Connecting the BDP7700 to a 21:9 56pfl9956
Hi,
I've connected a BDP7700 to a 21:9 56pfl9956. Bought the device specifically because it states on http://www.philips.nl/c/blu-ray-dvd/...specifications that it supports 21x9 resolution.
But in the configuration screen you can only select 4:3 and 16:9 wide, 16:9. No 21:9.
Is the specification page wrong? Or do I have to configure something additional?

Seems like I'm not the only one noticing this.
The subtitles are in the screen, but the rest of the player isn't.
Setting stuff to 'automatic' on the blu-ray does not seem to fix for instance:
- the menu's of the player itself
- the menu's of the blu-ray (see image below)
Philips should do what they say: make a 21:9 option on the blu-ray player and make sure the player itself is 1080p 21:9 anamorphic, so that it's optimally used on the screen (the tv offers perfect 1080p anamorphic stretching).
If the dvd/blu-ray image itself need to be zoomed it should be done without bordering the customer with the settings. If the menu of a blu-ray is 16:9, just show it as 16:9, don't fiddle around.
In my opinion Philips/TPV is not selling what they promise now. Bad for the reputation.
Example:
What will happen when you put the TV in 21:9 and the blu-ray in automatic mode is the following on for instance the Transfomers blu-ray (which is in 16x9 format, with the movie in 2.35:1 format):
* Start menu becomes corrupted (select bars go outside the menu):
* Menu goes out of image:
Thus, Philips: make the option to set 21:9 available on the BDP7700 just like you did on the BDP9500 (http://www.manualslib.com/manual/122...page=17#manual) / http://download.p4c.philips.com/file...05_dfu_eng.pdf (page 18)Last edited by will; 02-21-2013 at 07:16 PM.

Do you have the latest software in booth units? What happens if you select Autom. aanpassen on Blu-ray and auto zoom or unscaled on TV?

Latest software versions on both (updated via USB, as via wifi you don't get the really last version).
Auto adjust + auto zoom delivers a complete mess, see above.
What seems to work best is 16x9 on blu-ray and auto-zoom on tv. But all information from the blu-ray will put the movie out of 21x9 mode for the duration the menu or text is visible.
I really wonder if Oppo (with vertical strech) has fixed it in a better way, and how the BDP9500 fixed it.
