1)it s not possible to upgrade your player without songbird
2) cannot customize theme this is always been suggested...
to make it simple, u can use drag & drop
the speed of conversion depends on the size of ur collection.
it might takes some time indeed.
for mix, does it support songbird... there are different versions of mix 3... some support some doesnt...

there maybe some codec issue... n maybe you can try downgrading the resolution of your video n put it into ur player again
you can convert videos using songbird...
simply drag your video to songbird and then sync it to your player... it will automatically convert your videos to a format supported by ur player.
for philips products, the firmware either goes through songbird or device manager (for mix3)
this is not quite convenient indeed if u use linux.
