BDP9600 does not play blu ray anymore

    Greetings to all.

Hope somebody is able to help me out.
My BDP9600 has stopped reading blu ray discs. DVD discs still work fine but blu rays do not work any more. It will say "unknown disc"
I tried to reinstall an older firmware but it will not allow me to do so. Tried via USB and network. Both without succes.
Not so long I inserted the code to make the DVD play region free. I am almost certain after that I still watched a blu ray disc. Also recently I have unplugged while cleaning the furniture the player sits in.
Anyway. Any suggestions from your side on how to resolve my problem? Much appreciated for any support.

Have you tried a factory reset?
If this doesn't help I would clean the laser and also lift up the laserhead and clean underneath. Beware this is only to be done by a professional.
    Good luck!

On second thought, I don't think it's the laser. I've just experienced that too many lasers are changed, when all that was needed was cleaning below the focus lens.
You should try to install the latest firmware through USB, then make a factory reset.

Sorry for the late update. Turns out I can send the player at my own expence. ( out of warrenty)
I will get a lens cleaner 1st to see if that will work. Tried to install an older firmware but no succes. Wonder if the region free hack is preventing this from working? I do not know. Anyway, if the cleaner will not work I have no other option but send it to their repair center. That is going to be expensive

    Cleaning the laser may work.
As you may know the BDs track is 0,32 micron compared to 0,74 for DVDs. A little dust buildup may trigger the unknown disc error.

Here is a guide for cleaning lasers. Please be carefull!!! I would try just to clean the top of the lense.

You can also buy a cleaning disc, if you don't dare to open the player.

    GOOD LUCK!!!

Would it matter if I was to use a DVD cleaner instead of a specific blu ray cleaner?

No I have not tried yet. Sorry for not explaining correctly. I have a DVD cleaner disc. I know there are discs that are said to be for blu ray specific (+DVD). Would it work if I inserted a DVD cleaning disc or would it damage the lens? Would I need a disc that it said to be for blu ray specific. Hope that clarifies

You can use the disc at hand. No worries!
I would rather open the player, and clean it by hand.

Ok great. I will try that then. If it does not work I will open it to see if there is any dust/dirt. If all that will not have any positive effect I will have no other option but to send it to the philips repair center.

Just try the disc, if no success, then send the player. No need for opening the player as well, this is just for better cleaning.
    Good luck!!!

Hi, well this is a tricky one. If you had not made the player region free, It could either be an issue with the disc reader or more likely the software. However I do not know how, if your player after making player region free disable some reading functions or conflicted current software. Your best bet is to seek assistance at local service centre, but this case, based on my experience, will not be covered by warranty.
