BDP8000/12 - Dolby True HD and DTS HD is not available

Dear Sirs,
I ask for help for the following problem: playing the audio such as Dolby True HD and DTS HD is not available.
I own an amplifier A / V Marantz SR6004 with HDMI input version 1.3a and a "Sony Playstation" current model with HDMI output version 1.4.
When I play a suitable bluray disc with the PS3 and I connect the PS3 with HDMI high speed cable to the relative input of the Marantz, I can see on the display of the amplifier DTS HD audio codec without any problem.
But if I connect the Philips player exactly in the same way as above, I can not get the DTS HD encoding on the display of the Marantz; I can see only a flashing "PCM" symbol.
Using the control panel of the BDP8000 I have updated the software and tried to set audio and video in every way, but without success.
Marantz is always flashing with the word "PCM ".
Therefore I am asking: what kind of problem could be there, as with the PS3 everything works well, although my amp has HDMI inputs glli vers. 1.3?

Can i know what type of disc you are trying to play or is it a USB file or via DLNA? Also maybe need to check the settings for audio in the BDP setup menu?

I have tryed to play many different Bluray Discs (save the soldier Ryan or Avatar foe example), but the output I obtain in my a/v amplifier is always the same....a flashing tag "PCM"..
I have tryed also all the possible audio settings of the BDP8000/12: no result at all
(with the sony playstation you can set properly the audio output and you can choose what do you prefer and everything in running well as I wrote before)
Using the audio settings of BDP8000/12 you can not decide
Infact my question is how it recognise the right audio output if I can not set it?
(obviously the first thing I have done is to upgrade the firmware of the BDP8000/12 using my wirless internet connection)

Our testing team tried to reproduce your issue, but unfortunately we could not. The BDP8000 is outputting bitstream to a Denon AV receiver. Summary of results:

HDMI Audio
[Bitstream] = receiver gets bitstream audio
[Auto] = receiver gets PCM audio

Hence, we would like to ask you for a list of your problem discs so that we can try to reproduce the exact issue.Kindly tell us the EAN (the number under the bar code) and the title name of the disc. You can send us the list via PM.

As a matter of fact, HDMI [Auto] should identify a Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD MA capable processor upon HDMI protocol negotiation, as in A/V receivers, but instead it settles for PCM multichannel.

While this may pose no problem for playing back a multitrack recording it prevents the user to enjoy an external processor and it is confusing to users who rely on automatic adjustments.

In my personal experience with this sort of processing and playback I always preferred the audio signal being sent as native bitstream and let the decoding be done at the processor level.

Failure of the [Auto] setting to establish a non-PCM processing should, in my opinion, be reviewed, as it becomes a non-intuitive and sometimes misleading adjustment.

I have encountered the same problem.
My A/V receiver is an Onkyo TX-NR609 and with the blu ray
The Killers: Live From The Royal Albert Hall Blu-ray
I only receive PCM audio on my a/v receiver. If I force the player to bitstream, DTS and Dolby Digital audio are not available.

Just for the record (and I hope this helps) I have recently installed a similar receiver, namely the Onkyo TX-NR708, with the Philips BDP8000/78 (firmware version 1.56) feeding HDMI audio set to bitstream, and I had no problems playing whichever discs are inserted into the player.

Actually, all the new 2010/2011 Onkyo receivers are capable to identify and play the recently undocumented DTS HD MA 5.1 ES off Blu-Ray discs such as the Lord of The Rings trilogy, Monsters, Inc., Wall-E, The Incredibles, etc.

If this is an isolated incident and assuming that both the receiver and the Philips are correctly configured, and you're using reliable HDMI cabling, there is a chance that the disc you are playing is defective. If not, either the Philips or the Onkyo have a problem.

If you have a PC with a Blu-Ray drive it might be a good idea to check if these soundtracks can be identified by the player.
