    Philips BDP5700

    Hi!

Early january I bought a Philips TV (42PFK6559/12); and to conclude my shopping I bought a Blu-ray player from Philips as well (BDP5700). To connect the Blu-ray player with the television set, I wanted to use a HDMI cable from "Hama" which is designed for "Ultra HD & 4K" -- but in the store it was advertised as being recommended for Blu-ray players as well.

Now,...comes my problem and my question.

I thought setting up a DVD- or Bluray-player was pretty dummy-proof, until yesterday.

Basically, when I connect the player with the HDMI-port from my television and I select the correct "source" -- there comes no signal (it even says so: "no signal"). I pressed the powerbutton on and off, I inserted a DVD disc,...

There is nothing wrong with the HDMI-cable itself, because when I connected it to my laptop instead, I was able to watch it on my television.

I'm now watching "The West Wing" on my television through the DVD-player on my laptop -- and this isn't really what I had in mind when I bought a Blu-ray-player yesterday.

Maybe I have to buy a new HDMI-cable (with 3 stars, instead of 5 stars?) since the television set isn't an "Ultra HD" or "4K". But then again, my laptop screen resolution isn't exactly Ultra HD or 4K either...

I want to make sure, because an HDMI-cable costs about half the Blu-ray-player.

Or...is there just somehting wrong with the Blu-ray-player?

    Thanks for your time,

    Kind regards,

    Jan.

    Hello Jan,

    Thank you for your post.

Did you enable EasyLink in your player? It's explained on page 9-10 of the user manual:

Janpor - for info, you should be able to pick up HDMI cables pretty cheaply. For example, in the UK, I've bought cables for £3 and less which have worked perfectly well.
(But yes, plenty of shops are happy to sell them for insane amounts and insist that you need them for X, Y, Z feature - they are generally also happy to lie about this.)
