Finally with this 3.71 firmware I solved all the issues related to 3D (which came out after updating firmware from the working one 3.34 to that "buggy" 3.46 or 3.53).

With 3.71 now I can see any 3D blu-ray without any video problem.
As I asserted, no problems were related to Philip's TV (40pfl8606), to glasses (PTA517 and PTA507) or other settings!

After updating my BR becomes randomly unresponsive. First after update, if rebooted but refused to open the tray. I had to disconnect the power to get it back. Next, after playing a YouTube video, it stopped responding and again I had to take the power off.

    Hello Dear Support Team,

I upgrade my BDP-7700 with new version V 3.71 (now instaled 3'th version), and still have the same problem. I use it as a media centre, use external 1TB USB HDD (3,5"), and have the following problem: When I want to play same mkv. 3D videos, which player can not read, player search for an infinite. Can't go back, or stop, or go to home menu. I have to disconnect from the electricity. Once again run the player ... I have to say that I lose my desire to watch video.
I think it should after a certain time, when player can't read file (after 30-60sec) go back to start menu.
When I play same files through the TV that let me know: "I can not read" ( cc 30sec) and then can I choose another file that works.
I will not only criticized, 60 percent of the films 3D work perfectly. Can read subtitles too, see:

    Regards, Miro

I did a factory reset a while ago. But my player still has a lot of issues. Especially with resuming when a disc is already in the player, just like before the update. It will freeze completely without starting anything. It only shows the background of the player's main menu and the player itself is showing "DVD" (in this case). Totally unresponsive. I have to unplug the device to get it working again.

Even after unplugging it will sometimes not start properly. And just now it did show the main menu for a second before deciding it had a dvd inside and then it froze again.

To get the disc out I have to unplug it, plug it back in, and keep pressing the eject button repeatedly to catch it before it starts to think. Only then will it work again.

Have been using this player for a month now (had a 7600 before, this one broke down after 2 years). With my 7700 I have same issues as mentioned above: freezes, especially from standby with a disk already in player, display is showing 'DVD', one cure is to unplug ...
@Philips: I hope you can/will fix this soon (my previous 7600 had same issues).

Like mirob I have got the same issues. When trying to play a 3D MKV from USB connection the player gets stuck. The screen turns purple, display says AUTO or PLAY but nothing happens any more. NO reaction on remote control or buttons. Needs to disconnect from power before anything works again

    Angry

I have exactly the same problems with my BDP7700 for over a half year now, and it really spoils the pleasure of seeing movies. It sometimes needs several power turnoff/on, especially if there is a disc in the player. I have upgrad the firmware og factory reset to times now, and nothing helps. I can't believe, that they are not able to solve these problems at Philips. I have a lot of Philips products (4 TV's and DVD- and blu-ray players) but this one really sucks, and I am seriously thinking about replacing it with another - but not a Philips...

Obtained a BDP7700/12 (firmware v 3.71) in August and was impressed by my first 3D viewing. As above startup with a DVD already in the tray hangs about 1/3 of all attempts and can only be cleared by pulling and reinserting the power cable. A hang on startup with already loaded DVD is 100% certain if : 1. the DVD is a 2-layer disc 2. previous viewing left off somewhere in the 2nd layer or 3. 1st layer was finished in previous viewing and left off on the next main menu item pointing into the 2nd layer.

    Dear avo,

Thanks for letting we know this.

We are working on a firmware to resolve the hang up issue.
Since there are other benefits like Smart TV improvements etc, the firmware can only be released in around Dec tentatively.

    Kind regards,

    Dear Philips,
You have a serious problem with the hang-up issue of the blu-ray products. I had a 7600 (which was broken down before 2 years). This was replaced by Philips by a 7700 (which was not new but used and scratched).
My previous 7600 had lot of hang-up problems (not solved with any upgrade) and finally broke down 3 months ago before expiring the guarantee period. Philips replaced it by a 7700, which surprisingly for me was not new and it was completely scratched. I was not happy by the fact of it was not new, but I take it home to test it (in the momment I didn't notice of the scratch problem of the top cover).
Finally I tested it, and 1 of 2 times I tested, I had to unplug the BR. I returned the blu-ray to Philips for giving a serious solution.
After several discussions, the solution given by Philips is to replace the top cover of the BR. They told me that now (after the last miracolous upgrade) it works perfectly. And about the fact of the BR is not new, they told me that it had only 2 working hours (which is a complete lie, I know a little bit about this...). I won't argue anymore, but after more than 60 Philips products bought (and a lot of money spent), I won't buy anything else of Philips.
By the way, now I understand why my previous 7600 was broken down. The internal hardware (power supply and related cards) doesn't like a lot the plug-unplug procedure. The voltage glitches produced in that process do not feel very good to the internal cards....
PS: I have a 5500 with the same nasty problem

I own this player with the latest firmware and I get frequently 'freeze' problems. The only solution is to pull the power plug and restart. also I still frequently hangs if a dvd/blu ray is loaded before power up.
