Pixel format and black levels
Hi, i have a Philips 40PFL5507, connected to my PC with a HDMI 1.4 cable. In my Ati GFX card settings i can set the Pixel Format. I used to have this set to YCbCr 4:2:2. But i am experimenting with the settings and found that RGB has better colors. I have 4 options here:
- YCbCr 4:4:4
- YCbCr 4:2:2
- RGB 4:4:4 Pixel format Studio (limited RGB)
- RGB 4:4:4 Pixel format PC Standard (Full RGB)
Logically i would choose the last one since it says PC standard, but this introduces some kind of dynamic contrast where the blacks on an overall dark scene get really really dark. This does not happen on limited RGB.
I am confused which one i should choose, is RGB really better than YCbCr, and why does this contrast thing happen?
I have not set my TV to PC Mode because i like the Natural Motion feature. I have a feeling that PC Mode sets the black level to 0 - 255 and without PC Mode it is at 16 - 235, which could explain the problems with Full RGB and non-PC mode. Is this correct?
