    Thumbs up Technical feedback - FW v3.5.0.1 - for 32x8, 42x8, 44x8, 45x8, 49x8 and 50x8 - 2013

    Hi all.

The new FW is now live.

    For details please see here:

    32x8: http://philips.to/NwQaDi
    42x8/44x8/45x8/49x8: http://philips.to/1epcvgJ
    50x8: http://philips.to/OA6Uuo

This thread is for technical feedback only. For other discussions please post in the related discussion thread. "Off topic" posts regarding the firmware will be moved to the experience thread.

    Important:
After upgrading your TV, it is necessary to perform a "cold start". This means that, after the TV is running again (after the update), shut down the TV, wait 1 minute (till all components are shut down), and unplug the TV from the mains (pull power cord) for 2 minutes before starting again.

Please use the following template in this thread:

    TV Model: 39PFL4218H
    Previous Firmware: 3.0.0.1

    Positive:
+ Merging SD/HD versions under same channel number works with all channels now; previously would be done only for 1 of the 4 available ones.
However some are listed as SD then HD version, and some as HD then SD version. Not sure if normal.

    Negative:
    - Annoying 'Network settings modified. Update now ?' (or something similar in french version) still appears on some channels after turning on the TV
Only disappears when saying 'No', until you switch off and on again.
Saying 'Yes' does not change anything: no channels removed - actually there is no displayed number - and none added, and the message usually repeats until you say 'No'.

    - Merged SD/HD versions still not behaving correctly when changing channel.
Ex: there are ch1, ch2 (SD and HD versions - listed in this order - sharing the same number), ch3
Being on ch1, doing ch+ goes to the SD version of ch2 (instead of the expected HD version). Doing ch+ again goes to ch3.
Being on ch3, doing ch- goes to the HD version of ch2.
The same happens reversed if SD and HD variants are listed in reversed order.
Being anywhere, it also seems that entering the channel number of ch2 goes to the first listed version, which can thus be the SD one instead of the HD one.

    Related bug:
Add those channels to the favorites, filtering the list to only view those: being on ch1 and doing ch+ goes to ch3 instead of ch2. Being on ch3 and doing ch- does go to ch2.

    - When switching on the TV, it still takes a long time (around 10s or more) before being able to do anything (change channel, volume, etc).

    - Tried to use a 16GB USB flash drive to timeshift. TV formatted it and tested speed, which was OK, but actually refused to save to it saying the available space was not enough.
Fair enough. Now I completely erased it (reset partition scheme, redo partition, reformat FAT32), but I have the feeling that the TV somehow remembers that this drive was previously configured: when connecting it, the TV does not try anymore to show its content (as it did before, and as it still does with other drives), while I can still manually do it using the Menu.
But a little more annoying is the fact that if I try to save the channels list on USB, it always fails for this drive.

Note: if that matters for the first negative point, most of the DTV multiplexes were manually added. Those are actually terrestrial signals (between 470 and 606 MHz) technically moved to other frequencies (between 400 and 470 MHz, which are not scanned automatically by the TV) and broadcasted through coaxial cable in the city.

    ============================
    TV Model: 46PFL4208T/12
    Previous Firmware: 3.2.0.1

    Positive:
+ fixed: volume indicator now always visible

    Negative:
    - not fixed: DVB subtitles on DVB-C Finnish YLE HD channels not working correctly: previous subtitles are partly visible when new subtitles are shown ie. if the new subtitle is shorter than the last one, the part that was longer is also shown. Also first line of two line subtitles is not shown if previous subtitle only had single line.
Subtitles work correctly on DVB-C regular SD (YLE) channels

    - not fixed: TV does not find DLNA shares immediately if wifi is used, have to wait 3-4 minutes! before DLNA share is found. It finds shares immediately if wired connnection is used. There are no problems playing media on wifi, but if you use any other source, and go back to network source, it says it cannot connect to DLNA source(s) and you have to wait 3-4 minutes again!
Speed is shown as 130Mbps, full quality, WPA2+PSK

    - not fixed: Overscan on video files (usb, dlna)

    - not fixed: Finnish MTV3 HbbTV news video stops shortly after starting it (wireless + wired)

    - not fixed: contrast, brightness, color temperature settings are not respected when using teletext, hbbtv, or internet browser. This is annoying when using in dark ambience and screen goes very bright

    - not fixed: while playing video from usb or dlna source, pressing 'format' button stops the playback and goes to live tv and shows the format menu there

    TV Model: 22PFL4208K/12 Serial: FZ1A1324021395
    Previous Firmware: TPM1013E_003.002.000.001
    Positive:
    + acceptable speed for booting

    Negative:
    - Overall menu navigation speed slightly slower compared to the previous firmware version.

    - During playback via USB the "FORMAT" button on the remote control is useless. When pressed the TV switch to the DVB source (interrupting the playback) and then appears the "FORMAT" window.
To change FORMAT in playback mode is necessary bass by "OPTIONS" menu, after select "IMAGE & SOUND" and finally is possible select "IMAGE FORMAT".

    - About the zoom-scale/overscan image problem, already complained from other users, I hope that the attached picture is quite explanatory about the amount of cropped image.

To the present day, with digital source, a cropped image is unacceptable, overscanned image may have sense for TV DVB, but when I play a file with precise dimensions I want see all amount of image.
The fastest solution is make available the "UNSCALED" option for any source.
The frames are taken from an Xvid .avi file via USB.

    - mkv file with aspect ratio thinner than 16/9 continue to be displayed vertically stretched to fill the screen (with .mp4 and .avi file this problems does not happen).

Hi Ina, the problem is still there,

TV Model: 47PFL5038H/12 Serial Number: FZ1A1403041354
    Previous Firmware: TPM1013E_003.002.000.001

    Negative:

    - When i play on Playstation3 i put TV on Game mode on or turned off and it doesn't scale right it zooms the image with "widescreen" activated but when i put it on Computer mode on it scales right. When its on Computer mode if i change something on image options color contrast etc... it doesnt work.

    - When i change aspect ratio during playing games it changes me the dynamic contrast to minimum so i have to enter to options again and turn it off.

    - Number and Tv name channel doesnt display always like volume icon.

    TV Model: 46PFL4208T/12
    Previous Firmware: 3.2.0.1

    Negative:
    - After daylight saving time began, hbbtv clock has gone wrong. It shows 2 hours ahead of current time.
Internal guide has correct time. Hbbtv clock cannot be fixed with manual or automatic clock setting, nor setting daylight saving or standard time setting. With daylight saving setting, hbbtv clock is 2 hours ahead, and with standard time setting it is one hour behind.
Clock was correct when standard time was in use.

    TV Model: 46PFL4908H/12
    Previous Firmware: 3.2.0.1

    Positive:
    - No hanging on startup in 2 weeks so i guess it's finally fixed. I guess automatic net tv login on startup was the culprit.
    -Overscan in miracast is fixed

    Negative:
    - EPG accesed through the guide button on remote is broken. Works after manual refresh and pressing up or down button. EPG accesed in home - guide or through recordings works fine. Usb recording works fine.
    - Playing youtube video from android before starting net tv for the first time results in warning about net tv not beeing logged in. Instead of displaying this warning the tv should just log in and continue to youtube.
    - When playing pictures with dlna there is tv sound creeping in
    - evergreen bug with large difference in volume between 10 and 11

Overall this seems the most usable firmware yet

    TV: 42PFL5028/H12
    FW v3.5.0.1 (3.05)

    - Still slow menu navigation

    - After start-up, TV takes 30 secs - 1 minute to react to any remote command

    - Smart TV takes ages to start-up (~20 secs)

    - Sometimes TV doesn't react to channel up or down, feels like it has to wake up from something again, after the initial response (e.g. channel) it's back alive again.

    - I noticed when you change the scaling settings, for some settings the colorfulness/brightness/contrast is different from e.g. 16:9 scaling. Either it forgets the settings or follows a different processing path ?

    - Could you add direct input IR switching commands ? Makes my life with a Logitech Harmony a bit easier...

    - HDMI CEC (EasyLink) is unusable for me with a Onkyo Receiver. Could you add an option to DISABLE power control ? When I connect my receiver to my TV via HDMI ARC and just want to listen to the radio on my Onkyo, I don't want the TV to be switched on.

    Forgot one thing:

PS4 sometimes shows overscan problems (scaling ??) in the horizontal direction. I have the PS4 set up correctly, but noticed that for one game (Infamous Second Son) the subtitles are partly under the last vertical line on the screen.

The PS4 has the option to define the area in which games & apps can render, so basically the underscan/overscan area. Either the game does something wrong or the TV.

    @frgo:

I confirm the EPG is also not ok on the 42PFL5038. After you press the GUIDE button, the EPG is empty. No programs are show. They appear after you press up/down, so navigate through the slots.
