Can't exit Android App any more

After the most recent update to the Android app I can't exit it any more, and it just keeps running, consuming RAM. Only way to get rid of it is via Application manager and killing it. Before if I hit the Android 'back' key in the main screen it asked me if I wanted to exit, but that doesn't have any effect any more. This happens both on my Galaxy Tab 2 tablet and my Huawei G510 phone.

No that didn't work, not that I expected it to.

    Indeed, can't exit the app.

I like the new app as if you don't stream music from your PC (from a server) you can disable that part and only / directly access the services (Deezer, Radios, etc.).

Hi AlunS, I can exit the App but need to press twice of Android back button in the Play or Service Page in the AirStudio App. And after i quit the App, AirStudio is removed by my Running App list in "Settings" -> "App". Should it be the correct behavior ?

But I am using Sony Xperia Z, so may have different behaviors ?

Yes, that is what used to happen until I installed the latest update, v2.3.8. Now I can press the back button forever and nothing happens. Very annoying.

    Dear AlunS,

Would you be so kind to send us the screenshot with non-working back button?
It seems to us that it works on our Android phone.

    With thanks & regards,

Hi, I think the back button should be worked at two screens as below:

Hi, well after a lot of experimentation it does seem to work, but only if I'm in the very top level home screen of either Play or Services. So not when there's a browse window open for a source in Play, or if you've tapped on a speaker in the Services Menu. I'm sure this is different behaviour to before, but now I'm not sure !

Yes, the behavior is different. In almost pages in the App, Philips disable the Android Back button, but we can use the App's back button (on the top left corner) to do the "back" operation.

I think this change is not bad, before upgrade App, I always press the Android back button if i want to go the previous page, but finally it will jump to the service page directly, quite annoying

The tablet / android back button does not longer work. When you go to Deezer (as an example) and listen to music, you can use the app (Airstudio) back button and will be able to go back to the Service Menu related to the device but you won't be able to go back to the first main menu (to change the device or whatever) besides, indeed the tablet / android back button does not work hence you won't be able to exit the Airstudio app.

So there are 2 new issues with this new Airstudio release.
Indeed, with previous release we could press twice the Android back buttion to exit (after confirmation) Airstudio, this is gone with the new app. Tested on Nexus 7 and on my Xperia Z. Same issues.

Sincerely, I don't see the point sending screen shots, the developers will be able to see this on their own (although wondering why they did not identify this when testing. So obvious.)

Not being able to use the android back button is a good thing in my opinion. You don't want to know how often I accidentally killed the app because of this button. On the other hand you could say that the android back button should have the same function as the app's back button and you should press the android home button to quit the application. That would make sense.
I haven't tried the new app yet, I only found the update this morning on my phone and tablet. I am curious to see what will happen when I start playing with it tonight...

[edit] I am a bit hesitant after reading some of the remarks of users in the play store.... Writing an decent app appears to be extremely difficult[/edit]

mmk, I agree with you that getting rid of one of the back button is a good thing.
However, the way it is implemented creates 2 issues:
1- You can't exit the app anymore
2- You can't go back to the main and first menu (which is a problem if you own several devices as it is the one that is needed when you switch from one device to the other).
Apart from that, playing only Deezer, I found the app pretty stable and the overall service reliable despite my very poor WIFI.
The 'back' issue is annoying but not really impacting (as we have other means to kill an app).

If you read the release notes to the last version, you'll see that disabling the back button was a conscious choice for the reason mmk describes. As Volume writes, you have to press the back button on one of the two screens in his screenshots to exit the app. When you have entered a speaker or receiver, you can go back to the "Services" screen by pressing the CD/Receiver icon to the left in the bottom row of buttons. So you can still exit the app with two presses. First the CD icon, then the back button.

I was away for few days.
Indeed, I found the path to the exit.
