Exclamation GoGear RaGa 4GB Locks up on boot, cannot update firmware or reset

Have an older (4 years-ish) GoGear Raga MP3 player that freezes on power-up. It goes through the series of start-up screens and locks up without ever showing the "Updating" screen.

Steps we have taken to resolve the issue:
    • Soft reset using the small reset button on the bottom of the player
    • Updating firmware by connecting to the Songbird application
    • An idea found online to factory reset by holding the up-volume button and the power button (nothing happens after 10 minutes)
    • Using the Songbird application to repair the device by plugging it in while holding the up-volume button (nothing happens after > 15 minutes of waiting) - have tried multiple model numbers as I do not know the specific model number

Any help or insight into how to resolve this would be greatly appreciated.

    For What it is worth:

The device now shows a language I do not recognize when it is first plugged into a USB cable.

    I get 2 options:
    • "Nabit a pienest"
    • "Nabit a piehrat"

If I take no action, or select "[n]abit a pienest" the device goes into a connected mode showing a picture of a computer (I think) and the device connected by a line with the text "Nabijeni..." underneath.

If I select "[n]abit a piehrat" the device locks up, just like on a normal boot.

(Some accent marks are left off the displayed text)

    Hi there,

Someone might be able to help you but you need to give us your model number first, as all MP3/MP4 differ in small details. Take the device in yoru hands and look around it, the model number definitely will be there.
    Cheers

Honestly, there is no model number marked anywhere on the casing.

    Text on the device
    --- --- --- --- --- ---
    Front:
    • PHILIPS

    Top:
    • MIC

    Sides: no markings
    Bottom:
    • RESET
    • A small lock symbol
    • A power symbol (binary representation 1 imposed over a 0)

    Back:
    • GoGear RaGa
    • 4GB
    • No disposal symbol (trash can with an X superimposed)
    • CE symbol
    • A small bar, checkmark with a black circle around it, FCC marking (I think) and two small circular symbols (one has a P and maybe a C in it) and some unreadable text underneath them - I looked with a small microscope)
    • Philips Consumer Lifestyle
    • Made in China / Rated 5V-0.5A
    • Then three lines in (I believe) French that are too worn off to read easily. Maybe if I knew the language better.

That's all - no model number that I see.

    Pictures to follow shortly.

My son's RaGa (the broken one is my daughter's) has a sticker on it with its model number. They are identical, in all respects, physically, and they were purchased at the same time.

    His model number is SA2RGA04KS/37.

He keeps his in the neoprene case that came with it (all the time) so the lettering on his is much easier to read.

    Hey trckrhntr,

Thanks for your effort! Now, since you know the model number, try repairing it with Songbird for the right model. If it doesn't help, I'd suggest servicing it...

    Good luck,
    WW

    Thanks for the response.

I have retried Songbird with the specific model number. As in past attempts, nothing happens. I taped the volume button on, put it into repair mode and let it sit for an hour. Nothing. The screen stays completely blank and the Songbird application message never goes away.

How do I get the device serviced?

It depends on which country you live in. For the UK you can find all the info here http://www.support.philips.com/suppo...questid=308097

If you live in any other country, call the Philips call centre in your country and they will advise you where to get it serviced or you might find info about it on your country's website.

    Hope this helps,
    WW
