9700: little feature requests for the panel's LED display

    Hi

As someone pointed out earlier, Philips should make good use of 9700's LED display. There are a few things we can improve with little effort. Hence, it can cheer up your users if harder issue take longer time to fix.

    1. "Play" is displayed on the LED display whenever the track changes. It's an annoyance and bring no value by display "Play". Simply skip "Play" display pls. Go direct to tracker number and time display that follows. This will also give users the impression that 9700 responses quickly!

    2. When press REPEAT, 9700's LED display cycles through "RPT TRACK" / "RPT DISC" / "RPT OFF". The problem is with "RPT TRACK". Seems the LED is not wide enough to fully display "RPT TRACK". Hence, Philips engineers decide to scroll from right to left. This is really annoying because it takes time for the users to confirm what's the action in place. Simply change to "RPT TRK" is probably way more useful. This also gives users the impression that 9700 responses quickly!

    Thanks

    Thanks QK

To add more info on Suggestion #1.

When a CDDA disc has text info mastered (e.g. album title / singer / track title ), 9700 will attempt to display all these on the panel's LED display, apparently with text scrolling from right to left most of the time.

So when a track advances, 9700 will display "Play" then album title (scroll..scroll..) then album artist (scroll...scroll..) then track name (scroll ... scroll)...then eventually back to track # and track time.

To some, this is a nice gimmick or a desirable feature. To others, it's painly annoying. Scrolling text is very difficult to read.

So it's desirable that 9700 adds a new preference setting that gives users the option to keep the current behaviour or turn off "Play" & CD text info display completely.

I second that and already mentioned it in the "Room for Improvement" section here.

    Hi Levinas

Sorry back from a trip. Hopefully I didn't set your expectation high.

In Settings, you can select "Normal" and "Dim" for the brightness of the LED display. Worth trying "Dim" if you haven't done so.

If you open the case, disconnecting a few cables to the Display Unit Board should turn off LED. But this will void your warranty. So don't try.
