What version of songbird are you using? I have heard that getting the correct songbird from the support page is best for your player. Maybe try this and repair from there.

I had a similar problem with my SA3MUS when trying to update the firmware. Re-installing the latest version of songbird did help.

Might be worth trying to charge your MP3 player for a minimum of 3 hours before trying the reset again (when connected to the PC). Sometimes you have to hold down the reset button longer than 10...
