no quality BDP5180 no read Bluray "unknown disk"
Hello, this is outrageous.
Philips bluray decks fail after 2 years of moderate use (for me 60 hours of use), they indicate "unknown disk", full of French users talk on web forums dedicated French.
This should be supported even out of warranty, it is a manufacturing defect.
Car manufacturers do it well. We buy philips thinking have quality and it was a nasty surprise after 2 years of purchase (I bought my bdp5180 in 10/2010).
Indeed, my deck starts to indicate "unknown disk" on some discs bluray brand new (which were read carefree few months ago). I installed the 1.62 update yet., and my discs are europe area.
too disappointed
A French user

Hi, it’s just a matter of software and it happens to all manufactures, not only Philips. I recommend you to post in this tread with required information:

I have exactly the same problem with my BDP5180 (I also live in France) I loaded the new firmware but that resolves none of the problems. The unknown disc symptom started while loading Ironman 2, which I'd read at least 9 or 10 times with no problems, but now it occurs on most of my Blurays.
I also agree with sfduf concerning the support, Philips should make an effort by handling repairs out of warranty, my deck is only 2 years old ! Cheap components make customers flee to other brands....
PS @ Mr barton this problem has NOTHING to do with software

@supawil if software does not fix the issue, please contact a service centre!

I contacted the repair service who told me that the cost of service on Bluray desks is 100€ ! And that is for any kind of repair !
Adieu Philips....
