaxial input.
When turning the volume knob the screen goes black for a few seconds.

Thank you for your help. Answers are put in capitals in the quote.
It didn't last. The second time I tried many times and at last it worked. After that I tried many many times, without success.
How many times I tried? Hm, it succeeds my TV-channel swapping very...
I didn't buy an AC Ryan or like, because of the streaming capabilities of the BDP (5180/12). :)
I don't know how good or bad that code is. I only notice NetTV isn't working, saying that my router connection is not ok.
For all my pc's it is ok, so it should be for any Philips apparatus.
Stil...
but primary
let there be ... an update :)
I guess there will be a fix for every Philips product offering NETtv.
(so including my BDP5180 blu-ray player aka dmla mediastreamer)
Hardware issue?
It sometimes works fine, so it seems to me a server issue.
My attemps (since july 2011) went from 1 successful out of 10 to 1:100 to ... none:dozens...
http://sourceforge.net/projects/minidlna/. Google on 'minidlna' guides you to lot of information and howto. My linux distribution MandrivaLinux had an rpm package ready to roll.
Is good news? Only when a software update comes avalaible, without having to do repair by a dealer
