Gogear Raga 4gb SA4RGA04/kn12 upgrade issues

I bought this player yesterday and it works mostly fine, when I'm alone in a quiet room at least.

The first issue is that I can't upgrade the device. According to the devices information, the current driver is 1,01. I installed Philips Device Manager first (since it came with the Mp3 player). It said an "IMPORTANT" update is available and I told it to download and install it. However I got a error during the installation process and now Philips Device Manager says I have the latest firmware even though I'm still in 1,01 according to both Philips Device Manager and the device itself.

I decided to try to repair the device by holding the + button while connecting it until Philips Device Manager tells me I can release as I'm instructed. However, the only thing that happens is that when I connect the player I get a message on the device saying "FW UPGRADING do not disconnect" and it stays like that for hours. I gave up holding the + within minutes since nothing happened in Philips Device Manager.

I tried installing Songbird and it crashes when I attempt to repair. Every time I connect the device, crash.

Am I stuck with firmware 1,01? I've tried reseting factory settings, the reset button underneath, and formatting without any luck. I can't repair the device.

The second issue is that I can't raise volume past 16. I have held the + button down to "unlock" max volume, 16 is the max. If there is any ambient noise going on like cars driving by I can't hear anything except the highest notes from the music. No longer do I hear the finer details such as soft drum hits or background instruments etc.

The earphones that come with the device are horrible. Using different ones helps slightly but still, it's not enough.

    Hi Mongbat,

Have you tried updating the sw via Songbird? If this doesn't help-> service it.
Oh, and 16 is the max volume in this model.

As last resort I'd go for the troubleshooting tool: http://www.p4c.philips.com/cgi-bin/c...scy=DK&slg=AEN

If all of that fails-> service it.

    Hope something helps. Good luck!

Thanks William Wallace. I'm not exactly sure how I update using Songbird. I tried googling it and was told that under the "Tools" tab there should be a update button however it's nowhere to be seen.

I can only format which doesn't seem to wipe the Firmware at all unfortunately.

Here's a picture: Click image for larger version.

And when I attempt to repair using Songbird I go to the following screen: Click image for larger version.

And then I keep the + volume button held in as I connect it to my PC and immediately see the "FW UPGRADING" message on my devices screen. Songbird crashes once this happens. I've tried letting the device sit for 3-4 hours on the "FW UPGRADING" message without any luck.

    Hi Mongbat,

Thanks for the pics, hmm maybe you have an old version of Songbird on your PC? Because it looks different on my Songird and on the pics on Philips website... Could you maybe try uninstalling and installing the latest version of Songbird on your PC? http://www.p4c.philips.com/cgi-bin/c...w_partial.html

I'll paste below how to update it using Songbird:
    - once it's connected and recognised by SB, click on your device in SB
    - then you shoudl see the Tools:

    - next:

And then just follow the instructions on the screen.

I really hope this works! Please let me knwo of the outcome, fingers crossed!

    With best wishes,
    WW
