    BDP5500/05 - Skype Problem

    I purchased a Skype ready Blu Ray player for the Skype option as I don't really need a new TV. I cannot connect toSkype. I have contacted Philips, they suggested I contact Skype. Skype suggested I contact Philips so Im a little stuck. Could anyone help with my problem? Some details below.

    Device is wired directly into router. There is an internet connection as Netflix works. Skype can access host. When you sign in initially says 'you don't seem to have an active internet connect' but then if you try again it sits at signing in for some time. Even if you try to create a new account it sits on the registering screen without doing anything.

    Hi,

    Skype isn't supported anymore on BDPs... cause Microsoft changed the Skype protocol and the used Skype version in the BDPs isn't supported anymore.

    Hello,

    As Microsoft has upgraded Skype client software, BDP5500 does not support Skype features anymore. This model is unfortunately irreparable.

    Please contact your local Philips dealer for a solution.

    Thanks for all the help. I'll have to see if I can take it back. Although it would be good if Skype removed Bluray options from their site and Philips changed their website re these products.
