Philips HTS9140 Subtitle issues
Hello Philip's users,
I have recently bought an HTS914 home cinema model. It is great.
Perfect sound, crystallized and enormous woofer sound.
But...
...I have some problem with the subtitles.
With a USB disk I tried to play a movie with Greek subtitles but this is not possible because the subs are not in a position to read them.
You know it's something like that:
#$^%&&*())__(^$#@!~!
If the subs are in English format then i can read them.
I hope I make myself clear.
Please if anyone had solve this problem tell me the way.

Hi,
I would say that the character set (which is used in your Greek subtitle) is not supported...

Hi,
external subtitles (e.g. *.srt) are not supported on TVs...

Ok the tv do not support sub when playing movie via USB...I have tried to merge the movie and sub by useing AutoMKV....but this changes the format....I have tryied to convert to MKV, Mpeg2, mpeg4, WMV..NO GO... it looks like that the tv only can play files in VOB format....or am I doing some thing wrong???? Is there any program that can merge vob-fil whit the sub-fil whitout changing the format???? I also can not extract the sub fil...i know it is in the info fil but I can't isolate it and save it some where else....
Any help?+

Hi,
external subtitles (also in containers) are not supported - you can only recode the movie and integrate the subtitle directly in the video stream...
BTW. you need to be sure, that the codec of your (re-)coded movie is supported...

Hello Philips users,
My friend i have the same soundbar hts9140 and i have the same problem with the greek subtitles :"%^#*@#@^&".
when i use the english subtitles i can read them normally.
I tryed all the options, i also called the support center in Cyprus and they couldn't help me either!
what do you think i can do now?
P.S. I didn't understand exactly what your respond was to the first user.
Anyway, i think that Philips Moderator has to clarify this bug!

Hi,
can you change the character set while playing the file? With the BDPs you can press the option button and change the character set...

No you cannot.
There is no such option on .mkv files.
This option is only available on .xvid files...

Hi,
well - that bug was fixed in the last firmware of the BDPs (1.56) - hopefully they will fix that in HTS devices, too...

I found that the same problem was resolved with a new firmware for another type of philips device in this topic:
http://www.supportforum.philips.com/...hp/t-1204.html
, so the only thing we can do is wait for the Philips Moderator to resolve our problem too.
Thanks
