    No chance at all
As soon as I plugin a USB device everything freezes until I remove it again, then the remote control works as normal again.
So if there is no chance for updating via CD or during the bootup(with special press of key or something like that), I think I have to send it in to Philips Support...
    Any ideas?

i heard of using a cd to perform software upgrade. just burn the file "upg_all" to a cd and then let it load the file itself. but not sure if this model support this as well.(like playing normal dvd disc)
am not sure if that works for this player as well...
your player failed becos of the v1.53 firmware as well? just interested to know. cos mine works fine with v1.53 unlike most of you.

Yes, before the upgrade to 1.53 everything was working good. I did that yesterday and now I have these problems... The support (telephone) told me to ship in the BDP5100, but I am still looking for an option to downgrade anyhow
So if you have any ideas, I will listen for sure

Wow it really worked Thank you so much!
I copied the folder UPG_ALL to a DVD-R and this I inserted in the BDP5100, the installation started automatically and was succesful. It hang in the restart, but I pluged-off-on and it started with Version 1.31

    THANKS AGAIN

PS: Isnt it nice that Philips doesnt know its own features? ^^

    New firmware

I just saw on the support page of the bdp 5100 that the firmware release date changed to 10/3/2011 while the firmware version number does not changed. Is this a new firmware release? Also I can not access the changelog of the firmware (permission denied).

    Thanks

but if the file name or folder name is the same, wont it display something like "the firmware is the latest version already"?

The ZIP file might be the same, but the content could be different. I will test it today evening - Now I have a fall-back solution

    Hi,

as far as I can see, the firmware for BDP5100 was removed...

I'd like to ask Philips, if this "fix" is also for the BDP9600?

have uploaded to this directory for you all: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=KN78HR4U

in case your usb not working well, try to burn it into a disc and do the upgrade.
    wish you luck, bro.
Thanks Gretchen. Worked like a charm ! Version 1.31 installed with disc solution. Now we will just have to wait to see what Philips has in their box of firmware-surprises in the future. Thanks again.
