Blu-ray making headlines at CES 2011
Blu-ray fans will be happy to know that this fast-growing standard had plenty of time in the spotlight at CES this year. First there was the widely applauded announcement that the six-part Star Wars Saga will debut on Blu-ray in September 2011. Then there was the Technology & Engineering Emmy® Award that Royal Philips Electronics, Panasonic, Sony, and TDK Corporation were jointly honored with at CES for our contributions to the development of Blu-Ray.
Blu-ray also figured in two “firsts” announced by Philips this year – the first-ever dual-screen portable Blu-ray / DVD player with rechargeable battery (PB9013) and the first wireless HDMI Blu-ray Disc™ Player (BDP7580). The dual-screen portable Blu-ray / DVD player — a 2011 CEA Innovation Award winner – is designed for in-car use, but comes with a mounting kit so you can connect it to your TV at home and the wireless HDMI player is packed with entertainment-friendly features such as 3D playback, Philips MediaConnect, NetTV, Netflix™ and Blockbuster™ streaming all while eliminating unsightly wires in your home theater.
With all this advancement in Blu-ray and the growing number of movie and gaming titles announced for in 2011, this technology has clearly earned its star billing.
