What model is it? And what's your operating system on your computer?
Have you tried using the Micro SD card on any other device? Do you have any other MP4 olayer you could test it with, to exclude whether it's not faulty.
One option for the time being is to create your own random playlist...or a couple of them and wait for a sw update.
