    Exclamation HTS5581/98 chinese subtitle problem

I have a HTS5581/98 system, when playing movie from external mobile HD, i put the srt file together with the movie.
if the movie is MP4 format, i can not choose the sub-title character type, so the subtitle become un-readable. while if the movie is another format (for example MKV), i can choose sub-tile character.

I believe this is bug. Philipls, please update the firmware and solve this problem.

Ok, I think this problem span over all the new Bluray home theater system with DivX+ HD certification. There is no such problem happen on the old model, with only DivX Ultra certification. Of course, DivX+ HD will have the ability to play H264 encoded MP4 or MKV video. Divx Ultra only play old H263 encoded AVI video file.

But the Chinese subtitle character type issue is not only affecting the mp4 format only, it is affecting all the file that is provided with external SRT subtitle file. From other forum, I know that this is not the bugs, but is something that is not supported by the player.

There is issue for the SRT file over the DLNA as well.

The player seems only works on the subtitle embedded into the MKV container.
My HTS3562/98 also having the same problem, where I can't set the charset for the external SRT file.

You can use mkvmerge GUI v.2.9.5 to solve the problem.
You can remux the MP4 and MKV file, with external SRT file, into a new MKV file.
Choose the correct charset at mkvmerge GUI software for the SRT file, and the player will show the subtitle correctly.

Well, this is still a software bug for the home theater system where it can't set and show proper charset for external subtitle file.

hi alan, i still believe this is bug.

because when play MKV file, there is a option for me to choose the character type, and if i choose the chinese character, the sub-title can display correctly, but while when playing mp4, this option is disappeared.

the same problem happens here http://www.supportforum.philips.com/...inese-subtitle

any seems philips already fix the bug for other model.

    Yes, you were right.
Just now try with the HTS3562/98, the charset can be set by playing MKV.
Not try out the MP4 with subtitle yet.
