I've noticed the same problem with my set but I haven't noticed the problem anymore with the latest 91-firmware. Maybe they manage to fix it :)
With my 46PFL9706T/12 it seems that settings are same: "none" on dimming sofware and 3D dongle software. But nevertheless, I think that the local dimming problem is much better with the new FW....

I have the same problem with 46PFL9706T/12 with the latest firmware (dated 4.11.2011). Hope they solve the problem soon. It's quite annoying... Of course it's solved by turning off locall dimming but...

I think the problem is the Onkyo reveiver not the TV. Maybe the receiver's build in video processor somehow conflicts with the Blu-Ray player's...
Replying to my self: problem solved! Turning off "Deep Color Output" from PS3 picture settings solved the problem
