BDP3380/12: can't play home made BD-R ('unknow disc')

I just found out that my BDP3380/12 doesn't play any home made BD-R discs. Up till now I created several discs:
    - holiday movies made into a 'real' blu-ray disc using OS X & Toast Titanium
    - a disc with recorded and converted tv-material (vhs -> mkv)
    - a back-up disc of a commercial blu-ray (which is legal in The Netherlands)

All discs are UDF formated discs and can be played in the burning device (Samsung external unit). However, the Philips 3380/12 player doesn't recognise those discs and shows 'unknown format'. A friend with a Samsung player doesn't have this problem with the discs. So the problem will be the latest firmware with the Cinavia protection. I can live (more or less) with the fact that I can't play copies of commercial discs, but it would be nice to watch the material for which I own the copyright or the vhs-rips.

So basically I have two questions:
    - Is this problem related to the firmware that handles the Cinavia copyprotection?
    - And if so: is there a way to downgrade the firmware or avoid this problem?

Off course I asked the boys & girls at Philips about it. They told me to make sure the discs are finalised. I checked the writing software for this and found out I'm already finalizing all the discs I'm writing.

    Hello Henry Grrr!

I would like to start by thanking you for joining us on the forum and naturally welcoming you here as well. It is excellent of you to reach out to us about your player. In order for us to be on the same page I will need to ask you a few things if that is ok and I will keep it super short so we can get started as soon as possible. OK?
Do you get a cinavia pop up message when you try to play these discs?
These discs contain movies that are not from a camera like a birthday party but original movies like let’s say Dumbo. Right?
As for your second question, no you can’t. Firmware versions are not downgradable I am afraid.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

    Many regards,
    Philips - Katerina

First of all, thanks for you prompt reaction!
No, I don't get a Cinavia pop up: the player just shows the main menu and in the upper left corner is the 'unknown disc' message.
The discs I created contains indeed movies from (birthday)parties etc.

Since I am a Mac user, there aren't any tools that really provide 'deep info' regarding the used discs. Toast 14 Titanium (the application I use for creating the blu-ray discs) gave me these id's for the discs: PHILIPR02 ('Variox' brand printed on the disc) and 'MBIR06' ('ISY' brand printed on the disc)
